QUINTESSENTIAL ONE STOP PLACE TO COMPLETE YOUR JOB PROJECTo

I have a property in Los Angeles that needed to be retrofitted. After doing a lot of research, we decided to go with SFT Construction. They work with integrity and are very reasonable as far as the pricing and they walked us through every step of the way! The workers were very clean as well and I would recommend them if you’re in need of any construction work for Soft Story.

SFT Completed a Soft Story Retrofit project in 2018 for a five unit building built in 1976. The original engineering plans were permitted by the city, but weren't correct due do the engineer placing sheer walls under stairs and where electric and gas service comes in. I called SFT and Shayan came over. He inspected, did the basement crawl, did some calculations on his PC, and gave me a number which included new engineering drawings. I also got two other estimates and SFT was about 20% less expensive than both. Very professional Foreman and Crew. Shawn was our foreman for this project and was always available. His crew were very clean and kept the work-space organized. Shawn took over and worked with the City to get all permits, finals, and Certificate of Completion from the SFDBI. Work was estimated 8-12 weeks but was completed 90% in about 6 weeks. They know their stuff and I would recommend them for future projects.

I've been an engineering consultant in San Francisco for 10 years and SFT Construction is my most recommended contractor. They consistently quote the best prices while performing excellent work. Be sure to touch base with them before starting your project.

SFT completed a soft story retrofit for my 8 residential/1 commercial unit building built before 1900 to meet current seismic and CCSF code requirements. It was a complicated project, but SFT had the expertise to do it. Project is now completed with all necessary independent, city, and engineering inspections, test reports, Final Inspection, and Certificate of Completion from SFDBI. The foreman, Adolfo Soto and crew were very skilled and methodically phased all the work necessary for completion. They know what they are doing, communication was good, and quality of work was very good. I recommend them and would consider them for future projects.

I cannot speak more highly of John Fox and North Bay Construction. From start to finish, absolutely exceptional! John is a great communicator and very responsive. We were fairly engaged homeowners in our 1912 Edwardian in Noe Valley, which was down to the studs in half the house. John was very flexible with adapting to changes in the plans and was keen to understand our vision for the project. John also employs only the highest quality subcontractors, and we were completely satisfied with all of them. Most people do not enjoy going through the experience of a remodel, but with North Bay Construction, it was actually fun and satisfying. The final product exceeded our expectations in every respect.

Working with John and North Bay Construction was amazing! They tackled two bathroom remodels and a large kitchen refresh for us, and the results are beautiful. For context, this was our first major remodel and we were fairly new to the process. John came highly recommended and he did not let us down. John and his staff guided us though our year-long project with clear and professional communication, patience and understanding. John and team are professionals, on time, on task and on budget. He set reasonable expectations of what he needed from us as clients and informed us in a timely manner of when decisions needed to be made. His craftsmanship and attention to detail are world class. He also has the benefit of having long-standing relationships with his subcontractors. They all worked as a team to get the project completed on time and within the established budget. John has also been an excellent partner to us following the full remodel of our home. There have been small tweaks here and there that have needed attention and John's been incredibly responsive. We would not work with anyone else if we were to embark upon this project again.

We had been working with a designer (unaffiliated with North Bay) who had been overcharging us; we were way over budget and feeling frustrated. John and North Bay Construction saved us. We fired our designer and John helped us bring our project back to a manageable place without compromising the quality and beauty of the renovation. They did an incredible job - the work is excellent, they were on time and on budget. Everyone who came to the house (electrician, plumber, stucco, roofing, heating/cooling, flooring) were amazing to work with. 10 years later, we still go to him for recommendations for regular house maintenance projects. His advice is never wrong. You won't regret working with North Bay Construction.

Over the last 10+ years, they have completed three large projects at my home, adding roughly 2,500 square feet of new space. This has included a two-story vaulted-ceiling entertainment room, a workout room, three bathrooms, a master bedroom, a home office, and an entirely new facade, all integrated seamlessly into the existing house. On top of that, they have handled more than a dozen smaller jobs for me, such as a half-bath remodel, a larger bathroom remodel, several leak repairs, and most recently an insulated storage area.

Their workmanship has been consistently high-quality, and just as important, they stand by everything they build. On the rare occasions when something was not quite right or needed adjustment, they returned and fixed it promptly with no pushback or debate. Their billing has always been fair and transparent, and they work efficiently without dragging projects out longer than necessary.

North Bay Construction’s team is professional, respectful, and easy to have on site over long periods of construction. They are polite and thoughtful with neighbors, which matters a lot when you are doing large additions that affect noise, access, and parking. I’ve seen them navigate those complex neighbor dynamics with patience and tact, helping keep relationships around us positive during disruptive phases of the work.

One of the things I value most is how quickly they respond when something needs attention. If an urgent issue comes up on site, they are often able to come by within the hour to assess and address it. The team is smart, proactive, and willing to jump in rather than letting problems linger, which has given me a lot of confidence throughout each project.

** Overall recommendation **
After working with North Bay Construction on multiple major additions and many smaller projects over more than a decade, I trust them completely with my home. They combine strong craftsmanship, fair billing, excellent communication, and real accountability, and I plan to continue using them for any future renovations or repairs.

NBC team (John, Judit, carpenters, etc) are highly professional and high quality general contractors.  I would engage with NBC again on all my home projects and look forward to the next one.  The entire experience was a pleasure!  (1) Scope of job:  NBC renovated the entire exterior of my house, including demolition, new windows, carpentry, bolting/bracing, insulation, water-proofing, concrete, stucco, plastering, lighting, paint, roofing, permitting.  (2) Timeliness: NBC worked strenuously to ensure the project was completed on time.  The entire crew, including sub-contractors, committed to showing up on time or early and completed each division/piece on time.   (3) Quality: NBC rigorously vets their sub-contractors.  Every sub-contractor has high standards and is passionate about their craft.  Every team left the site well-organized and clean.  (4) Communication & Organization:  NBC is highly experienced, so the coordination with carpenters, sub-contractors, and permitting was seamless.  They anticipated my questions and needs and were very responsive to requests and changes.  John sent a weekly update on the upcoming week, and checked in regularly during the week.

John and his team were a dream to work with! We had a more complex project and they stepped in on relatively short notice to fit us into their schedule. Throughout the project, John was reliable and transparent. If he said he was going to do something (e.g. meet us, schedule the plumber, talk to the city, etc.) it always happened. We had some minor delays (normal for most projects) and John always took accountability for these situations, bringing well-considered solutions and go-forward plans. Like most homeowners, we don’t do major renovations repeatedly in our lives and have heard so many horror stories — being able to work with a team that is professional and trustworthy, with a high bar for quality gave us the peace of mind to know we were in good hands for one of the largest investments we have made in our home.

I can't sing enough praises about NBC. I had a smaller project (1 bedroom ADU complete tear out and remodel after a fire) and selected this contractor because John and Judit provided me with am honest, transparent, detailed, and thorough bid. Throughout the process, NBC was responsive, communicative, timely, and really surprised me with their level of service. All of the sub-contractors John engages with are experts in their area and very professional. Several years after completion of the project, I'm still very happy with the results and still show off some very subtle contractor-things that spark joy (OCD plumbing lines and back panel, thoughtfulness in planning symmetry around support posts). Any construction knowledgeable visitor always comments on the quality of the work I've had done. I'm looking forward to working with them in the future.
