We have been in business for over 20 years, completed more than 1,000 permitted kitchen and bathroom projects, and regularly work with multiple inspection agencies. Unfortunately, our experience with A1 Electric as an underwriter and inspection provider was not a positive one.

The main issue for us was communication. Reaching someone by phone was difficult, calls were often not returned, and coordinating inspections became challenging. Our office made multiple attempts to contact them throughout the process, which created unnecessary delays and added stress to the project timeline

The inspection process itself also contributed to delays. Inspections required coordination between A1 Electric and the City of Philadelphia, and managing scheduling between both parties proved difficult. As a result, our project timeline was extended more than expected.

Pricing was also significantly higher than what we typically experience with other inspection agencies. In our experience, inspection fees are usually in the $150 to $175 range, while A1 Electric charged approximately $350 to $375 per inspection. Based on the service and overall experience, we did not feel the additional cost provided added value to the project.

Another point that made us uncomfortable was the payment process. We were asked to send payment in advance via Zelle before inspections were performed, which is not something we typically encounter with other inspection agencies. In addition, we did not receive a receipt or documentation for our records at the time payments were made, which made internal tracking more difficult.
We also felt uncomfortable with the structure where the same company provides inspection or underwriting services while also operating as an electrical contractor. In our opinion, this can create the appearance of a conflict when inspections involve work performed by other contractors.

Overall, our experience included difficult communication, scheduling challenges, higher than expected costs, an unusual payment process, and delays that impacted the project. Based on this experience, we would choose to work with a different inspection agency in the future.

Update: After posting this review, we received a letter from an attorney representing A1 Electric requesting that the review be removed and referencing possible legal action. The review above reflects our honest experience and opinion as a customer and business owner. We are not removing the review, but are updating it for transparency so others understand the full context of our experience.

I am a realtor licensed in NJ and recently licensed in PA. I needed an electrical cert for a property that is set to close next week. I reached out to A1 and my call was returned in minutes. Tom was great to deal with. His price was very reasonable, I was able to send him the money through Venmo, and the next day I had the cert in my email. I can't suggest him highly enough.

We had A-1 Electric install a whole house generator. Tom and Tommy provided excellent customer service throughout all stages of our project. Their workmanship and attention to detail was outstanding. Highly recommend!

We had an excellent experience with A-1 Electric. Thomas was able to schedule our inspection quickly, arrived promptly, and was professional throughout the entire process. His pricing was fair, the payment options were convenient, and he provided the passing certificate without delay.
Everything was handled efficiently and with great communication. I highly recommend A-1 Electric and will absolutely be using Thomas again in the future!
