Rich designed and landscaped both my front and back yards in 2019. I am SO happy with it! My goals were to have beautiful landscaping, low water usage, and low maintenance for me in terms of labor. The final product achieves all of these things. Rich really takes ownership of his work and is very detail oriented. I highly recommend his services.

The thoughtfulness and creative vision of the English Landscaper’s work is unparalleled in Spokane. Richard worked with my land to design a space that uses less water, naturally integrates flow into the landscape and is visually impactful. His design has created less weeding work for me, is seasonally visually active, and he rarely uses power tools, so the work felt very unobtrusive. I would recommend this business to anyone looking for a landscaper that knows regional plants, has an aesthetic eye for color, shape and size of plants and works with your space not against it to create a space you can live and relax in. Phenomenal business.

Richard is an artist. We had no concrete idea what we wanted, but we did not want lawn anymore. He listened to our vague ideas of what we might want, then spent a long time walking the property, looking and thinking. We gave him free rein on design and plants. We loved the plantings he came up with, and the flowering plants bloom at different times so there is always color. He also used plants for color and texture, and his curved mounded sedges are so nice and green even in the winter snow! He transformed our boring front and back lawn into interesting landscapes that attract so many birds and butterflies and bees, and require little attention from us other than admiration.

We had an awful experience with Richard, who came to provide an estimate on our garden. He insulted our house and garden, and told my wife that he had refused to work on gardens much nicer than ours. Minutes after he left, she burst into tears.

I'm not sure whether he's a talented landscaper, but he's certainly not a very nice person.

We can not say enough about how much we have enjoyed working with Richard. He was mindful of our wants/needs, timely, and has made a beautiful peaceful environment for us to enjoy. We also greatly appreciate his willingness to check in on how things are going, adjust things if there are any issues, and how he is always willing and available to answer our questions. We cannot recommend him enough.

I wanted a cottage garden to replace my boring front yard. Richard nailed it! His vision transformed it into an eye pleasing array of reds, pinks, purples and blues. Chives in the front yard? Why not.
Swallowtail butterflies, bees and numerous hummingbirds are a constant delight to watch.

When we first met Richard Lambert he was using the name The English Gardner. After having lived in England and loving English Gardens, we thought we would give him a call, but probably would not be able to afford his prices. It turns out that Richard has been great and served our wishes and needs better than we predicted, and we have continued to use him for more that a dozen years. We can totally recommend him, but might wish we kept it a secret. Richard is great and totally responsive.

Immediately after moving into our new home, we hired Richard to remove a large area of lawn and install drip irrigation and a LOT of low water plantings. Two years on, the yard still attracts a lot of impressed onlookers, as well as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It's a gorgeous space and makes our house feel like a haven.

Richard is phenomenal. He 100% goes the extra mile, takes incredible care in his work, and is easy to work with. He redid a brick pathway and set of stairs in our yard, both which turned out perfect. Highly recommend.

Richard was able to take our basic ideas and transform our sad patch of dirt and rocks into a peaceful sanctuary. He worked day in and day out to get it done before the winter and we couldn't be happier. Thanks, Richard!

Recalling back to the summer of 2022, my wife and I were searching for a landscaper. At the time, our entire backyard was still dirt which was left over from the when it was initially built in 2019. Several designs and quotes later, we contacted Richard from Garden Landscapes. There are a few things I can tell you about working with Richard, one of which is that we will be returning customers for his services. Richard has robust demonstrated experience working with the local plants and fauna and can easily explain his decision-making process. Allowing him to capitalize on his own artistic experience turned our backyard into what will soon be a beautiful PNW-style backyard that will awe and captivate for years to come. The garden, even in its earliest stages, lured butterflies and other beautiful native creatures to share in its beauty. My wife and I have very much enjoyed sitting on our porch last season to take in the view and happenings of the garden so far. Speaking to Richard himself he is disciplined in terms of his punctuality, responsiveness, and overall use of his time. I will be sure to add photos after the first bloom this season!

After getting either no response from other highly rated companies or extremely high quotes for weed removal only, I reached out to Richard and was so refreshed by his quick communication and ability to meet in person to assess our yard. He walked through everything with me, shared insights on what was worth keeping, how to better maintain things, and made suggestions for our sprinkler system. That first meeting alone was so helpful! After we hired him, he was meticulous about removing all of our weeds (which were out of control), and set us up with beautiful new edging that makes our backyard lawn look great. Now that the plants and mulch are in, I can see his vision for a lush, colorful, full garden coming together. I am excited to see the plants mature and fill in and spend less time weeding and maintaining in the years to come. Thank you Richard!

Kind of scary to have your entire front lawn removed and replaced with multiple plants. But, the promise of less maintenance and awesome looking yard is exactly what we have.
People have stopped and complement the work and the beauty of our garden on several occasion. Its like living on the grounds of a herbarium. And every season it just gets better.

Richard is the small business owner you wish they could all be. He is dependable and does just what he says he will when he says will. He spends time thinking about your project and letting the idea evolve until he sees what he wants to do. So your project doesn’t look just like all the other ones. He is versatile and understands that each home is different and demands a personal and site specific design. When the work begins Richard is there every day, working full days until the garden is done. He is systematic and efficient but also a perfectionist. He does not have a lazy bone and therefore does things right even when that means spending more time than he budgeted for. And he absorbs it not the home owner. Really can’t say enough.

We have been using Richard's services for the past five years and he has always done an exceptional job for us at a reasonable price. Richard takes great pride in his work, and it shows in the results, which are always beautiful! He has always been extremely responsive when we've needed emergency trimming and very helpful and creative when we wanted to change some landscaping. Richard did a fantastic job on my small sandy lot in Spring air Estates. Working with mostly native type plants that will require low water once established and very maintenance free. Drip lines were added from my existing system which saved time and money. Just what I was looking for. Highly recommended. Thank You Richard!

Richard installed a large paver patio for us this spring. We planned to get a hot tub for the new patio and Richard took great care to create a level spot and recommended pavers that would easily handle the extra weight. I was also impressed by the time and care he took into the prep work which gives me great confidence in the quality of his work.

His communication style is very direct which may rub some people the wrong way but we appreciate his directness and honest opinion. We hope to hire him in the future for some additional work in our backyard.
