I had several very expensive (and suspect) estimates of fixing several (unnecessary) things , including replacing the whole 11 year old unit. A friend recommended John Owen Services . David was trustworthy and a technical expert. The office kept me informed on his arrival by text.
I’ll use JOS as my company for any future heating or plumbing needs. (beware of others who whose technicians are on commission or who show up without a company ID.

Ok so they redeemed themselves by being proactive in communicating arrival time and sending a courteous and good plumber. A great experience!!

John Owens Services has excellent employees. Zack is fantastic: excellent pre-appointment communications, on-time, thorough and fast to complete the job. He explained and demonstrated how to change the electrostatic filter, as well as the recommended replacement interval. Excellent service; great company!

The technicians seemed very capable and didn’t feel like they were trying to sell us. They prioritized us and got the job done relatively quickly. They were a little more expensive than others, but the experience was very good

I can’t express my gratitude to John Owens ‘s Technicians for restoring the heating back to my home that was lacking for almost 50 years ! Of the many electricians that came down from the attic not one reported how dreadful the attic was! The ducts were gone!
We suffered cold for those many years from the hall way to the dining room ,our house was freezing ! Our electric bills , horribly high!
Thanks to John Owens , the young man that made the inspection of the attic ,with video. I was faced with the dreadful situation our attic was in! The ducts were installed, our furnace wrapped and our home has been very comfortable and cosy ,from the day they performed their work , till today . I won’t trust anyone else with my attic work, ever again!

Great service ! I had my heating ducts removed and replaced under my house due to rodent damage. The technician Jairo and his helper did a fantastic install. The work was very clean and they also through in a few extras such as changing out my thermostat wire from a 2 wire to a 3 wire so that I can run the fan without heat. He also taped up the existing flue pipe. These guys have a great future in the business. I was a contractor for nearly 50 years and would hire these guys any day. Thank you John Owen's

Abel from John Ownen's was great. He arrived within 2 hrs from when I called to let them know that my water heater that they installed 4 years ago was not heating. He replaced a part and the heater was back up 3 to 4 h after I called! No charge! Abel was great to work with. He explained and showed me everything he was doing. I highly recommend this company.

John Owens Services did a spectacular job helping us to electrify our home, replacing our gas furnace and gas water heater with energy efficient electric heat pumps. They were clear and responsive communicators and the workers were all respectful, highly professional, willing to answer all our questions, and positive about their company. The warranty offered was head and shoulders above the ones received in bids from other companies. The fact that the company offers plumbing, HVAC, electrical and even construction expertise meant that the work was integrated and the advice we received was rooted in a thorough assessment of what we and our home needed ...much appreciated, given the steep learning curve of trying to sort out how to transition away from gas. We highly recommend this company!

I have used John Owen’s Services multiple times for two different services (AC and Plumbing) and they have always been great! I love how they send me text messages for reminders that they are coming and also send me a picture of the technician who comes out. They have always been timely and very professional and give me simple explanations of what’s going on along with recommendation options! I will definitely continue using them!

Our experience with John Owens services was excellent. I had an appointment between the window of 2-4pm for a consultation for a minisplit/heatpump and Ray showed up right at 2pm! So wonderful. He was very helpful and thorough, checking the electrical panels to ensure the unit would work for the site. The quote we received gave us three options to consider, and the price is competitive to other companies in the bay area. This company has impressive guarantees, including a 12 year warranty on the equipment. This company truly values their employees and is family owned. They even have technology that maps out what the unit would look like in your home. Very efficient. Highly recommend working with them! Thank you Ray.

William was a delight to work with. He was consciousness and friendly. He explained the flushing of my water heater and how important it is to keep up the maintenance.

John Owens Services has been great to work with. Stacie was so helpful! We’ve been without heat for a few days and they were booked out a week but Stacie called us the next day after someone had cancelled and got someone over here within the hour of the call. He too was very professional and very wonderful to work with. I do recommend!

The tech was very pleasant and did a credible job. He was there about an hour and a half.
However the pricing was rather opaque. After saying it was dependent on several things, I was asked to look at a screen and agree to a fixed price. Well I am out $67 trip charge (not waived or added to the work done). and you have to ask yourself should I just go forward or start over?
So I did go forward and when i received the invoice via email it listed:
1 ball valve $592.14
Minimum trip not applied to repair costs $67
sr disc (I requested this and it was given) ($32)
total $626.19
There is no breakout between labor and materials. It appears to be a flat charge plus the trip charge, So I don't know why I was told 'it depends on a number of things' and that tells me that John Owens Services has no investment in their customers relationships.
I felt the pricing was predatory and I won't use them again.
I don't know who owns John Owens anymore but I don't think it is John Owens.
They need to be more transparent about their pricing and show parts and labor, plus I have had others include the trip charge in the labor when the customer proceeds with the work. This work was very expensive for an hour and 40 minutes.

I am so glad I found this company! Wonderful people, who really wanted to help! They answer the phone right away, actual person was trying to find time for my appointment as soon as possible. The technician came even earlier and assessed the situation in a second, and offered all solutions to my problem. He went above and beyond to fix a very serious situation on the same day. And it was right before Thanksgiving! I am so grateful to all those people who made my celebration possible! If I can give 10 stars to them I would!

I can’t say enough good things about John Owens Services, Inc. After a devastating experience with a previous contractor who scammed us out of over $316,000 , we were hesitant to trust anyone again. But John Owens completely restored our faith in contractors. From start to finish, they were professional, communicative, and transparent. They did everything they promised for the agreed-upon price—no surprises, no hidden fees. The only hiccup was with the Cal Tech Rebate, which didn’t come through, but that was out of their control and not their fault. If you’re looking for a reliable, honest team that gets the job done right, John Owens is the way to go. Highly recommend!
