Emerald Yards is great! And I want to recommend to you Scott & Craig! This team truly takes pride in their work and it shows! I also appreciate the effort they go to educate us in terms of their care and lawn management processes.
Their quality of work is second to none. I highly recommend you contacting Emerald Yards at your earliest opportunity!! -
I engaged Emerald Yards to raise an existing bed in the back yard, remove some trees and bushes, and create two new beds in the front and a small one in the back. Also had them clear a former dog-run for future placement of a raised-bed vegetable/herb garden.
All of the crew were asked to keep the back gate closed and latched, as my dog needs to go out on occasion to do her business. I found the gate propped open with a stone and when I went to close it, the latch and bottom hinge were bent and almost completely pulled out from the wood due to slamming in the wind. Pointed this out and was told it would be repaired. It’s still not fixed.
What should have been a one-week (at most) project turned into more than three weeks; with over one week of no contact. I was told on a Friday that they would return Saturday (the next day) and didn’t hear anything for 10 days. This was after a round of texts discussing the importance of communication.
The shrubs and trees that were removed were supposed to have their roots either removed or drilled and filled with root killer. Neither was done. Just flush-cut with the grade.
According to the invoice, I paid for a “Lawn Levelling” but just got a top-dressing. In a prior discussion, I was told the levelling would be a sand/compost mix (also described on their website). There was never any sand used.
Also discussed (but not in any documentation) was a small 8-10 inch strip between the home and back sidewalk that was supposed to be cleaned of rocks and debris. I was told this would be taken care of. Still looks the same.
Overall, the outcome is just barely satisfactory. Not stellar. I was hoping for more attention to detail and a better customer experience, as I prefer to do business with local entities who tend to do a better job than the national franchises.
EDIT-Response from customer-
We appreciate the offer to come back, but we'll take it from here. -
**EDIT**: I lowered my previous rating of 5 stars to 3 stars due to less than satisfactory results from Scott & Emerald Yards LLC! Lawncare services provided were not as expected or described in the contract--the team only spent 5-10 minutes at each monthly service--how can satisfactory service be accomplished in that short timeframe?! Whenever I questioned the quality of work provided, I was met with disapproval & scorn for questioning the team & was accused of giving the owner, Scott, & his crew "a hard time"!
Also, the areas where our lawn was dug up for irrigation installation by Emerald Yards LLC, was destroyed--grass never grew back, just dirt remains. When we requested re-seeding for those areas, we were told we would have to pay for the additional re-seeding even though they caused the damage!
The only reason we didn't give a lower rating is because Scott said he would refund the remaining mths of our contract as he no longer wanted to service our lawn due to me constantly voicing our disappointment & dissatisfaction with his team & service! -
They did my yard it was done subpar text Scott owner pics of spots that were missed during moving he told me that my next cut would be free. When I schedule another mow which would've been the free comp mow I was called morning of appointment and told that they wouldn't be serving my yard anymore longer due to me being to picky. I explained that that was fine but the owed me a free mow due to the prior situation I was then told that they had to reach out to Scott owner who was on vacation in Florida to verify what i had told them. So once they called me back the told me that Scott told him to tell me that once he returned to San Antonio he would send me a check for my money I paid for subpar job. I didn't trust that and filed a dispute with my bank who gave me my money back after I explained why I was disputing the payment only to have Scott owner dispute with my bank stating job was done and I didn't cancel so they reversed the credit. A low life he never honored what he said which is why I filed a dispute because I didn't trust him. So now I'm going to take him to small claims court with documents proving what he told me about refunding me. Scott and Emerald Yards his company is not to be trusted I've tried to speak with him once I found out about him challenging my dispute but he won't return my calls or answer my calls. He's a poor excuse for a man and a even worse business man and owner!

I have a large yard that needed a lot of work and maintenance that is not possible for me to maintain without having professional equipment or several people working on it. I met with Scott last spring and I was pleased with his knowledge of grass and what he could do to fix my problem areas and decided to purchase one of his plans. Him and his crew come every month and would have an automated text message to say when he would be there, which was nice. He also leaves a note of all that was done that day and what is recommended. I am pleased with the progress my yard has made and will continue to use him next season. My only advice would be to ask upfront what all extras he thinks you may need to pay for to fix problem areas on top of the plan. But that is probably more my fault for not knowing to ask, as this is my first home. Overall I am pleased with his service.

Thank you Emerald Yard's, for installing my irrigation system and taking care of killing the weeds in my yard.
How did I come about this company, I've went on Next Door App and ask for recommendations on who can suggest a company I can reach out to install an irrigation system at my home.
I had a total of 5 mens that came out to my home to provide me an estimated. The best part is yet to come, a gentleman by the name of Scott, he show professionalism, he knew the type of grass I had in my lawn and he was very knowledgeable of his work, I was sold, when he spoke on what he was going to do and he provided me with the expectation of the service he will be installing and on how I can controlled the irrigation system by the touch of my cell phone. Then he pulls out his phone to show me his yard fron his camera, within using the app, I saw how was able to control his irrigation system, just by setting the timer to turn/off on the system, that was a wow moment for me.
If you decide to go with Eremald Yards you will not be disappointed,
Scott also had all of the paperwork I needed to submit to my HOA and within 10days, I was approved to have Eremald Yards to come out to installed the irrigation system at home.
I'm a happy satisfied customer.
Thank you so much Scott, for taking the time to come back out to my home to explain on how to operate the irrigation system, because I was at work when the job was completed.
Emeralds Yard's is number #1 in my book to reach out to take care of lawn, do not go anywhere else's, I promise you, thier work is far exceptional 👍 -
I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Trusting Emerald Yards with our yard has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Scott leaves the yard beautiful every 2 weeks. We had a major issue with weeds that he has been tackling for us. There have been major improvements over the course of the past few months. Emerald Yards is professional and they deliver as promised. Scott is knowledgeable and very serious about keeping his customers satisfied and happy. You will have no regrets choosing Emerald Yards to beautify and take care of your lawn.

If I could give Scott and Emerald Yards more than 5 stars I would in a heartbeat. I had a previous lawn company that is well known but I was not seeing any improvement with you yard after a year. I saw a sign for Emerald Yards on a residents lawn in my community and decided to give them a call. Scott was very professional and knowledgeable from the first time we speak and I was felt more comfortable giving them a try once we met up at our appointment. Today is his first time at my home and I have been more than pleased on his work and the commitment he has towards beautifying my lawn. I highly recommend him and Emerald Yards to anyone looking for a local company that takes care of their customer and not just a well known company that takes your money and not offer what Emerald Yards brings to the table.

I can’t say enough about this company. Scott and his team are wonderful. Scott came by before they started to go over the job and then again while the guys were working. They were here for a few hours and we now have an awesome Wi-Fi controlled irrigation system for a phenomenal price. We have more services scheduled with Scott and I can’t wait to see my yard get back to beautiful. We highly recommend Emerald Yards!!

Thank you again Scott and Crew! We have used Emerald Yards for 2 years now and plan to continue in the future. When we moved into this house the front and back yards were a disaster. They fixed our back yard first. Today they tilled our front lawn removing crabgrass, dethatched, aerated, laid compost and overseeded with burmuda. They also dethatched back yard. Looks 100% better. We should see grass in 7-10 days and no more weeds!. The crew arrived at agreed upon time and worked steadily for 3 hours. They were very professional and friendly. Thank you Scott Kaiser, Clifton and Janet Chestnut

I contacted Emerald Yards after purchasing a new home in San Antonio. The previous owners did not maintain the property very well. So I called Emerald Yards, Craig came to my home the next day after I requested a quote, walked the property and gave me a great deal. They cleaned up my property, cut the grass, hauled off a lot of trash for me and fogged the yard for me making my wedding day even more perfect. I highly recommend! They will be fair and they have great communication. Every time they are on their way I get a text with their real time locations so I know where they are and how close. I will continue to use them moving forward. Thanks Craig and Scott!

We had dirt added to the backyard around the house and rock to the front for aesthetic reasons. Looks great!!

Emerald Yards has been mowing and treating our lawn for about a year. They have been professional, timely and provided quality work. I’ve been so impressed by their level of communication. Thank you for such great service.
-
Scott’s team upgraded my entire sprinkler system. They ensured all was working well, and I now have entire coverage for my yard. They also took the time to show me how to use the new system and walked me through how to use on the app. I am very pleased and highly recommend them.

I was to get a soil test as part of my service. That was 10 months ago. I just got it. It would have been nice to see what the yard needed LONG ago. Second: no written report. Third: he reported there was NO nitrogen, NO phosphorus and NO potassium in the soil. Not a TRACE? Needless to say, it is impossible for NONE of these minerals to be present. The fact a blade of grass is cut by the mower and falls into the soil bed is evidence of the impossibility of NONE of these minerals being present.
Then there is the fertilizer and weed killers. The weed control was broadcast by hand and the fertilizer was spread using, alternatively, a hand held Whirlybird or by dipping a hand into the Whirlybird and tossing it around. I actually took videos of this activity. The weed killer was a contact style according to the guys who came by, but such a treatment is rather worthless unless coupled with a pre-emergent regimen.
And the timing was bad. A first fertilization should be laid down around mid-April to early May. They did mine in early March.
He said he needed to de-thatch the yard before it really started growing. That is also incorrect as it should be done before the grass starts greening up and actively growing.
When I brought these issues up to him he said, in so many words, that I was constantly complaining and bothering him. Not true. I rarely talked to him.
From MY experience with Emerald, I would not recommend them. But, don't take my word for it. Try this: Check fertilizer application timing & spreading methodology, read about weed killers & pre-emergents, and study de-thatching, particularly from places like the County Agricultural Agent and Texas A&M (Agri-Life Extension Service). Take what you have learned THEN talk to Emerald yards and compare what Emerald says to what you have learned. Only then should you make your decision. By the way, I would apply this advice to any company to which you would entrust your lawn.
You may ask why I gave them two stars and not one. I did so because they showed up when they said they would and they applied product (even though it might not have been at the right time or by using the right method).
By the way, if past actions hold true to form, I expect to be blasted by the owner of Emerald Yards. That's fine as that is his right. I can only report the date he put down fertilizer, how he put it down, when (and how) he delivered the soil report, etc. Whatever he says, he can't change those facts. And whatever he says will not change this other fact: I won't use him again. And before posting this I cancelled the service and then waited for an answer for a few days. He never replied. Maybe he will now:-) -
Emerald Yards installed a new sprinkler system to my front and back yards. Crew was very professional, on time, and my new system is working great with better coverage than my old system!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars, Scott and his team have revitalized my yard and I am honestly shocked at how good it looks now!
I have a giant yard, and it went from 80% weeds and dead grass to 100% WOW!! At first I was really skeptical on what results to expect, I was expecting a-lot more weeds in my yard but month after month, my yard has been nearly weed free because of them. I know trying to kill weeds is something that you have to battle monthly, but this is where his team excels.
Scott (The owner) is a great guy, he puts a-lot of trust in his team and I can see why, they are knowledgeable and hard working. They take the time to do the job right. There's not a single part of my yard they don't go over. He and his team know exactly what to do when it comes to weeds, grass, fertilizing, de-thatching, aerating. They do it all, and they do it really well.
If you want your yard to look amazing, Emerald Yards is the one you want to call. -
Called Emerald Yards on Friday afternoon and they were able to get me in for Saturday morning service. They showed up, analyzed the yard for a cut, trim, and edge. They gave me a fair price. The two man team was fast and professional. I asked about some lawn repairs that are needed and they made some recommendations. Will definitely be using the service again. Highly recommend

Scott is very knowledgeable and was quick to answer any questions. Very happy with the work that Oscar and his crew did. They took their time and did good work. Very pleased with the leveling job. They use a sand and compost mixed so although it won’t be very flat the first time leveling it’ll help tremendously with this terrible new build soil. Their scheduling is a little wonky but the service and communication makes up for it.

Had to fire my previous yard services provider and after talking to several companies, Scott's responsiveness and original quote is what made me try his team at Emerald Yards.
Do not regret it at all, even though his price was not the cheapest, the quality of work his crew does is 10x better than my previous provider...like the automated (texts & emails) confirming your service day(s) and when his crew is on the way.
Also had Scott's team do all the trees and shrubs in my front yard after going out for bid. Again, he wasn't the least costly, but I figured if his tree/shrub services was like their yard service - a little more $$$ was worth it. Very happy with their tree service as well.
Highly recommend Scott's team at Emerald Yards for your lawn and tree-care services. -
I’ve used Emerald Yards for a year and a Half. The quality of work was on several occasions, sub par. They installed 30 landscaping lights for me that looked great when they functioned. Over the course of 18 months I’ve counted at least 6 occasions when some of those lights stopped working. Come to find out they were cheap quality and only came with a one year warranty, compared to other companies that offer 10-15 year warranties. So close to $2500 later, I now have only 26 working lights, not to mention that the transformer box their electrician installed wasn’t designed to handle the electrical load. Now it trips my fuses all the time. I’m not even going to get into how many times they came in late or skipped appointments all together or forgot to do things they were supposed to on their routine visits. Honestly, they have a great Web site and they’re great at billing. That’s about it. Now I have to either replace those lights with something more durable or keep paying out of pocket to replace them. They got me good on the labor. I’m not even going to get into weed control or trimming bushes or branches….if you want my honest opinion try someone else.
