Craig and the team at Burkholder did an excellent job building a beautiful patio in my backyard. They listened closely to what I was trying to accomplish, offered their expert opinions and created an amazing outdoor space for us. I would highly recommend the Burkholder team if you are looking to build a new patio.

It would be an understatement to express my profound satisfaction with the exceptional work completed by Burkholder at my new residence. Their professionalism and creativity have left an indelible impression. The entire team, comprising Brent, Mark, Tim, Jeff, and the invaluable support staff including Carol and Lisa, demonstrated remarkable expertise and collaboration in every facet of the project.
Having had the pleasure of working with Burkholder for nearly two decades in my previous home, I can confidently assert that their capabilities have only enhanced over time. I wholeheartedly recommend their services to anyone contemplating landscaping, irrigation, or hardscape projects. Burkholder excels in all areas, ensuring that every client’s expectations are met.

Front walkway and retaining wall:
Barry, Deb, Tim and Brent led an effort to recreate our front steps and walkway. This involved building retaining walls to level the area in front of our home. Their teams cleared away the existing vegetation, replaced / extended conduits for wiring and pipes for down spouts. The retaining wall work involved establishing two level areas with beautiful stone steps connecting the two spaces. The steps and walkways have lights for both safety and aesthetics. The final touch was the installation of beautiful and deer resistant plants. The new plants and some of the existing trees are now featured with up lights. The entire team was a pleasure to work with. They were great about communicating what would be done and when. The project managers and team leads consistently checked in at key points throughout the project. I am looking forward to our next project - backyard patio and walkway!

Backyard Patio & Walkway:
As with the front yard hardscape, the work required building retaining walls – much smaller though. The bluestone was beautifully laid out. The patio work included tying the downspout into a very long drain line and a swale was created to divert the water coming down the back hillside. As with the front landscaping, lighting was installed to feature plants and highlight the path and steps. Early on, Barry had suggested having only the base layer of our new black top driveway installed while we continued to work through a variety of projects. You can see in the one picture, this meant their hardscape team had to create a tapered edge on the walkway to accommodate the future final layer of black top.

Belgian Block and Rip Rap to Protect Driveway Edges:
Our black top driveway is steep and was starting to crack at the edges due to erosion. The Burkholder team put together a plan to protect the edges from erosion using two techniques. The edges were shored up by installing rip rap. The end of the driveway that transitions to a shared gravel drive was protected and beautified by installing Belgian block. We are extremely happy with the look and performance! (The photos do not do it justice. The Belgian block is a very pretty look.)

Landscape Support and Maintenance:
Our backyard has a steep hillside. There have been a lot of changes to the number of trees requiring the installation of new plants and encouraging the continued growth of the existing plants. The team has done a tremendous job installing a variety of shrubs. They have also helped control the intense intrusion of weeds due to the soil disruption. Their team also goes above and beyond when they see something. Early July, there was a microburst in our area. A small pine tree was pushed out of the ground when large tree’s limbs fell nearby. The crew reset the tree when they were in the area taking care of the weeds.

Pollinator Garden & Arbor:
The landscape team worked with the hardscape group to create a bluestone foundation for an arbor. Barry had suggested working with Walpole for their low-to-no maintenance structures. Tim and Brent’s team did a beautiful job creating a level space to install the arbor. The landscape team then installed the pollinator garden. We later added a glider and garden seats at tables.

Plant Health Care:
The team led by Starker has done an incredible job of not only maintaining the health of plants but also our ability to enjoy the yard through pest control. The dogwoods continue to improve each year – more blooms and berries! His team also does structural pruning, which is so important for the health of the trees and their appearance.

This project was originally a 2 part project. The complete design plan was provided by Ryan M. from Burkholder. The first part involved a rebuild of an old deck. This portion encountered numerous obstacles created by a disreputable contractor who had nothing to do with Burkholder Brothers. When Burkholder came to do their portion of the design, they literally reaffirmed my faith in contract work. This work included a firepit with surrounding pavers, steps going up to the back yard and a retaining wall for our pool. Burkholder came every morning and worked from 7 am until 5 pm! Each day started with Tim, the project supervisor, who reviewed the work to be done with the team. Tim often showed up later in the day to see how things were going and helped out as needed. Our workers were polite, friendly and kept a very clean work space at the end of each day. They took pride in their work and this showed as the yard was transformed into a beautiful oasis! The entire project literally took less than 2 weeks once the work began. The original design needed to be altered due to approval issues from the Township. Ryan M. was very supportive throughout this process, changing the design until all parties were on board. I am a huge gardener, spending a great deal of my Summer in the yard. My surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. I would hire this company again in a heartbeat. The fire pit is terrific addition, enjoyed by family and friends alike!

Honestly Burkholder Brothers is well deserving of a ten star rating. Over the last few years my husband and I had gleaned just enough information (from social media garden influencers) to be dangerous. This year it became obvious that we needed local experts to diagnose the various problems and then create a strategy to return our trees and plants back to a healthy thriving state. From introduction to completion Burkholder and Starker specifically, was professional and patient as he meticulously accessed each and every concern we had. No problem was too difficult, and no question was too foolish. Within just a few days he had created an extensive phased plan to be implemented according to when and what was best for the trees, shrubs, flowers, and garden. His work ethic, attention to detail, and passion as an arborist are rare indeed. In case you are wondering the cost was incredibly fair. We can not recommend this company enough.

Burkholder Brothers just completed a pretty large project for me which included a bluestone patio with natural stone walls, an outdoor kitchen with a pergola, adding steps and screening my deck, landscaping, lighting and irrigation. Until they started the installation, I did not realize the complexity of the project and all of the moving parts needing coordination. During design, Craig was great at listening to what I was looking for and providing ideas, as well as, being knowledgeable about required township permits and my HOA requirements. Once we got approval and they started, I witnessed multiple specialized and knowledgeable Burkholder crews working like a well-oiled machine. I was amazed at the professionalism, responsiveness and high quality of work from everyone. If I sent an email with a question, I got an answer often the same day or someone would call or stop by in person. The guys were always very respectful and helpful. I would like to make a special shout out to the patio crew - they were awesome even in the 93 degree heat! Everyone was great to work with and I just love how everything turned out! I highly recommend them.

Burkholder has been handling our commercial grounds and snow needs for years, and they'll have our business for years to come. We have been customers of the Burkholder organization for many years and selected them for our backyard project based on their reliability and skill from years of yard beautification and lawn care. We began by commissioning a plan for a multi-phase project which our designer, Craig, completed quickly while incorporating our feedback. This included great visualizations to better understand what it would look like. Our first phase was replacement of an aging poolhouse pavilion. Craig supervised its selection and installation, coordinating the pavilion supplier and quickly addressing the very minor punchlist items. On the whole, we never had to worry and are thrilled to have a safe, beautiful structure anchoring our new backyard!

I've had Burkholder Brothers do multiple projects at my house- from major hardscape and landscape jobs to refurbishing plants and gardens. They have helped with hardscape, landscape, lighting, planting, erosion mitigation, plant health, and deer/pest issues. I can't speak highly enough about the team at Burkholder. On the front end they take time to listen and walk through project design. When it comes time to do the job they are on time, prompt, and do exceptional work. They treat me the same on smaller projects as they do the larger jobs. Great people to work from start to finish.

I worked with Burkholder Brothers on several projects when I owned a single-family home in the last 15 years. They installed and supported a Sprinkler System through their Sir Sprinkler division, build an EP Henry retaining wall which perfectly matched our existing pool deck, and re-landscaped our pool area, as well as completing some smaller planting projects. As a result of the great job they did on these projects, I recommended them to install an Irrigation System at my mother's condominium where they did an excellent job. In 2025, Burkholder won a competitive bidding process to install several landscape projects at the HOA where I now live. Burkholder did a terrific job turning around the RFP quickly and with attention to detail. They assigned a hard-working crew which did an amazing and professional installation job of multiple trees, shrubs and perennials under the direction of a professional, knowledgeable, courteous, thorough and on-time project manager, Jeff. We will definitely keep using this outstanding business to help us with our landscape projects.

Burkholder Brothers have done a lot of work at my house: a sprinkler system, landscape lighting, and a brick walkway. Very pleased with all of it. For the past 4 years, Mitch and his team have treated my lawn. They have done a fantastic job; the lawn looks great. Very professional and detailed oriented.
