HVAC reviews in Garden Grove, California

My very first time leaving a review online my entire life. It was THAT bad. VERY rude customer service. No wonder they reported yelp they have closed down after collecting 2.5 stars with 100+ reviews.
My warranty company assigned them, so I had no choice. They set up a time frame between 11am - 5 pm, so I had to stay home all day to wait for them. Nobody showed up, called me, left me a text message. I called the company multiple times and left a voice message but nobody picked up the phone from the office.
They called me the next day to 'reschedule', claiming that their service guy was here yesterday, so I let her know I stayed home all day and nobody showed up. She got irritated and told me that I am wasting HER time after they wasted my ENTIRE DAY yesterday. Then she quickly hung up on me by saying she will not provide a service and I should look for a different company.
I would not have left this review if she simply reschedules me another day. I am not sure if she is the manager or the owner even, but I was actually very surprised by her customer service and the way she treats/talks to her customers. There are 100+ reviews still on the Yelp to prove my experience with them. Please don't waste your time. -
I've had my share of nightmare stories with HVAC companies and I'm so relieved to say that Dunn-Rite has restored my faith. Their tech was on time, listened to my issue, and was able to diagnose my AC problem within minutes and fix the problem on the first visit. If you're looking for a company to do work for you, I would recommend Dunn-Rite Heating & Air. Thank you!

Received a call from dispatch 30 minutes after putting in my trouble ticket even though it was after hours. On the schedule for the following morning and Doug showed by 10am. Had me up in and running in less than 15 minutes. Not sure the AC was down for even 12 hours!
First experience with this oputfit, I would say I was Dunn-Rite :) -
I will add to the list of growing disgruntled home owners that had a terrible experience with Dunn Rite. Same as everyone else, we were forced to use Dunn Rite by our Home warranty, when AC unit stopped working.
First the tech changed out the blower fan. System operated for 15 minutes before shutting off. Of course the tech left and we had to call again. The 2nd trip they had to replace the motherboard. Again it worked for 15 minutes, tech left. Called for a third time & apparently the the newly installed motherboard was defective. Fourth trip the reinstalled new motherboard.
7 months later, the AC unit stopped working. I called their competitor, NextGen, and their tech quickly informed me its another bad board.
Finally I called Dunn Rite, only to be told the boards only have a 30 day warranty & im SOL.
No Accountability what so ever. 😢 -
Jay was kind, professional and got the job done Fast! Thank you!

Jay is terrific! Polite, clean and efficient. Thank you so much!

American Home Warranty required using these guys. Dunn-Right's technicians came later than the requested to a scheduled appointment last week, so we had to reschedule. I got a call 5 days later from a person who identified herself as "Meghan", who said she was the "owner". She was rude and aggressive from the start of the call. She told me she couldn't have anyone out for ANOTHER week, I told her that didn't work, that her techs missed the scheduled time and I wanted a follow up quicker than that. She proceeded to argue, berate and scream at me, refusing to acknowledge even the possibility they made a mistake, bragging that they've been in business for 20 years and that wasn't possible. Amazingly arrogant, lacking even a modicum of professionalism. Any business person knows to NEVER argue with a customer. Take your lumps even if you're "right", and move one to fight anther day. She CLEARLY is willing to "die on every hill". She told me to take my business to another company and promptly hung up. She must be offering cut rate fees for AHW to be OK with this treatment towards their clients. May have some struggles for the "owner" to be doing the scheduling....BEWARE.
AND they don't have a web site. -
Dunn-Rite did an excellent job. This experience should be a lesson learned for FAHW. When you hire I was in the Auto Repair, Tire and Towing business for 23 years and I know how contractors work. I would like to invite all of the FAHW big wig who set these contract to. .or rates to come out here and live in the same conditions I had to endure. I live in a very unique area where the temperatures reach up to 126 degrees for weeks at a time. That being said after this horrible experience for the last 5+ months of HELL I was put through and I believe this will fall on deaf ears, I contemplating changing insurance companies.

Great customer service from Janet and Jay. Always called us back and kept us updated and Jay was very professional and took his time to make sure our heating was working. Definitely would recommend them and use them.

Don’t know why this company got so many bad reviews but I couldn’t have manifested a nicer and efficient technician. Jay came right on time as expected. He was well prepared with paperwork of my own home warranty insurance coverage and explained to me what’s covered versus what’s not covered. My unit simply needed Freon and he added more Freon to my unit and my house immediately started to cool down again. Funny guy. Honest guy. And how do I know he was honest? Because as soon as he left I called American home shield to check my coverage and yup! They repeated the same coverage as what jay had told me. I now feel the price of the Freon he quoted me was fair and will trust jay to come back out to my house again if my ac unit requires repair again.

Please reconsider choosing Dunn-Rite. The company needs to be more helpful in providing services on heating & air conditioning issues. I had to call three times from my home warranty that my A/C turns on and off, and nothing has been "Dunn-Rite". I called Home Depot and the Home Depot techs came in and actually checked and observed my A/C issues, and answered all of my questions. They also installed an air filter, and my A/C began to work. AVOID this place at all costs. The standards and values of this company are absent.
If you get a technician named Jay- GOOD LUCK, Orange County. The guy seems like he does not want to work for Dunn-Rite. His attitude is flat and dismisses questions and concerns. The guy needs a vacation or therapy. -
Doug came out to check the heating system. Clearly not planning on doing anything that day but just looking for an easy out. Found my external unit in a wooden box so asked that I remove it to give him access and immediately left. Took me 10 minutes to remove the box and gain access.
Called back to make another appointment, no response from them unless I complain to the home warranty. Refused to come in on a weekend, refused to come in when I'm not home even if I give him access, refused to give me a narrow window of arrival. Eventually I had to take a whole day off work and sit at home all day waiting for him but he never showed up, claiming that he had a late job. Promised to show up the next day or the day after but never heard back from him.
If you're stuck with this company, chances are they were assigned to you by your home warranty, hard to believe anyone would willfully hire those jokers. The worst of the worst.
My home warranty is First American Home Warranty, also the worst of the worst since they contract with mediocre companies like this one. -
Dunn-Rite was sent to us through AHS.
Our AC unit stopped blowing cool air. Jay came out and wasn’t able to answer any of my questions. He refilled the coolant knowing it will leak. He mentioned he has to attempt to fix the unit for home insurance purposes. We all knew it would leak but he assured us the $400 we spent to refill will be put towards a replacement unit.
As predicted the coolant leaked. Brandon was sent to find the leak but instead proceeded to fix the unit. He shut off some valve and assured me we wouldn’t have anymore issues. I however was certain our problems weren’t solved.
Again as predicted the AC didn’t blow out cool air. Jay shows up again confused to why he was here, stating he can’t do anything. He told the home insurance they can’t fix the problem. (All they needed to do was replace the units).
I tried to contact them about the $400, no response.
Starlight Heating and Air came through and replaced both units.
Do not use Dunn-Rite unless you have a simple task for them. -
Jay came to our house twice to "fix" our AC unit. Just filled up refrigerant when he said it was 100% empty and said there were no leaks. Our home warranty required us to go back through them again, after I had to reach out to them because Dunn-rite would not call me back since Tuesday when we noticed worse issues from the Monday "fix". Today Jay was sent out again for a 10am, arrived at 10:54, looked at our unit for 1 or 2 minutes outside only. Came in and said we would have to wait over a week to have it fixed. He also was extremely rude and belittling to me and lied to us on Monday saying no leaks, then today telling us the refrigerant he put in seals leaks. He also told us if we wanted it fixed tomorrow we would have to pay $5000. Additionally, he said it would be better if my husband was available to talk since I'm not a contractor and didn't know what I was talking about.
To summarize, do not use this company under any circumstances. Terrible response time, unprofessional, and underqualified/rude technician. Will break things further and want you to pay more money.
Update: We had a second company come out to actually fix the problem. When the new company came out (great reviews, which is why we hired them with our own money!) they said whoever last worked on the AC unit had the fans set to overdrive/high pressure and they had to take out 2 pounds of the refrigerant. They said had it been run more the system would have blown out and we would have needed it replaced. (Supporting our conclusion that Dunn-Rite is a scamming company looking to break things in order to get business!)
Secondly: Megan called me today and wanted to know why we left such a horrible review. She continuously called me rude and interrupted me. She said they bent over backwards to have someone come out but never let me get to the part about why we HAD to go through another company. Absolute scam and horrible company with the rudest people too! -
Doug was right on time and he was done in 30 minutes. He caught the incorrect setting right off and explained how it affected everything. I would recommend him to anyone needing AC work done!

Will not recoment this company , the technition replace the 1 capacitor on April 24,2024 because the unit was blowing hot air not cooling and also the unit kept running with out stopping. When I call for service again May 15, 2024 because the A/C unit was not stopping Dunn-Rite knew the problem. The dispatcher said that they knew , my respone was how come the tech didn't resolve the problem same day? The dispatcher said they are not going to replace every part in the unit. I just loss it and said come and fix it and will give you a bad review. I am honest and if the company is in the business repairing be honest and communicate with customers and you will get alot referrals.

"This is my second experience with Jay and he’s great. He Has fixed both my issues and is professional and personable. Thank you for your help!".

I'd give zero stars if i could. Do not use. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt the need to share my experience with Dunn-Rite Heating and Air to hopefully spare others from the level of frustration we experienced.
We had arranged a service appointment for our air conditioning unit that had stopped blowing cool air. A technician from the company arrived and inspected the unit. He concluded that the unit was in working condition, which was questionable considering our recent experiences. However, we took his expertise at face value, expecting that he would understand the intricacies of the job better than us.
To our dismay, within hours after the technician left, the unit stopped functioning completely. The very issue that we called for assistance was not resolved, despite their assurance. When we alerted them the following morning, their response was not only disappointing but also frustrating.
Dunn-Rite Heating and Air insisted that the unit was working fine at the time of the service and therefore, they had done their job. This in itself is a reflection of their poor customer service - they were quick to dismiss our concerns instead of trying to understand and rectify the issue.
But what really compounded our frustration was their unwillingness to send another technician for a recheck sooner than six days later. With the heat of the summer, waiting for almost a week without a functioning AC unit is not just inconvenient, but unbearable.
I would strongly discourage anyone from using their services based on this experience. There are undoubtedly other companies that value their customers and strive to ensure they are not left high and dry, especially in a heatwave. The 'right' in Dunn-Rite seems more a marketing gimmick than a commitment to their customers. -
My service man was very thorough and friendly and listened to my concerns and checked out the issues and repaired them in a timely and efficebnt manner.

Our insurance (First American) contracted Dunn-Rite to repair our heater. 1st appointment they determined that the control board was defective. They also tested the valve (good) and the thermostat (good). 2nd appointment was a no-show without notice. 3rd appointment the guy installed the new board. Now the gas valve and the thermostat are both fried. 4th appointment they installed a "new" valve. The "new" valve looked like it came directly from a dumpster, gnarled up with deep scrapes in the housing. The "new" valve did not work. 5th appointment, they install a different valve - a cheap one (not the Honeywell we had before). After more than two weeks in winter, the furnace finally works. And I have to foot the bill for the thermostat they fried, which they did not replace.

First American Home Warranty introduced us to Dunn-Rite based on our report of a furnace failure. Dunn-Rite sent a genius to evaluate the problem and another furnace genius to install the new one. They were responsive, gave us news, deadlines then showed up as promised. Wow.
