This review is on behalf of my father, Terry Taylor, in Houston, who does not have a Google account but was extremely satisfied with this company's services and wanted to make sure his experience was made public.

When the last few years of drought conditions in Houston created some major issues with our home, I visited with neighbors in our area who I knew had remodeling and general home maintenance projects done on their homes recently. Contender Construction got consistent reviews for quality of work and value for money spent.

Contender Construction owner, Stephen Box, met with my wife and me and spent almost two hours listening and asking questions about our goals which included replacing damaged cedar siding and repainting our unattached garage, removing and replacing a sidewalk from the street to the front of the house and removing and replacing the concrete patio and attached sidewalks at the rear of the house. We also chose to replace the front door unit of our home. Over the next couple of days, Stephen sent options to consider for each part of the project. At the end, he sent us a proposal that included all the elements we chose with relevant pictures and prices that included parts and labor.

Contender’s specialty sub-contractors on our renovation were all complete professionals. Every phase of the project was done well using top quality materials. The front door unit was installed and sealed carefully, and both sides of the door got multiple coats of paint.

As with most projects on sixty-year-old dwellings, modifications to original bids must be expected because of unanticipated challenges that appear. Stephen wisely warned us of this prior to making the original bid. Our modifications were minor and very reasonably priced. It is worth noting that the front-door unit we ordered ended up costing less than originally quoted, and Stephen credited us for the difference on our final bill! We wouldn’t have known about it otherwise. Personal integrity counts.

Stephen Box and his team are true professionals. They were able to get to my house quickly and replace/caulk/fix what needed to be fixed on my inspection report for a great cost. Huge thanks to Stephen for being so upfront and accomodating! Definitely will use them again when needed!

Contender replaced our roof and fixed a water damage hole in our garage. They did a fantastic and quick job, great to work with, and very kind!

We had a bathroom remodeled. Mr. Box gave excellent service. He notified us when to expect subcontractors, and he came frequently to inspect progress. His subcontractors did a fine job and were personable and responsive to our requests.

Stephen did an exceptional job walking us through the options for a roof and steps for an insurance claim. He came highly recommended from our realtor and I can see why! The project was high quality and done quickly.

Our roof started leaking when we were hit with Beryl. Stephen was really prompt in responding to our request and giving us a reasonable and competitive estimate. He started ahead of schedule and completed the job. He was really prompt and professional in answering our questions and concerns. We were very happy with him, his professionalism and the quality of the work.

I contacted Stephen on a referral from a family member and he was out right away to inspect my old roof and give an estimate for replacement. He gave a competitive bid against the other companies. But he also went above and beyond to provide some temp repairs, storms were forecast, while we considered all the bids and made our decision. We chose to work with Contender. They did a quality and timely job and clean up was great.
Stephen also suggested I tell my insurance agent about the new roof. By providing a copy of Contender’s project scope and paid invoice, the homeowner's carrier provided a substantial discount on my premium!

My roof looks great and it was done in one day. The roof was very old and had many layers that had to be removed. It was a lot of work. The staff was excellent. They worked very hard and diligently. Stephen was great as he provided no pressure bids and quality work. He provide a bid to replace my roof which was comparable to other quotes and stuck with it. He also provided bids for other items to bring exhaust pipes up to code and gutter replacement, basically a one stop shop. The work was excellent. Stephen stopped by often to check on the crew and after the work was completed to make sure that I was satisfied. I would recommend giving Stephen a call for any home repair or improvements.

Stephen Box and his team did a fantastic job replacing our roof for us. The job required some additional coordination with other contractors, and Stephen provided us with great counsel to ensure the project went to plan.
