Very nice technician came out to my home to check out my mini split system to see why the thermostat was not working properly. The heater would not come up to the temperature the wireless thermostat was set at. The technician checked the system and confirmed it was not working properly. I told him the manufacturer, Mitsubishi, said the solution to the problem would be to install a wired remote thermostat.
The technician, thought doing so would solve the problem and told me he would get back to me with a quote to supply and install the wired remote thermostat.
I work in the trades, so I have a pretty good idea on what it takes to do a job. I do not have an HVAC license, so I can not buy parts from an HVAC supply house. Thus the reason I called Clean Air HVAC, a licensed, certified HVAC contractor to do the work. The retail cost of the parts, with tax, which I had previously priced out was almost $400. And the time to install the thermostat was 1 to 2 hrs. of labor. I was given a quote of $1,480 to perform the job by Sarah, the office manager.
The price seemed really high. I called and asked Sarah why it would cost over $1,000 to perform 1 to 2 hrs. of work and if I could get a price breakdown which might explain why the quote was so expensive. Sarah said the reason it was so expensive is due to the material costs and that it needed wire to install the thermostat. I tried to explain to her what the actual materials costs were and that the thermostat wire was actually included with the new thermostat.
Instead of explaining the high cost of the quote to perform the work, Sarah decided it would be easier to just hang up on me. Which she did. I called her back, just in case the call was disconnected by mistake. No one answered and the voice mail came on. I left a message asking for the owner of the company to contact me. So far, no return call.
I paid $100 for the tech to come out to my home to see what work needed to be performed. If this is how Clean Air HVAC treats their customers, I am very lucky I did not spend anymore than the $100. I read the reviews of this company before calling them to come out to my home. There were a lot of good reviews.
Possibly this is just a problem with the one employee, Sarah and not an accurate description of how this company conducts their business. However, Sarah is the first person one speaks to when contacting this business and handles the correspondence with the customers. I would suspect I am not the only customer Sarah has been rude to. The owner needs to know how his employee Sarah is treating his customers.
Update to this review after reading the reply from the business owner. The quote was not for 2 thermostats as the business owner incorrectly stated in their reply, it was for 1. I ended up installing the remote thermostat myself and it took me little less than 2 hrs. to install and works great. When speaking with Sarah, she made no attempt to explain why the estimate was so high, other than claiming it was due to thermostat wire needed to install thermostat. The remote thermostat came with plenty of thermostat wire. I actually had about 20 feet of left over wire after the installation. Even if it did need extra thermostat wire, which it didn't, it is very inexpensive to purchase. What it came down to is, Sarah, who answers their phone and is the liaison between the technicians/owner and the customer, did a horrible job communicating with me. Hanging up on a customer when they question you about a potential job is an unacceptable way to treat a customer. Sarah's poor attitude and poor communication skills definitely were a big part of me choosing to not doing any further business with Clean Air HVAC INC . I never did receive a return call from the owner of Clean Air HVAC INC. -
They were here around the time they mentioned and got what needed to be done in their suggested time frame and took care of my unit making sure no issues will come up before the summer or winter. Very friendly and knowledgeable of my unit.

Someone from the company, actually the owner, was able to come out the same day I called. He was able to do a temporary fix to keep my air conditioner running during a heat wave. He came back within a day to install a new thermostat.
Very efficient & honest service. -
As a Realtor, I have considered Clean Air HVAC my go-to contractor for everything heating & A/C. Always friendly, always helpful, and always providing quality work. They even installed my system at home!

Although Jon, the man who came out to my home, was excellent. (He carefully checked out the thermostat, then went to the roof. He explained the compressor was no longer working.) We discussed replacement units. I asked if the workers could move the thermostat up on the wall and patch the hole from where the old one would be removed. He said he didn't think that would not be a problem.
After that visit, things went downhill fast. The draft of the contract the company sent did not include moving the thermostat. So I emailed back about that. This we went on and on on specifics. No one explained why the change from what I was told. Also my language that precisely stated how much higher the new thermostat would be on the wall was a problem I gave language that would work, including that the top of the new thermostat would be 6.5 inches above the top of the hole from the old thermostat The contract kept coming back "5 inches higher" with no specification of higher than what. (if they went 5" higher in a way that was simply 5" above the old one, it would be too high for me to see without craning my neck back, which I cannot do, due to the results of a 5-month-long serious spinal fluid leak that left me unable to crane my neck back. I needed the new thermostat top to be 6.5" from the top of the empty hole left by the old thermostat.
I had conceded other items (OK no paint or texture on drywall over the old thermostat hole) then OK no drywall. Then OK no drywall. Then I asked for heavy cardboard taped shut over any hole in the wall when they were not working on the hole. (I may not be in the unit when holes are made) I explained that the condos have rats in the walls and I do not want one to slip in. Then waiting again. Then email that they would patch the hole. I thought they would do drywall when I read this, but I may have been mistaken they may have been thinking of the cardboard solution. Then I heard nothing for 5 or 6 days, the language about 5" not being changed..
I then decided to read the 1 star reviews for this company to see if there was any hint of the kind of problems I was having.
And there were complaints of communication problems. Sadly, after being under stress trying to get a precise contract done, I was comfortable with signing, and not being able to stay warm enough on some evenings, nites and some mornings and, and having no idea why we could not agree on my 6.5 inch language I had to give up and find another company.
Was I fired from being a client? I liked Jon who came out the first day. And Sarah seemed kind and polite when she would get back to me (although not giving explanations why some language stayed the same.) Was management holding her up on relies?
Did they get a better job to go out on?
Why didn't anyone call me to tell me they would not do what the front man said should not be a problem?
So confusing. Bad communication, long waits between emails. We were so close to a signed contract, but too many days went past.
Jon had me sold, until I got unsold.
So despite a good Yelp rating (over 4.0, I think 4.3 or 4.5) I made a big mistake not reading all the 1 star reviews, before I went forward, which I know to do on Amazon. The 1 star complaints alleged poor communication and frustration.
But I was sold on Jon being so kind, intelligent and honest, which I think he was. -
This really is a quality company. I recently had my Mini Split replaced by Clean Air, and am so grateful for the excellent job. Claudia was so helpful, she really went above and beyond. The Hepa filter in combination with the new system really makes a huge difference in my allergy symptoms( Headaches, sinus issues and shortness of breath). The humidity level is so much better, which is testified by much better monitor readings.
The most important thing is that I feel much more comfortable, ( probably because I can breathe easier) which makes my quality of life much more enjoyable. Thanks so much for an excellent job, well done! -
Showed up as scheduled to check on filter. Jonathan is friendly, knowledgable and answered all of my questions.
Heater and AC they installed a year ago works GREAT!

It is a wonderful experience working with Clean Air HVAC to reconnect my Lennox air conditioning unit. Both technicians are very professional and knowledgeable assuring me a positive outcome and they delivered. Kenny tested the air outlets throughout the house and confirmed everything is working properly after firing up the unit. Thank you for the great work.

Our technician arrived right on time, got to work, and did a thorough job. I saw the filters he cleaned and was astounded by the amount of debristhat had been collected. It is a relief to know that our system is now clean and well-functioning. Thank you!

I had Clean Air HVAC install a new A/C system a year ago. I initially selected the Company because its price was below the other bids I was looking at. I’m pleased with the unit installed, and the customer service is friendly, helpful, and responsive, which keeps me coming back. I highly recommend Clean Air HVAC!

I was going to replace my water heater, but an HVAC line that has been installed 11 years earlier was in the way. So I called CleanAir HVAC and Roy Branda stopped by, gave me a brief tutorial on when you know a water heater needs replacing and assured me that the water heater I had was nowhere near the end of its useful life, but when it was that Clean Air would move the line so a new water heater could be installed.

Jonathan was excellent from the time he arrived at our house till he left. He gave us a detailed description of the condition of then furnace and air conditioners. He left us with a detailed written evaluation of both. He was polite and pleasant. We are very pleased with his service call to our home.

Great communication. Patrick was thorough in checking our system and made an excellent suggestion to improve airflow. As a result, I set up a maintenance contract with them.

Clean Air never sent the HVAC packet for the inspection with the City of Walnut Creek. When I received emails from the City informing me that the inspection was due by 12/17/24 I contacted Clean Air and they finally sent me the inspection packet. I had no idea the responsibility was mine because I wasn’t properly informed by Clean Air. When I told the inspector of the issue he said it was typical of Clean Air to drop the ball.

Everyone from the office staff to the field technicians is professional, patient and friendly. We had a full replacement of our HVAC system and the installers were efficient and left the work site cleaner than when they arrived. I would recommend this business to anyone needing HVAC work.

Clean Air is the best HVAC company!
When my thermostat recently blew a fuse, Clean Air worked miracles and sent someone the very same day to diagnose the problem, replace the fuse and do a revision of the whole HVAC system. -
They did a fantastic job cleaning the HVAC system! Very friendly men, did a thorough job, very professional, we definitely could breathe the difference.
