I had an appointment for a thermostat install today, I ended up waiting for 5 hour (I hour past the window for arrival).
When the tech arrived and asked what I needed done, I showed him the smart thermostat I needed to have installed. He informed he was not comfortable, since he had not installed a lot of these(ecobee3) in the past and asked if the company could reschedule the install for a later date.
(NOTE): Im not upset with the tech; he did his job, was an honest broker, did not try to shoot from the cuff on the install and provide sub par service; this should not reflect poorly on him AT ALL.
I’m disappointed with the local Petro office leadership for not setting their service tech up for success. This purpose of this appointment was clearly expressed to the office that a thermostat install was needed. In all honesty, I’m considering canceling my service contact and switching to Santoro.

THE ABSOLUTE WORST!! I spent over $10K on a new heating system that screwed up my water pressure, then they made me wait month to finally install a pressure relief valve that they tried to charge me $450 for. I didn't have this problem before they but the furnace in. NOW, icing on the cake, they just overfilled my oil tank, leaking gallons of oil into my basement and can't seem to get anyone over here to take care of it. DO NOT USE PETRO. I should have switched a long time ago.

My Family has been with Petro Home Service Consistently since 1964! They are Fantastic We even have the same oil burner thats 20 yrs oil and runs like a dream becuase my mother who passed at 100 yrs old paid for Petro Service Program which gives you a yearly cleaning and burner inspection and repair - you may have to pay for parts I dont know But they come out 24/7 and deliver as well any time. The customer service ladies are fabulous! I just cant say enough about this company. I of course have stayed with Petro after inheriting moms house. They also offer plumbing washer dryer repair.. I am NOT A paid reviewer! Hand on the BIBLE! I just happened to see the reviews and i was shocked!? This company is OUTSTANDING. I took care of my mother for the past 10 years so I dealt with Petro myself so i have first hand knowledge. They also give you a Guaranteed RATE on the oil if you sign an agreement to stay with them for 1 Year and this is a great deal because they see what the best oil price is they can get oil that year and then offer you a ceiling price if u commit to 1 year! THIS WILL BE THE BEST PrICE for OIL ANyWHERE. they also have a budget plan if you have good credit is a factor I BELIEVE .. not sure what the qualification is for that because my parents didnt even use credit cards and had NO Credit rating! They paid CASH for everything ..cars, their HOUSE.. but had no credit rating - and PETRO gave them the budget plan.. and then u might have a balance at the end.. I paid extra all year to avoid that.. They are THE BEST.

petro does not care about military and government workers. they are rude and i will be looking for another propane company. Not all of them are on the same page with accounts which is very annoying when you call and try and pay a bill. and they say the amount you owe is 3 times the amount that they said a 1 week. petro is not a good company.
I have had petro since November and I signed with them at 1.77 per gallon I get my bills and the price just keeps going up. And they have delivery fees built in to the pricing when it was suppose to be free. Even says it's free when you call and get the automated service. Beth from Preto also has a rude attitude when you call and talk to her and ask about the billing. She was the one who said delivery fees is included. -
Petro was used by my home inspector as a subcontractor to inspect my heating system. He did discover a few issues and told me the price to have them all repaired would be approximately $1,000. Hearing that, I went ahead and bought the house. After closing, I called Petro to do the work. The cost had now jumped up to almost $4,000 although I explained the situation. The inspector also missed the broken oil tank guage which resulted in me paying for oil not even there. The entire company is an abomination and should be avoided.

Their customer service was consistently disappointing (my accounts were not separated even tho I had separate service agreements and they never bothered to tell me that the second year was included). They installed a new tank and had to come out several times to get it right. Finally their website is very poorly designed and not user friendly. I left for another company.

I would not even give them one star but I had to. The service is terrible. I paid them for a service contract and I have called three times for service and never a return call. I had a small oil leak in my basement and they charged me $ 300.oo for some Speedy Dry that I had to clean up and then they called the DEM and reported an oil spill. Once I signed with them they did a Hard Credit Check even though I was paying them in advance via Credit Card with a $ 30 K limit.. I had a Credit Score of 230 which was lowered due to the Hard Credit Inquiry that they did, for what reason, I have no idea!

Frequently receive incorrect information from the customer service representatives, (calls are recorded and verified incorrect information was shared), and the company and supervisor failed to honor information provided despite their mistake. Very little flexibility in payment planning and options. Poor customer service on top of sky-rocketing oil prices, not great, do not recommend.

We just switched to Petro today. All the preliminary set up calls were great. Super friendly, organized and knowledgeable staff. The Tech that came out today to hook up our new tank was 100% awesome! So glad we switched to Petro!

Furnace was down but luckily I had a Petro service contract.
The technician (Travis) arrived as scheduled and was able to quickly determine the root cause of the problem.
In addition he discovered an incorrect thermostat setting which were causing the furnace to short cycle, and not run at maximum efficiency or comfort.
I'm very satisfied with the peace of mind and quality my Petro service contract has provided. -
Hello,
I can't find an email to send this to so I'm posting this here.
Yesterday your service man came to correct a heating zone that was not working. When he got here we realized there were several not working.
I have no complaints about him or his work. However, for the first zone that wasn't working he tended to, he said he turned it on manually at first. I think he may have forgotten to turn off the manual switch?
This morning I awoke to the first floor of the house quite warm. Despite my lowering the heat last night before he left... Zone 2.. the first one he worked on... did not turn off. My first floor is at 80 and I can't get it to stop.
Here's my complaint.
When I called to inform service of this... the earliest appointment for someone to come and fix this was 8 hours long. Now every time I call you, you inform me that we've been your customers since 1985 and that we have a premier service contract. Cool. Except all that means nothing when requesting service.
If you check your records you see I've called you at least once in most of the preceeding years and each time... no matter what time of day of my call... the wait for service is 5-8 hours. Seriously? Don't you folks think this is an issue for you AND your customers?
I've reminded your customer. service desk that we are elderly... doesn't matter. I reminded the person today... and may I say the people who handle your phones are excellent.... but all they could do was call dispatch and were told.. that they would try to get her earlier but no promises. My house is burning oil all day... it's 80 degrees ... and... nothing. This suggests to me that Dispatch could care less how many years we've been a customer... and how much we pay each year for a service contract.
Your folks on the phone and your technicians have always been wonderful. Clearly, the problem lies with upper management.
Now the kicker here is my calls in the past were in the winter and somehow I could understand the difficulty of getting to people with problems when it's cold out.
Two things here.
1. Even in the dead of winter.. the fact of our long association with you, our expensive service contract... and the fact that we're both in our 70's meant nothing to your dispatch/management.
2. October 3rd is NOT the dead of winter... yet still the 5-8 hour wait???
To me.. it sure seems like you don't have any real policy in case of emergencies... especially for the elderly... AND... you're always short technicians. Why????
I'm so tired of complaining to your folks on the phones. It's not them yet they're the front line. When I've even asked to speak to a manager... I'm consistently told there's no one else who can speak to me. Really??????? And you all don't have a problem with this?
I expect to hear back from management concerning this email.

Petro was a nightmare to work with from the get go with poor communication skills and shady practices. I needed to ask them to correct the contract multiple times before they would and they left out material information around the credit services (it's a card not an extension of credit!) and inspection requirements. I will not be doing business with them again.

The price of oil is way too high! I paid over $4 a gallon when other companies were charging $2.50 per gallon. Now I realize that service deserves a higher price, but this difference is way too much. Other customers, who are people that I know, are also unsatisfied with such a huge discrepancy. I needed a new thermostat and the price was $175 for the same one that was at home depot for $30. My suggestion is this: if you want a full service company check out the price of oil with all of them on the same day to make a fair comparison and then make an informed decision as to which one you want to use to provide oil service. I am locked into a contract for 7 more months, but I will be comparison shopping after that.

Petro is a great business to deal with...why? They show up on designated time, work is professional and reasonable in price. I love the fact that when you call you actually speak to a real live person. I have no complaints regarding Petro whatsoever, great company.

This review is not towards this location but to the company. I forgot to write a review on this, last year when I had my oil tank go bad, the “repair guy” was visibly rude and upset when we didn’t want to spend $5K to $6K on their tank and fitment and instead look for the alternative. Do they think money grows on my basement or something? Price wise they will try to lock you in a contract for the same price, which isn’t that bad but horrible experience.

NO stars!! Worst oil company in RI!!! If you see them?? RUN !!!! They over charge. They are not reliable. They are opportunistic they prey on their customers. They put in oil when they want, no matter if your tank is full. They charged me once for 27 gallons and of the cost of putting in the oil was a lot more than what the oil cost. After I wouldn’t sign another 2 year contract they began to charge me full price for oil then they signed me up for another 2 year agreement and then 6 days later they charged me for an early termination fee of 400 dollars for a contract that I never agreed to!!! Incredible. Please do your self a favor and find a real reputable company.

Extremely unreliable. Don't believe any appointment made. I've had to hound them constantly to keep appointments made months in advance. The most current issue is I'm now down to 1/8 of a tank of oil and have called constantly since the 3/8 mark for a delivery. So far, they've been a no- show two days in a row. Switching service is my next order of business.

Unreliable service. Service calls have long lead times and spotty performance. I have had 3 interactions 1) a heater repair which was very good 2) a routine AC service in which a tech error shutdown the system and the return visit to correct the error took 7 days and 3) a long scheduled service call for a preseason heater inspection was cancelled by Petro the morning of the call and the next available time was 3 months outs. Their claim of On Call Access to service 24/7 - only means they will answer the phone.

I like the fact that the first year of one the coldest winter I experienced Petro made deliveries on time. However, on the renewal the prices were higher than the prices started at. The last person who serviced the hot force air unit came unprepared and use one of my filters as replacement of the older ones.

Not happy with their lack of keeping oil service contract fees reasonable nor the pricing of non- COD oil. They love to quote these huge numbers then offer a big discount off that number to make you feel so special. I think they grew too large and too quickly. They have been lacking adequately trained staff for years and the pricing per gallon charge on oil is way over what other full service co's offer to their loyal customers. Not a fan. Past 3 years my annual service appt was blown off then when I called to inquire it was re-scheduled. "ER calls..." was the excuse every time. One appt scheduled for 3-7pm - the tech wanted to show up after 10pm. Not cool.

Each time I contact Petro I always experience outstanding service. From scheduling a service call, to questions regarding billing, to fuel deliveries, and service visits I have never dealt with an employee who didn’t exceed my expectations. Each interaction —and I have had a number of them —is always pleasant, courteous and efficient. My issues or questions are always resolved expeditiously. I’m happy to be a Petro customer and I highly recommend this company.
