Montclair Construction all the way! I contacted them shortly after the major atmospheric storms hit us in early January. We had some flooding in our basement, and realized if we didn't do something about it, it would be more troublesome in the long term. We called Montclair Construction and to our surprise, we got a consultation right away. Shortly after an estimate, we went ahead with a french drain that ran all the way to the street gutter. The team worked very hard; even through some days of rain and mud. The project was completed within a month. They cleaned up, walked us through the new system and left us feeling confident for the next storm. A week later, another atmospheric storm came up on us. What a relief to see that Montclair Construction did a great job--everything held up as promised. Thank you MC for the professionalism and the peace of mind for great construction work!

Montclair Construction did an excellent job rebuilding our back stairs. They produced a solid, attractive set of stairs with no delays at the agreed-upon price. The crew was skilled, hard-working, and professional.

Montclair Construction recently took the entire front off our house and rebuilt it, from the helical pile foundation to the roof, and they did a fantastic job. It was almost a four-month job, and Carlos and his crew were timely, pleasant, and skilled, and kept the worksite tidy throughout. There were very few issues, but when something did come up they were non-defensive and immediately responded and fixed the problem. These were all small issues and easily remedied. Justin Caddy was the project manager and he met with us every week to go over progress and plans, and was easygoing and always super-responsive to any communication. Carlos, the head of the crew, was also a good communicator and very responsive to whatever we asked him to do. We lived in the house through the whole project and they were considerate of our needs. The only added cost over the estimate was some rot that was discovered and had to be dealt with--otherwise they stayed completely within the initial bid. (We had budgeted for an overage so it was all within expected parameters.) We really can't say enough about how good our experience was. We would definitely hire Montclair again for future projects.

After 3 years in the making, Montclair Construction helped rebuild our retaining walls in the backyard. Not only were they ahead of schedule as soon as the permits were through, they helped us understand the permitting process. They were incredibly flexible in either sourcing surprise resources on their side or working with the referrals I found for structural engineering, surveying and more. To top it off they finished a final item after I'd written the last check -- a rare commitment to professionalism.

Montclair Construction has been our go-to for large and small repairs and reconstruction for over 15 years. We highly recommend them. They have installed faucets and refrigerator lines, and replaced several concrete walkways. They rebuilt an exterior wall and walkway that were damaged by soil erosion and weather – this also improved drainage. They replaced a parking bridge. When we needed to replace a sizeable asphalt driveway, they sourced a great sub-contractor and managed the project to our satisfaction. They are prompt and leave the work area clean each day. We have been fortunate to work with Robert Jarrat as the project manager on all these jobs. Everyone on the team is a professional.

We recently used Montclair Construction & Structural to build a retaining wall and backfill behind it. The process, of course, involved engineers and surveyors and dealing with the Oakland planning department - all of which were seamlessly handled for us. The crew were all super professional, completed the work in a timely fashion and cleaned up everything after themselves when they left. While Montclair may not be the cheapest option you can find - their professionalism and quality are worth it.

We used Monclair Structural to add a large deck onto our home several years ago. They did a wonderful job, and we have referred many people to them since. The deck is so well-built, so aesthetically pleasing, I’m confident it has really added to the value of our home. Thank you Arthur and team for a fabulous job!

In 2021 I noticed that our rear deck in the East Bay hills seemed to be leaning away from the house and two of the supports appeared to have been weakened by age or insects. I called a firm that advertised they did many hillside deck repairs in the East Bay Area. After some negotiation, we entered a contract for reinforcement of the existing deck. As time went on, we became increasingly uncomfortable with the lack of clear information from the contractor and hired a young engineer to help explain things about the construction and to interface with the firm. The contractor then suggested we find another firm to work with as they did not want to deal with a third party. We had already paid them several thousand dollars for structural design and permit fees, but they then refused to return phone calls or respond to emails. It was an unpleasant and costly experience.
Friends recommended Montclair Construction. They gave it high marks for competence and excellent staff. At our first meeting with Robert, we were pleased with his level of clarity and specificity about the project timing, based on their current work commitments. Robert has been wonderful at keeping our project moving and as cost conscious as possible. His general knowledge and years of experience in construction allow him to present reasonable alternatives when unexpected issues pop up, as they often do. His even temperament and clear answers keep things on track. Ours was not an easy job, but Robert and the workers from Montclair Construction stayed on top of everything with skill and good humor and they did an excellent job in a reasonable time frame.

They did a really nice and professional job on a porch and front steps repair. Did just what I wanted. Very clean carpentry, and work properly done. Great crew doing the work, polite, communicative, left the job tidy. Not the cheapest, but much better work than what your brother-in-law can do...

They replaced a deck, front porch, and reshingled a side of my house. From initial contact through design, drafting, permitting, and construction every member of the team was on time, friendly, efficient, and always responsive to my questions and needs. The final construction is absolutely beautiful and everything was cleaned up afterwards. A pleasure to deal with every one of the many who came to work on the project and they got it finished ahead of schedule! I can recommend Montclair Construction without reservation.

Montclair Construction added a retaining wall and did some foundation repair for me recently. Robert, Diana, Javier, and the rest of the crew were all very responsive and reliable for the entire process. Everything was done professionally and they left my basement clean at the end. I would definitely work with them again.

I had them install two French drains and a sister foundation for my hillside house. The project was completed within the estimate and the work was excellent. I worked with Robert, who coordinated the quote, the design, the permitting work and the construction. He explained the project and efforts entailed to get all the work done. The crew was courteous and professional and did a great job on clean up after the job was completed. I will definitely reach back out for the next project I need help with.

I needed support beams fixed urgently due to dry rot. Montclair was very prompt with not only responding to my inquiry, but also getting me on their schedule and completing the job. They were attentive and performed thorough work.

Justin from Montclair came out to visit my home and see my issue with water in my basement. After seeing the basement and side of my home, he recommended we perform the work of installing a French drain system in a couple of phases. This would allow me to split the project into affordable projects. The work was completed the crew cleaned up the worksite and showed me how to check and maintain the newly installed system.

Justin and his crew have worked on our house a few times over the years. Recently they fixed our windows. The wood work is impeccable and the project was completed on time and on budget.

We needed to remove a "jacuzzi bathtub" done by a previous owner and replace it with an ADA-compliant walk-in shower before my husband's surgery. I knew there might be some issues since our house was built in 1947 and never wholly updated, plus some strange DIY from previous owners, we could be in for some nasty surprises. I got bids from major companies that offer fast plug-in plastic/fiber molded showers, Home Depot, and a few individual contractors. A friend mentioned that her parents always used Montclair Construction. Robert Jarrat came out and did a comprehensive inspection and offered some insights from his similar shower experience. I loved the existing tile work and did not feel that the insert-type showers were in keeping with the style and scale of our bungalow home. We went over the initial contract, keeping in mind what we might find post-demo. We added some change orders to the initial work as we addressed the issues. The teams that did each part of the work were great: Javier & Hense on the Demo & plumbing, Chito, Henry & Duong on the Tile team, and finally, Carlos the Door guy. Robert checked in on the progress of each step. The result is a modern, safe shower in the scale and style we love for our home. They finished a couple of weeks early, giving us peace of mind to focus on upcoming surgery and recovery. I will use Montclair Construction in the future. I highly recommend them for quality work; they have talented, respectful crews and an experienced project supervisor. The price was fair for the job done to a high standard.

I have been doing business with Montclair Construction for 14 years for a wide variety of services. They have always done high quality work on time, and if anything goes wrong along the way, they see to it that it is made right.

I had them replace the flooring and drainage system for an interior courtyard in our home. They provided a fair and detailed estimate within 24 hours of coming to discuss the project and were able to start the project sooner than anticipated. The crew -- led by Eduardo Guzman -- worked very hard and diligently throughout the project. When they encountered a major -- and unanticipated problem with the drainage system -- the onsite crew worked tirelessly to solve it, saving us a tremendous amount of money by avoiding bringing in a drainage specialist. Despite these problems, they finished the job on time and very close to the original estimate. The quality of their work and the attention to smallest details was extremely impressive. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again for any construction project.
