Home Services reviews in Denton, Texas

If I could rate them a 0 I would. I have been trying to get the projects I hired Terry for, over a year and a half ago, finished. He is incredibly unprofessional and not responsive at all. He has one excuse after another. I normally would not post such a scathing review but after giving him nearly $10k of my very hard earned and saved money, I don't have a single project at 100% completion. Terry and his crew were to install new landscaping in the front of my house, replace my fence and build a new deck, but nothing at all has been completed. I am beside myself since it took so long time as a single mom to save up the money to have this work done on my home and he has ultimately stolen from me. He went completely M.I.A for nearly a year and it wasn't until I contacted the BBB before he would return my calls or messages. He promised everything would be completed by May 17th and it is now one week from that date and not a single bit of additional work has been done. I recommend looking at the BBB site for the full reviews on Landscape Living Environments. I trusted this man, as the owner of Landscape Living Environments and took his word (as well as a contract) stating all of the work would be completed in a timely fashion and to satisfaction, and the only thing he did was leave me with unfinished projects including a fence that was never replaced (that I'm now having to find additional funds to replace) and nearly $10k of my money. Please do not put your money or trust into this business.

Landscape Living made my mud pit front yard into a paradise. I liked making a plan with Terry and seeing on paper the layout and design. Terry knows how to use rocks, mulch, grass, shrubs, and border to enhance the look. The transition was amazing. Terry and crew were professional and good to work with throughout the project and I’m happy with the results.

Terry and his crew did a complete replacement of our landscaping. We wanted something very different from what we had, but we weren't really sure what. Terry worked with us to come up with a design that is very creative, but also very beautiful, functional, and easy to maintain. In short, it was exactly what we wanted and needed. He and his crew was always very responsive, flexible, and professional. Terry was extremely good at figuring out how to do what we wanted, but to do it in an economical and practical way. We are extremely pleased with the results and highly recommend this company for your next landscaping project, whatever it might be.

After our initial contractor didn't stick within our budget and kept telling us we were all good, I had to find another. Finding Terry was great! Terry not only has done great work for us, the entire backyard and will soon do our outdoor kitchen, he conducted himself professionally. Everything was communicated, all the Is and It's dotted and crossed. Literally, any changes to the contract were specified, priced and communicated ahead of time. I will be using Landscape Living exclusively for outdoor projects from here on out and I recommend you do the same, you wont be disappointed!

Job Details
Note: I did increase the scope but it was done before work started (I.e. added shed & pad, increase patio size).
1. Replace and extend retaining wall, level yard, add drainage
2. Replace and extend Patio
3. 12x12 attached shed and pad
4. Board on Board Fence
Payment schedule 70% by start
10% 1 week after start
30% after completion and acceptance.
Total time from signing to firing was 6 Months not 8 weeks. There was a week for winter ice days as well as many rainy days that also contributed to the delay. This could have been avoided had the original timeframe been met.
High-level issues with Living Landscape:
1.Too few of employees to run the # of projects they have
2.Too many projects running all at once and not in order.
3.Runs out of materials often
4.Does not work a whole week or allow workers to work full days. Does not dedicate enough time to any one project.
5. Mismanagement of funds received for materials and has to do other jobs to make up for it and buy remaining materials.
6.Communicates up to a point and then stops when things start going south
7.Cannot keep employees
8.Quality of work was far from meeting expectation
9.Doesn’t do what he says and adds contract items like “As Needed” as a way to not do the work.
Specific issues that led to contract termination (and loss of money on my part)
1. 6 months and only 2 items fully complete (patio and retaining wall)
2. Patio was not built right. It was too low causing tripping and had to be redone
3. Salted Finish requested for the patio was not well done.
4. Miscommunication on height of shed (would have been ok if the fence was built first). Main ISSUE was when it was brought down and discovered they used the wrong nails in the framing.
Shed was never finished after 6 months (siding and door not done) and isn't water tight.
5. To level the yard I was told 150 yards of dirt was brought in but later told 80 more yards were needed that could bring it up to 200 yards. The discrepancy in amounts he said was brought in while asking for more money for dirt, caused me pause and I decided to not give more money.
6. Sprinkler System was broken. When they tried to fix it, they made it worse due to unskilled employees. (I did not pay extra).
7. 4.5 months in, I was asked to pay for fence wood out of what I owed because he didn’t have enough money. (I did pay it, but that helped him and cost me in the long run)
He argued that I told him the wrong length of the fence. He did not measure it in the quote and was the only quote I received that didn’t measure it.
8. Fence was never completed. Top trim left off, gates had NO outward handles, and bottom was flush with the ground, not just above.
9. Fence posts not all fully buried the required depth and they were out of line from each other. Corners are not square and the fence isn’t straight. Boards are already splitting and need to be replaced.
10. Sod was not put in
11. Broke Flower Bed and only fixed part of it, leaving the other part broken. Did not fix what was under warranty.
12. Not enough and not large enough weep holes were placed in the retaining walls
13. Failed to mark boundaries before digging the footers causing them to be over the property lines. Resulted in the Inspector requesting a survey. He said he would pay for it. I ended up having to pick it up and pay for it after getting letters from the survey company that I had a balance.
13. Added a drain through the wall to connect drains to. Was told drains on 2 sides of the yard were not part of the contract and he was just doing it for me. This was in the contract. He also told the Inspector that it would be there. No drainage ran around the yard, just a pipe in place to allow it to exit the wall?? So I had enough and fired them
Someone that isn’t savvy and attentive to detail will be setting themselves up for issues. 6 months since signing and 50k+ the project is still not done…..these are my reasons for why I do not recommend Landscape Living and why I ended the relationship.

Retaining wall cracked. wont warranty -
Had an total rework of our landscape plants including install of new planting bed rock border, install of new trees, repair of waterfall fountain including new liner and plumbing, re-install of low voltage spot lighting. We're on a Ranchette and need low maintenance so Terry suggested we stick with what works best in Texas. He designed a beautiful flowing shrubbery plan with color, texture, and hardiness for our area, including native boulders, Muhly grass, Chinese fringe flower, Vitex, Texas Redbud, Mugo pine and at our request Japanese Black Pine. Also installed a large Live Oak and October Glory Red Maple and a Mexican Plum.
We paid to have plan drawn out to scale which he credits from the price of the job if you hire him. We both love the outcome of his design. Hopefully pictures will do the finished product justice.
Terry was always responsive to texts and happy to give advise. His ideas are great, as he has extensive experience in Dallas. His crew is great also. Son Trevor a delightful young man along with Justin and his irrigation and rock guys always willing to jump in to any job and get it done quickly and correct. Punch list was finished up quickly and job site picked up, swept and tidy.
I believe he gives one year warranty on plants so now its up to us to grow it up right. -
I am so pleased with my newly landscaped front flower beds and borders that Terry and his crew created. It turned out great! My neighbors agree. From start to finish I was impressed by Terry's commitment to make sure I was happy with the job. He was very responsive and a pleasure to deal with. When it is time to start the backyard project I'll definitely be giving Landscape Living another call!

Terry helped us recreate our landscaping today and everything looks amazing. We appreciate his recommendations on plants that were best suited for our area. He followed through with each step of the process perfectly. We would use him and his business again!

Landscape Living did an outstanding job making my dreams come true. Terry designed an awesome layout for my front yard. My family and I absolutely love it. Terry also installed extra grass and dirt to raise grade against our foundation. We have received so many compliments from our neighbors in our community. Terry is such a pleasure to work with. His crew did an amazing job. They were absolutely nice and professional. I absolutely recommend that people hire this company for landscaping projects!

Terry and crew did a spectacular job with our yard. Although it may of taken a while, it was highly worth it.
Terry was extremely easy to reach and communicate with. This is what sets him above the rest in my opinion. It is nice to know that he is willing to talk even if there are schedule mishaps.
Our dog kennel slab, which was probably the toughest to complete for him and his crew, cost him a little bit extra than what he had originally quoted, but Terry didn't charge us any extra. He stuck to the original quote he gave us and so my wife & I only had to pay Terry to what was agreed to. This was really nice and definitely did not make us feel like we were having the rug pulled out from under us. Thank you, Terry especially for this.
Our yard, that was once a wasteland, turned into something that my wife and I can work with and we can fully say we are pleased with the work that he and his crew put into it. I would highly recommend Landscape Living Environments to anyone who is on the fence of choosing a landscaper.
