I rarely write reviews, but I want to write this one. I had a 4-ton and a 3-ton heat pump system installed by Alternative HVAC Solutions in San Carlos. The owner Mike came out to assess what needed to be done. He was very willing to spend whatever time was necessary to answer my questions, and being an engineer a had a lot. There were 5 different guys that were involved in doing the job. Every one of them seemed very knowledgeable, and were very helpful, and were also very polite. I enjoyed working with them. The two systems work very well. I heartily recommend their company.

I can’t say enough about how good this company is. Fortino, Brandon and Josh went the extra mile and did a wonderful job. They started on time every day and kept the area they were working on clean. At the end of each day they cleaned up everything. We changed from an old gas furnace to a heatpump and they removed the old system and vents and re-routed the vents to bring our system up to code. Now we don’t have big temperature differences in the house and the system is so quiet you can barely tell that it is on. This company is super professional. I can’t recommend them enough.

I am adding a follow-up. Weeks after the installation we noticed a rumbling sound when the system was set to maximum. Julio and Rick came out twice to measure and then to install a custom vibration dampened earthquake restraint for our system. They truly went the extra mile. Thanks again.

From start to finish the experience of working with Alternative HVAC to install a heat pump far exceeded our expectations. Mike's initial visit to explain what would be involved was clear and thorough, and he helped us to feel that we were in capable, experienced, and confident hands. Scheduling with the office staff was a breeze and they made it a priority to answer the phone and/or return our calls promptly.

Adrian and Josh were the team members/installers of our new system. They both exhibited professionalism, friendliness, competency, always on time, were tidy, and encouraged us to not hesitate asking any questions we may have. It was a delight having them here throughout the installation process!

A series of recommendations for anyone looking to install a similar system:

- Mitsubishi is the gold standard.

- 14-20 SEER is the energy efficiency band you want to shoot for as that is the most reliable. Anything in the high 20s or 30s I have read is more experimental and prone to failure.

- They are hard to come by now but spend the extra money for mini split "head" Wi-Fi adapters. Being able to control everything on your phone is excellent.

- It is very cheap to spend a little extra and have a mini split both heat and cool. At the time we installed the main compressor, it was $2,000 more to get the unit that could do both.

- If you are retrofitting an existing house, or are considering an ADU (or 2), consider first the maximum number of heads and BTUs you would need 5 years from now. We installed the 60,000 BTU compressor with a branch box, pictured in photo 3 of the review, with only two mini split heads attached at the time. Let me tell you, it was very convenient just tacking on to the branch box rather than wiring in yet another unit.

Alternative HVAC Solutions did an excellent job directing us with the right furnace for our home. Installation went smooth and they cleaned up after they were done. Their staff are friendly, patient and highly skilled. Michael, Jeff and there team get the job done. They have our continuing business and we will highly recommend them!

I have worked with JW heating in the past and needed a condensing unit leveled out. I have worked with JW heating for many years for heating and A/C work for the company I work for, for all of our clients and for family. They are excellent at what they do, their pricing is very affordable and their service is amazing. I had them install a new heater at my parents house recently and they were kind enough to accommodate my mom with a thermostat that was easy for her to read and use. (She is 88 years old). I give them 5 stars!

Service workers audition and represent the owner and company they work for. In this case their performance was top notch. They were courteous, and respected the property and home where the work took place. A two man crew showed up on time each day prepared with tools and equipment, and they professionally performed each work task until the job was completed. The installation required work in the crawl space of our house which is confining and restricts movement. The workers moved in this space with gymnastic skills. Packaging and debris were contained and removed each day. I speak from 45 years of experience working in the construction industry.

Julio was on time, quickly diagnosed the issue, reviewed it with me in plain English (thanks!), had the parts and completed the work fast. Excellent service all around, I’ll be using JW Heating and Air Conditioning for all my future HVAC needs!
