Constraction reviews in Smithfield, Virginia

Had shutters repaired by Babbs and work was done with a Spirit of Excellence. The workers are kind and trustworthy. After work was completed area was cleaned and all items placed back. I would definitely recommend BABB'S for any job and no job is to small or to large.

Excellent Businessman and person! Cant stress this enough. John and his crew were outstanding. He came in and added a butlers pantry for us as well as reworked some of our existing kitchen and added a coffee bar. His quality and price cant be matched. If you are looking for any work to be done, please give him a call, you wont be disappointed!

I don't have the before pics but here's what it looks like afterwards.

Built by Babb handled the complete restoration of a 100 year old home for us. It was a complex and lengthy project - perhaps the biggest project the company has handled. The house was deteriorated, required a complete re-wire and re-plumb, plaster wall and masonry repairs, bath and kitchen renovation, floor repair and refinishing, a new roof, landscaping work and paint throughout. The outcome was outstanding. Subcontractors were skilled and efficient, particularly the carpenters, who restored termite damage and replicated olden style interior trim. John Babb was available, honest, extremely knowledgeable about all facets of construction and design, and a perfectionist as to quality. An absolute pleasure to undertake a project with this man and his team. Our neighbors and family have since hired the company for work on nearby houses. I highly recommend this unique and professional company!

Built by Babb did an excellent job renovating a 60-year-old rental house we own that had fallen into disrepair. John was very communicative and kept me posted at every step along the way. The final result was a beautiful, total makeover that the tenants love!

Met John and his team when our SBA loan required a licensed contractor to work our project. To say he saved us is an understatement. He converted a Title Loans facility into a beautiful bakery and made my wife’s dream a reality! Great work, timely and on budget! Thanks Built by Babb for being amazing human beings and supporting this small business! Smallcakes Smithfield will partner with this world class team anytime!

Built by Babb did excellent work installing new drywall, garage door, opener, torsion springs and metal wrapping to upgrade from ceiling tiles and an old wooden door with extension springs. Babb was very considerate of my needs and schedule, remaining as patient and professional as one could expect while I was preparing despite him and his crew being ready. Excellent quality and craftsmanship at a much lower price than expected. Garage is still a mess as we're still getting everything in it's place but we're extremely pleased with the outcome! Highly recommended to anyone needing just about any home improvement/repair needs! Thanks Babb!

I hired Built by Babb expecting professional work, but the results were very poor. Adhesive was left all over my new floors, and when I asked about it, I was told “it will come off eventually.” There were gaps, chipped boards, sloppy trim cuts, and visible damage around cabinets and corners (see photos). When I pointed out the cabinet damage, Mr. Babb (the owner) just said, “well we ain’t perfect,” and moved on without addressing it.

Some items were fixed, but once he received payment, he considered everything finished. One of his workers told me they provide a 1-year warranty, and before payment, Mr. Babb said he offers a warranty with no deadline and would fix anything that went wrong. After I trusted him and paid in full, he completely reversed course and said the job was “done” and that nothing was under warranty because they didn’t purchase the flooring themselves.

I have now added another picture that shows more floor separation continuing to occur, further proving the poor quality of the installation.

Very unprofessional experience from start to finish. I would not recommend this company.

John Babb and his guys built the most beautiful porch and hot tub deck for us. I cannot say enough about how amazing they all were! The entire process was just what you would want for any construction or home improvement. From start to finish John was very responsive and always kept us informed about the job. The guys on the crew were great and very skilled. The finished project was so much more than what we had hoped for! We love it so much! We highly recommend!

I really appreciate Mr. Babb and his team being willing to do some roof repairs to my house. As a first time home owner who bought a house that needed a little work, it has been a little overwhelming trying to find some good contractors. I have been trying to get a roofer for 5 months who was willing to make repairs. What I found is that many roofers were not interested in coming out unless they got to do a whole new roof. I really appreciate Mr. Babb getting his team to make these repairs and extend the life of the roof I currently have. His roofers were very friendly to speak to too, and they cleaned up all the debris from the yard, which I appreciate very much. I think the work was high quality at a fair price. Thank you guys!

I recently hired Built by Babb to repair the ceiling in my bedroom after part of it collapsed due to a roof leak, and the experience exceeded all my expectations. They removed the damaged plaster and lathing, installed new drywall, painted, and even installed a ceiling fan. The entire team worked with remarkable skill, and the finished product is perfect!
Johnny Babb, the owner, closely supervised the project, ensuring everything went smoothly. The subcontractors were well-coordinated. Throughout the process, communication was excellent, and I was always kept in the loop. They met the promised timeline and worked with my insurance company to provide all the necessary documentation.
I truly felt like a partner in the process, and the project was completed within my budget. I highly recommend Built by Babb for their exceptional workmanship, excellent communication, and commitment to their clients.

We have used Built By Babb for two jobs. First was a small job, a master bath remodel, after receiving a local recommendation for Built By Babb. John and his crew showed up on time, did the work as promised and stuck to the original estimate on price.

About a year later the second job was a substantial house renovation on a new to us home which they just completed. Some job highlights included a new roof, new tile, removal of old tile flooring and replacement with hardwood floors and major master bath remodeling. We also had some electrical work, drywall and paint work done and new carpet installation.

I would encourage anyone getting ready to do renovation/remodeling to go to his shop in Smithfield and see the kind of work he can do.

Babb has a solid crew of people working for him and with him on these jobs. Babb is an excellent communicator and listener and is a phone call away. You wont have to look for him.

My wife was the primary communicator on both jobs and Babb listened to her carefully and communicated with her directly. Babb lets you finish sentences and ideas and does not talk over you and is not dismissive. John wants to understand what you are trying to accomplish and will share his ideas with you based on his experience. The custom work he can do is pretty incredible and he genuinely seems interested in doing an outstanding job.

A ton of work went into this renovation and of course there were some minor hiccups along the way. Babb and his team took it all in stride and the job was completed on time and pretty close to the original estimate except where we, the owners, modified the original plans or additional unexpected repairs had to be made.

Highly recommend Built By Babb.

I can't say enough good things about Johnny and the Built By Babb Team. There are plenty of people out there who say they want to take a look at a job, but unfortunately there are very few that show up and take action. Johnny was a breath of fresh air. We had a couple of projects that we needed to get knocked out including pulling up old basement flooring and installing new, as well as addressing a leaking shower door in our master bath. I was recommended Johnny who I had never met or used prior. He came in and followed up on every single thing he said and that we discussed. Once he started, he stayed on my projects vs dragging things out. He communicated every morning to let me know who was coming and what time, and he followed up every evening to make sure I was happy and didn't have any request or changes. Above all he took pride in the work he and his crew did and multiple times pointed out things that he wanted to redo or touch up that I hadn't even noticed. Genuine guy who is down to earth and takes care of his people. Above all he was fair in his work and his pricing. Couldn't be more grateful to build a new connection to have moving forward with projects that come up.

We hired Built By Babb to completely renovate our kitchen inside and out. The job required all aspects of construction expertise from demolition to finish carpentry (interior and exterior walls, drywall, plumbing, paint, cabinets, tile, electrical, etc). Mr. Babb and his expert crew handled all the details flawlessly. We got an initial quote and a 10% overage margin to cover more expensive choices on our part. The job came in right where he said it would. The workers were great to have around and frankly, we miss seeing them. If I had it to do all over I wouldn't change a thing. My sincere thanks to the team for their professionalism and patience. Great job!!!
