We contacted Fineline for a briefing for building Zen Garden in our backyard. Before the meeting, we were required to fill in a LONG survey, sent our house site plan, take photos of the front/side/back yard and create a folder with photos of what we like/dislike in terms of gardening and plants. That was a lot to do before even meeting the owner. We did exactly what they asked and told them on the initial phone call that our budget is $20K-30K.

During the initial phone conversation, the lady tried to persuade us to just have a zoom meeting instead of face to face due to COVID-19. I told her that we are spending quite a sum of money and prefer to meet the designer and owner face to face and we expect her to be able to walk our yard to do the design. So, we scheduled an appointment. A couple of hours before the meeting, I received a voicemail asking if we want to change the meeting to zoom meeting due to the rain. I called them back and insisted a F2DF meeting. To be honest, it was just a little rain, it was NOT even a storm or anything but we feel like this company do not want to actually come out and is not sincere on getting the job.

Eventually, the owner, Melda, arrived. We had an hour of talk and asked all the questions. From our conversation, we found out Melda does not have any design education or background, we hired designers to work for her but she is the ONLY one to meet with clients. It is NOT her own design. She then outsource the job to some workers to install the landscaping. She is like a coordinator but obviously earned huge mark up for each job. Since we were told that we need to pay $2K for her design regardless of whether we will hire them for installation or not, we wanted to get a clear idea what we can get in our budget of $20K-30K. Melda said she will send us some sample of previous designs and work in our budget range so we can get a sense of what we will get. Ended up, all the samples we received was for over $60K. We emailed Melda and told her we want to see samples within our budget, she replied and said they did NOT do any project in $20K-30K and so don't have samples in this price range. This is just a shocker to us!!! We feel like she should have told us in the initial phone conversation to save our time. The whole experience is very unprofessional and terrible!!

Melda and her team have been incredible to work with thus far. From the multiple times they've helped guide me through our project, they've always been incredibly welcoming, professional, and diligent. It’s rare to find a firm that “gets it” so early in the process, but with good instincts, amazing taste and meaningful experience it comes naturally for Melda. What we thought could be a cumbersome experience has ended up being a real pleasure and we are overjoyed with the results of our plan! A visual feast for our eyes and those of our guests, we are going to enjoy her work for years to come!

Melda and her team designed and remodeled our backyard with a deck, pergola, saltwater pool/hot tub and landscaping. Less than a year later the couping is disintegrating (she blamed on our current pool guy) I told her about this and showed her and she said it was because our pool guy wasn’t maintaining the pool correctly. The disintegration started when her pool guy was maintaining the pool (when he did show up) all the plants she put in have died, she used a very oily stain on the decking that was tracked into pool and house for a couple of months. The lumber used for the decking was not what we wanted (she said I ok’d it which I never did). The polygal over the pergola her team installed leaks. After several texts and phone calls Melda had someone else to blame for all the issues and would not take care of any of them. The grass she installed was on uneven ground that her team did not level before putting in the grass. DO YOUR HOMEWORK on what you are having done. Melda was quick to add $$$ with unnecessary items.

This is an update on my earlier review….
Although initially the team was quite pleasant to work with, it has now become impossible to deal with them.
They seem to fight over every post installation issue that has occurred since, and it is really frustrating and emotionally draining to get them to admit and fix the problems.
From the concrete that was poured, to the plants, to the fountain, to the stains and destruction of grass on the sides and front of the house, it has been draining to keep going back and forth and insisting that they remedy the situation.
As I write this review, the water feature they had installed, which was already leaking water and would not fill up and needed to be fixed, fell apart when their landscaper lifted the small bowl and yanked on the hose. The team is now ignoring and deflecting the blame.
Now they are implying that we would have to pay for it to be replaced/repaired. With them it's all about money…and a fight over every issue.
That is very sad indeed!
I hope they will do the right thing and own up, and fix what they well know happened due to their own team's negligence.

Melda and the FineLines Design team were top-notch throughout our whole landscaping project. From the digital design concept to the realization of our design, they worked closely with us throughout. Melda continually followed up to ensure the project progressed smoothly and that we were happy with the result. We had a long vacation during the project, and Melda and team worked very hard to ensure the project was completed when we returned – allowing us to enjoy our new yard! In addition, the team worked with us to replace any plants that did not survive the brutal Texas summer. We had FineLine refurbish our front yard in November and we couldn’t be happier. They changed/added plants and created a new bed and dry creek. They did a great job of melding the new design to existing garden. The lead architect Melda was super easy to work with. She listened to what I wanted and More than delivered! They’ve been super helpful since then too. We needed to cover and uncover the new plants for the sub freezing temperatures and they came through! I highly recommend their services.

I had the same experience as many other clients. Melda’s design was beautiful & her execution was poor. The pool plaster was installed so poorly & instantly failed. Of course she blamed it on our inability to properly care for our pool. Now, we’re having to replaster the entire pool. Riverbend built our pool and Riverbend has maintained our pool. This is not an issue with Riverbend.

FineLines Design Studio designed my kitchen, and they did an absolutely amazing job! They completely understood my style and created a space that’s both beautiful and functional. The team was professional, on time, and so easy to work with. Every detail was perfect — I still can’t believe how stunning my kitchen looks now! This company needs to teach their drivers how to not drive so wrecklessly. This morning, one of their trucks (plates RLY8632) pulled out in front of me and I had to slam on my breaks. I flashed my lights at the driver and he sped off. About 5 minutes later he came out of nowhere again weaving through traffic, cutting me off again much closer than before! I slammed on my breaks again and flashed my lights at him but the driver didn't seem to care about the safety of others around him as he continued weaving through the lanes.

horrible follow up. after months of communication with no follow up, i gave up. they only deal with super high income households is what it seems like

Pablo and his crew are always ready to do anything we ask of him. We hired him for gardening help initially which he still does for us. He uses hand shears and is truly a Gardner.
Some of the other things he has done for me:

He has moved my household from my old house to my new house.
I am a contractor and he has demoed areas for remodeling.
He has pitched in to help with framing and other construction projects.
He is smart and knows how to get things done.

Pablo and his brother ripped out all existing landscaping and redesigned our entire front and backyard. It was such a great transformation, many neighbors asked me for his info after seeing the results. Very happy with their work and fair pricing. Definitely recommend them.

Excellent Work! Removed a tree for us last year and we had them back to trim our trees this year. Both experiences were great and they throughly cleaned up afterwards. Pricing is competitive and we will definitely use them again.
