Buchanans is an incredible Nursery and has incredibly helpful staff!! I have no experience with plants or gardening and Shai was a life saver! She was so patient and walked us through multiple varieties of plants, compost, showed us examples and walked us through how to take care of our plants! I cannot recommend this place enough and we will be lifetime customers!

If there's a place I would very much recommend for any plant owners it would be this nursery. What impresses me the most is the staff's expertise with the plants the nursery has to offer. Martin's knowledge and information about plant care, plant environment, and plant behavior was so in depth that it has made my experiencing taking care of plants substantially easier.

It really reflects on the nursery when the staff loves and cares for its stock!

I had many questions when I went to Buchanans Native Plants today, all of which were answered by the time I left. At least three people Including Angel, Jose, and amazing, awesome Natasha helped me make wise plant and material decisions.

I was so grateful Jose helped me when I was checking out. He was concerned about overloading my car and suggested I come back for more even though I spent less money. This was not my experience at another nursery.

While I was there, I found two beautiful Wakaebisu azaleas which I have not seen in a nursery for years. Before I bought them,
Natasha made sure that I had the right place for those beautiful shrubs.

I love the diversity of plants you can get here. Most of the plants are in good health which is more than can be said for some garden centers I could mention. Last time I was here Martin gave me some great advice for handling leaf footed bugs that has worked wonderfully! Definitely worth making your way over if you're a plant lover

Buchanan's is my go-to garden store in Houston. Not only does it feature a broad range of beautiful, well-maintained plants; it also has a phenomenal staff who are extremely knowledgeable and genuinely interested in helping you care for your plants. As a relatively new owner of tropicals, Martin and his team have been instrumental in helping me getting my plants to thrive. Highly recommend a chat with them; you'll learn something while meeting lovely people!

Buchanan’s gets almost all of our gardening business. I love the big selection and the plant tags are a huge help in my search for the right plants for the different light levels in my yard. I try to stick with natives and plants that feed someone: us, birds, animals, pollinators.

The best part is the amazing staff! So incredibly helpful! Martin is like talking to a cheeky AI: he’s got the answers and he’s hilarious to boot😆

I likely won’t be returning to Buchanan’s. The moment closing time hit, I felt rushed and pressured to leave immediately when 6 O’clock hit. An employee initially told me to grab my final item, but before I could finish, I was approached again, making the experience feel unwelcoming—especially for a first-time visit. On top of that, their prices are noticeably higher compared to other quality nurseries in Houston.

Very impressed with their selection and quality for their indoor plants. All the staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Very thankful for having them as a resource! Will definitely be back to find more additions to my indoor garden!

Buchanan's is definitely my favorite nursery. Last couple of times I went I've gotten a ton of help from Ezekiel, he's clearly very passionate about knowledge about plants and he helped guide me through cat safe plants as well as taught me about native plants! Also had a great conversation with Miguel. The employees definitely make this nursery worth going to!

Buchanan's is fantastic if you're looking for a plant place in the loop. Over the last several years I've:
-Bought dozens of plants, pots, fertilizers, soil and accessories from them.
-Brought multiple plants that I needed help diagnosing in to the Plant Bar and have received extremely helpful free advice.
-Bothered staff with tons of questions about my carnivores, vines, trees, and native plants, many of which were unrelated to those I've bought at Buchanan's.

Staff are always super helpful and if they can't answer your question, they'll find someone who can. That someone is often Martin, who has offered his expertise to me a ton of times and always has advice that is well-informed and clearly explained/tied to how it relates to the plants natural environment (which I find super helpful). I've also had very good experiences with the pre-packaged soils they create and offer for orchids, seedlings, etc. Don't sleep on the tropicoir.
They also offer a ton of events to the local area, and have a free membership deal thing which is always a plus.

I freakin love Buchanan's. I've shopped here for years. Don't get me wrong, some of the plants come a price more than what one would typically like to pay, however ALL the plants are of good quality. Refer to that old adage, "you get what you pay for".
It's worth it! They have great deals too so save up and buy that something special that catches your eye.
The other thing about Buchanan's, that dare I say exceeds the delightful wander of being lost amongst the plants, is the employees! Screw Mr Googs, go to Buchanan's if you need to ask a plant question. Martin in the indoor plant area made my jaw drop. ...definitely someone you want next to you at plant trivia night! . ..like, what kind of water does that plant thrive on?? I would say the wet kind, but no, dear review reader, Martin would tell you that this particularly sensitive plant should have filtered water because tap contains too much fluoride.

And I had a wonderful exchange with Shay and Ellis over a eucalyptus tree. They told me everything I needed to know from taking it home, repotting it, bathing it, putting it to bed, etc. By the end of the conversation I felt I made new friends and wanted to have tea or a beer with them under the tree.
It's a great place yall, with great people and an awesome variety of healthy plants. You leave knowing what you purchased and how to care for it.

The highest quality trees and plants you’ll find inside the loop. Playground sand and black star gravel in small bags can be found here. Highly knowledgeable staff that are super helpful. Only downside is the seed selection could use some local selections.

This place is very nice and I have been coming here for years, but there's 2 main things they have to figure out. The employees they have are awful. Any time I've needed help here it takes forever to even find an employee to help you, and then once you find them they always have the worst attitudes and seem to be really unhappy or socially awkward. And then the other issue is this place just continues to become more and more expensive, I just went to buy a vine that should of been $20 max based on prior years purchasing, only to be met with a $70 price tag. This isn't sustainable. Bad employees mixed with outrageous prices. How nice the place is will only carry yall so far.

Really terrific nursery with an excellent selection of beautiful plants and good prices. The staff is what really sets Buchanan’s apart however. Everyone at this business is so knowledgeable, helpful, and cheerful, and their customer service is amazing. It’s getting harder and harder to find places today that really feel like they value your business, and refreshing to find businesses that really get it right. Thank you for everything!

I am a frequent visitor at Buchanans. Today I was looking to get ideas for some trees for my yard. Fortunately, I met Kenya. She is so knowledgeable and helpful. Honestly, I felt that I was taking too much of Kenya’s time - but she didn’t show it. Buchanans didn’t have a tree that I wanted to consider and Kenya offered suggestions of where I might go to find it! She is impressive! Congratulations!

Buchanan’s is hands down one of the best nurseries in Houston! The selection of plants is incredible—everything from tropicals and fruit trees to native Texas plants and seasonal flowers. You can tell the plants are well cared for, and the quality is top-notch.

The staff is knowledgeable and always willing to help with recommendations or care tips. The layout of the nursery is beautiful and easy to navigate, making it such a peaceful place to shop. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just starting out, Buchanan’s

Ellis and Stacie were knowledgeable employees, and helped me find the lavender I was looking for. They also offered tips to achieve strong growth, thank yall.

By far the friendliest and most dedicated nursery in Houston. Large selection, plants are well marked. Signs show characteristics (conditions required) as well as growing dimensions.

Appreciate its section and categorization, including native plants and mosquitoes-repelling ones.

Quite a sizeable place walked around and asked lots of questions to short-list some options for our project. Knowledgeable staffs, helpful with plant selection and recommendations.

Yes, as many reviews point out, prices may not be the lowest. But factoring in the care these plants are given, I think it is a good value. Roots matter, healthy plants have better chance to grow beautifully.

Poor service, I have been coming to this place for a while now. Unfortunately I missed my birthday month but it has not even been a full month after. The young lady at the counter did not want to honor it. I called spoke with someone and she said some honor some don’t. I said ok. Went home thought about it called other plant stores, Blessings , Tall Plants none in stock. Decided to go by Home Depot and low n behold they had the same exact plant BIGGER for lesser price. I am done with Buchanan’s atp. I returned the plant and will no longer be a customer.

So glad to have found this place. Did not find the exact size pot we were looking for, but they had a ton of choices in a wide range of prices. We loved how organized the sections were and almost everything was labeled. It is a definite go to for us to get some of the plants we love without outrageous prices. Workers were helpful when needed and we will definitely be back.
