Great to work with, very organized and professional.
I think a true test of a newly built home is how does it stand up to the test of time. We have been in our Schell home for 9 years and you would think it is still a new home. No nail pops or cracks on the walls. All of the HVAC is humming without any maintenance issues. The tile and wood flooring throughout the house has stood up well even with 5 grandkids and 2 dogs doing their best to rough it up when they frequently visit. The outside siding and trim needed your basic painting which is expected near the coastline but no issues with the products used for trim. We have built 7 new homes during our lifetime and not one of them held up like our Schell home. I would strongly recommend Schell Brothers and if by chance I do build another home, it would be a Schell home.
As of this writing, the last posted review is 2 years old. So… let me update you on a near million dollar Schell Brothers built home that we built. The model selection and design is a beast of its own where they literally nickel and dime you for everything in a home. Now then, after the build and closing: the house is a Million Dollar Turd!!! After living in the house for a month, what we have discovered is extremely crooked walls, a tile shower that has more caulking in it than the exterior. It was built incorrectly as a well built tile shower should have ZERO caulk in it. Here’s a few other issues we’ve seen: crooked molding, terrible miter joints, mixed match molding cuts, a crooked front door that whistles badly when there’s any wind, light switches that don’t do anything, bent HVAC return vent coverings, a screened in porch that has two sides with a 1/4 inch gap that allows bugs through, a sidewalk poured below grade that pools water after a small rain. We paid extra for painted walls and were told that they would use satin paint, they used flat. The paint was cut in and trimmed so poorly… Stevie Wonder could have done a better job. Windows lacking interior trim, flooring that looks suspiciously like it was not installed properly… I could go on and on with the LOW QUALITY BUILD that Schell Brothers created for us. But I think I’ll just do a 5-10 video and post it on YouTube. Bottom line, STEER CLEAR of these folks. They may have built a good product years ago but now I believe that it’s all about the MONEY!! 💰 I hate this house. Jim Walter’s built a better house!
Review of Our Schell Brothers Home – One Year Later Our home is now a little over a year old, and unfortunately, the experience with Schell Brothers has been deeply disappointing. While the buying and selection process was passable—it wasn’t great, but it was relatively smooth—that may have been the only positive part of the entire experience. Once we moved in, the poor quality of construction quickly became apparent. Here are just a few of the issues we’ve encountered: Extremely uneven floors – A ball can roll from one side of the house to the other without any push. Substandard trim work – Sloppy cuts and finishes throughout the home. Poor carpet installation – Pieces were cut poorly and laid improperly, and we were told these aren’t covered under warranty. Damaged deck boards – Also not covered under warranty. Faulty HVAC system – We've had six service visits and it still doesn’t work correctly. Painting – Large sections were left unpainted or done so poorly it would’ve been better if they hadn’t painted at all. Bowed trim – Trim pulls away from the drywall in multiple areas. Unresolved warranty items – Some issues have been pending for almost a year with no resolution. Dealing with the warranty team has been equally frustrating. Responses are often filled with excuses or temporary fixes rather than actual solutions. Schell Brothers markets themselves as a premium homebuilder, but the only “premium” aspect we’ve experienced is the price. The quality and service have fallen far short of expectations. Bottom line: I would strongly advise others to avoid building with Schell Brothers unless you're prepared to deal with serious quality issues and poor customer service.
