Landscaping reviews in Houston, Texas

Great place for fresh plants! Simple.. The best!!

I've shopped at several locations of Houston Garden Center, this just being the most recent one. I have uniformly found their personnel to be helpful, knowledgeable, and professional and their plants to be in excellent condition. We just bought a house in Cypress, and the landscaping was too sad to greet Christmas. I didn't have time to do much, but was able to find great snapdragons that would see me through to spring in excellent shape at HGC for a fraction of the cost of sad worn plants I'd seen at the big box stores. Although it was Christmas and they were very busy, the staff was polite and helpful. I was sorry to read that others were less complimentary about their experience. Between Covid and the holidays, we are all a little fractious. As I begin to update the landscaping around our home, I'll definitely depend on the expertise and products of HGC.

I bought a Christmas tree from this location on November 28th. By December 8th, the lower 3rd of the tree was bare. I've been buying live trees for over a decade, and have been in the same house for a few years now. This is the first time I've had this issue, and can't seem to get Houston Garden Center to help. This is the first time that I've done any business with Houston Garden Center. If this tree worked out for me, it's likely they would have gained a new lifelong customer. This will likely be the last time I do any business at any of their locations.

Frequent often and typically have great service. The last 2 visits were horrible. In April, I needed flowers for a birthday celebration and arrived right before closing. Young employees watched me park and walk up, then told me they were closed and I had to leave. Missed out on a big sale. Left disappointed and went somewhere else the next day. Yesterday my mother and I (nor any other customer) was offered any assistance as we walked around for almost an hour. When approaching the register, there were 2 cashiers. I asked if we could check out with the cashier who was available and she said she wasnt open and to go to the other cashier (who was checking out a customer). When it was our turn my mother asked for a price check on a plant (neither cashier knew the answer). They then come up with a price of $16.99, the plant looked half dead. My mom said it was overpriced and left it. The available cashier was rude to her counterpart and belittled her as she trained her on the spot. Another customer appeared with the same amount of purchases and she left us with the inexperienced cashier, stating the other customer had a big purchase, so she would assist him. As we left, I realized my babys cup was misplaced, so I went back to search for it. Both cashiers were on their phones and neither looked up to address me or offer to assist. I searched the grounds, but did not find the cup. As I walked off, one mumbled under her breath and they both laughed. The only employee that did any work and actually offered assistance was Thomas. It seems like younger employees have no customer service skills or manners and do not want to do any work. I will not be returning to this location.

I went to this location last week and I remembered why I stopped going there. Almost every employee there is miserable, rude! And this is at all houston garden centers, this company only has rude miserable people working there.

Visited today. Found some great shrubs for my grandmother's front yard at a very reasonable price. They have a 70% off sale going on right now. Definitely worth a visit. Going back tomorrow!

Sign says $25 for 10pots..so we grab 10..then cashier said it was 4.99 each, so we grab a different one and said pot must be certain color..I told her why no sign was posted so that we won't be wasting time picking up those pots and told her that I need to talk to a manager but she don't want to say anything..when we left she then post the price instead of texting or using her cellphone at the corner to hide the store camera. Guys pls do your job simply...even posting signs.m

I went to the store on 02/12/2026 all the employees were I guess doing different task and didn't speak English, so I asked one person if the manager spoke English and she didn't which is a little difficult if you’re managing a whole store no employee no manager to speak English is crazy.
The employee and the manager were just talking the whole time I was at the West Little York location I was there for about 30 mins, and the manager never approached me literally was sitting talking to another lady that worked there. So, I left.
I always come to this location and there's another manager that is lovely and was very helpful when I came back today, pretty sure her name is Claudia. Even with helping her staff she still managed to make sure her customers were taken care of.
Gustina is so welcoming she seemed new she really didn’t know where exactly everything was, but she helped me to the right direction If I’m not mistaken, I think she was the only employee that knows English. Thank you for your hospitality!
Great experience today! -
At first I was in love with this place when we moved here three years ago. The prices in comparison to Home Depot or Lowes are always more competitive, but they offer no refunds or exchanges. It is this policy that is losing me as a customer. We have spent at least $200 just in the last two months for various plants, mostly the color special with a couple more expensive plants thrown in on each trip. One of the more expensive plants which we decided to splurge and buy was a Gardenia. I had one before I moved, and have waited three long years since to buy another one so we can enjoy that sweet fragrance again. It was the healthiest looking one I could find, and about 30" tall so a pretty old plant, but here we are less than two weeks later and it's almost dead. What frustrates me is how fast their plants die when you bring them home. My husband is in landscaping, and think they are probably watering twice a day in full sun (with the Gardenia and most plants there) and over-feeding the plants to the point that when you bring them home and try to care for them normally the plants get put under too much stress. All I did was move the plant one foot under a patio cover still facing full sun for two days, and fed it with granulated feed and not liquid feed, and it started to get sick immediately. Between the lack of sun, all the rain, and the tiny pot it was squeezed into it has been taking a few days to dry out. I tried transplanting it into a bigger pot in hopes that if it was root rot it would hopefully still survive, but it is going to die. It has gotten worse over the last three days since transplanting it. I might as well just throw $35+ taxes down into the toilet and wave goodbye, since that was pretty much my experience with this plant. None of my plants have died from root rot over this rain either...just this and a couple of the colors.

Always a fun trip here. There is a big selection and lots of color to suit your needs. You kind of need to know what you are looking for so pre plan as they do not have staff to answer questions. I found that out from many visits. Their staff waters and stocks but does not provide guidance. Know what will work best in direct, partial sun or shade and winter tolerance. I’ve made a few mistakes in the past with poor choices and had to purchase alternatives.
The selection is good and the volume is good. They run a summertime 50% off sale for the best deals. -
