Dominic is simply the best - I couldn't be happier with his overhaul of my backyard. His team is professional - they showed up when promised and worked hard. Throughout the whole project, Dominic was extremely responsive to any texts or calls. I feel like he treated my yard as if it was his own. I wish all contractors had the same work ethic as So Cal Ponds!

FIVE STARS! Dominic and his crew are AMAZING and the best around! I couldn’t be happier with the pond that he designed and built for our family. He listened to what we wanted, and what he created was absolute perfection!!! Dominic, is very knowledgeable, reliable, and goes above and beyond in all areas. Thank you!!
Also, I would like to give props to our friend, Phil. He services our pond bi-monthly and he does a beautiful job keeping the pond clean and my fish thriving.
I couldn’t be happier with my overall experience with So-Cal Ponds, Inc. I would absolutely recommend them for any of your pond needs. -
I grew up with ponds, from our house in Nederland, Colorado to Sonoma County--so having a pond at my first house in LA was a no brainer. Dominic and the crew at SoCal ponds were great. From initial consult to wrapping up our pond, the crew was professional and worked super hard to execute on our vision. Can't recommend SoCal Ponds enough--they're fantastic and you get what you pay for. Will give them a call when I inevitable want to go bigger :D.

I hired Dominic and his crew to do a small landscaping project for me. They cleaned up a hill, installed irrigation and planted new ground cover. They cleaned up after themselves and went through all the work with me as well as helped with watering schedules. Had a small issue with one of the valves (manufacturing issue) and they were out immediately to repair it. Definitely stand by their work. I wish I would have had them tackle this project sooner!

So-Cal Ponds does so much more than just water features. Don’t let their name fool you — They make landscape magic! How to put into words the joy they have brought us from the work they did on our back yard? Our family wanted a complete overhaul and transformation of our yard — from a flat, grass and flagstone traditional backyard, to a Garden Wonderland. We met with various companies, but after meeting Dominic - we knew we’d found the perfect team. Instead of being daunted by the task we’d set, he and his crew were excited by the challenge. They took our somewhat off-kilter ideas and priorities, and worked with us to make sure it was all incorporated into the final plan, even helping to find a wonderful landscape designer to ensure what we'd imagined could be built. Despite the inevitable setbacks, So-Cal Ponds always found a way forward, usually better than what we’d envisioned before. This included creating an underground water reservoir to save any water runoff (including pond cleaning) to help our yard to thrive. Our previous small pond was transformed into a Koi dreamscape, big enough to cool off in during the summer heat. And our flat, water guzzling, grassy yard is now a triple level, drought-tolerant mini forest, complete with Tiki Grotto. The drip irrigation and low voltage lighting is wonderful and trouble free.
UPDATE: After the Eaton Fires, So-Cal made sure to check in and come by to get our pond back up and functioning within just a couple of days. They are a gift to our community!! -
We had the SoCal Ponds crew install a new lawn and do a bunch of other things around our house and could not be happier with the experience and results. The project was a complete transformation, and an unused lot filled with bushes and trees is completely unrecognizable, a big green lawn with gorgeous planters and hedges around it. The team -- we worked primarily with Eric and Dom -- communicated well, helped work with our vision while offering their own ideas to maximize the land. Most of all, they were really attentive to details to help protect the house and existing infrastructure. We will happily go back to SoCal Ponds for more work in the future.

So-Cal Ponds
I am writing this review to explain my dissatisfaction with the work performed by So-Cal Ponds in 2023. During the project, large stones were placed on a steep hillside adjacent to my pool without any visible bracing or reinforcement. In 2025, one of those stones rolled down the hillside and into the pool, damaging the pool plaster.
To his credit, Dominic, the owner, came to my home to assess the damage. He offered to remove the stone from the pool and relocate the stones on the hillside for a few hundred dollars. However, this did not address my main concern regarding the original installation.
In my correspondence, I explained that as a professional landscaper, it is reasonable to expect that proper reinforcement and erosion-prevention measures would be considered when placing large stones on a steep slope. These are foreseeable factors that fall within a professional’s expertise at the time of installation.
Unfortunately, So-Cal Ponds did not agree to correct the issue at no cost, and I will now have to pay out of pocket to have the stones removed from the hillside and relocated to a safer area.
I have sought legal counsel regarding this matter and have been advised that I have a strong small claims court case. So-Cal Pools customer service has been a huge disappointment with their lack of professionalism. They do not stand by their work. -
They fixed the patchy lawn by leveling soil, adding topsoil, and laying fresh grass. Suggested low-water plants for the sunny corner that keep blooming all summer. Finished the whole job in one day and watered everything before leaving. The front yard went decent and neighbors actually noticed.

Not sure what this business is like, but I just got cut off very dangerously by one of their trucks speeding on a residential street in Glendale. Judging by how this guy drives, I wouldn’t recommend the business.

Having lived in my house for over 20 years, I've worked with many contractors. MANY. I've never - EVER - worked with anyone who exhibited such consistent: attention to detail; prompt, honest and straightforward communication; daily hard work; and cooperative problem-solving... as Karen and Omar of Sacred Space Garden Design. They are - by a country mile - the most positive experience I've had working with a contractor, in both process and result.
Are they cheap? No. If you're thinking of hiring them and expecting a lowball offer and a "good enough" job, don't bother. But are they worth the price? HELL YES. They are experts and artisans. We wound up hiring them to essentially redesign / landscape and hardscape the exterior of our property. They met with us frequently. Karen visited showrooms with us. They worked up a thorough plan. And they came EVERY DAY POSSIBLE to work. No abandoning our house for a few weeks to start on someone else's property; no empty promises; no arguments. If there was a change order, they worked up a fair price for it. If we had a problem - i.e., something was different from how we had understood it would be done, they worked with us to solve it immediately and as much to our benefit as possible. If they made a mistake, they didn't argue about it, they just fixed it as soon as possible. They kept the space clean. Open, frequent and regular communication was a hallmark of our experience with them. We actually had regular in-person check-ins to make sure things were proceeding according to plan and to satisfaction.
Another metric: no fewer than six neighbors approached me toward the end of the process to tell me how incredible a job they were doing and how impressed they were with the property's new look, and asked me for SS's phone number, because they wanted to see if they could get them to work for them. Achievement unlocked: Massive Curb Appeal!
The only reason I'm giving Karen and Omar five stars is because I can't give them more. I cannot recommend them highly enough. -
Karen & her team at Sacred Space Garden are amazing!
We hired Karen & her team to do landscaping, weekly landscaping maintenance, and lighting. They did a phenomenal job on everything! They were very professional, punctual, efficient, and meticulous. We hired Karen in early November and are still using her team for weekly landscaping maintenance. They continue to do an excellent job & I am extremely satisfied with their work.
We intially hired Karen to do landscaping lighting on our driveway & front porch. We were very impressed when Karen & her team managed to completed all of the landscaping work & lighting in a single day. When we came home & saw how incredible the lighting looked, we decided to hire Karen to do the rest of entire outdoor space. This included our enormous oak tree, our front yard, our back patio, and our back yard. Karen & her team completed all this additional lighting the following day. Karen even arranged to bring in her own electrician when they discovered an issue with one of our electrical outlets. When I saw all the landcaping lighting for the first time, it literally took my breath away. It looked absolutely stunning! I feel like we're living in a beautiful resort every time I see the landscaping lighting. It was the best thing we've ever done to our yard.
I also appreciated Karen's great attention to detail in completing all of the tasks we discussed. Karen even met me at the nursery so I could show her plants & flowers that I liked. Since Karen owns her own business, we have benefitted from the great service she and her team have provided.
We continue to be impressed with Karen & her team. Our landscaping & lighting continue to look phenomenal. We are so thankful we found Sacred Space Garden. We would highly recommend them for landscaping projects, maintenance, and landscaping lighting. -
We worked with Karen and Omar of Sacred Space Garden Design over the course of two years and highly recommend their work.
Karen understood our vision and translated it into detailed designs, with the possibility to adjust along the way. We started with the front yard and worked our way to the back. In the end the new landscaping included stone masonry (curving staircase, retaining walls), travertine steps, decorative tile work, new concrete patio base, travertine patio floor, BBQ island, fire pit, gas lines, a wall fountain, wooden vegetable planter boxes as well as many, many plants & trees, new soil, landscape lighting and irrigation systems.
The communication was great and we always counted on Karen's take on all questions of design.
Omar was on site much of the time, working with and overseeing his crew, which was great for the communication.
Omars father is a master stone mason, who's skills in stone work are amazing.
We could not be happier with the work they have done from the first design to the finished landscaping. -
We need to cross City-owned property to access our front door from the street. Karen Miller drew up the plans for the new walkway and assisted us in getting the needed permit from La Canada, which was not a trivial process. When we invited Karen to bid, we had an idea of what we wanted. Karen made a suggestion that improved the look and function, updated the outdoor space and was within our budget. This is exactly the kind of help most of us need from a savvy designer! From there, Karen and the team scheduled the work, checked in regularly, responded promptly to questions and dealt with the unexpected. We are pleased with the results and would hire Karen and the team again.

My mother’s home has been in dire need of a full exterior landscape makeover for 20+ years. Over the years the yard deteriorated into an eyesore in a very beautiful neighborhood. Over the course of 2 years we interviewed a few landscape design firms, and while they had some beautiful ideas, we didn’t feel like they were the right company for this property. My mom heard of Sacred Space Garden Design through Arroyo Magazine as well as a few Pasadena Showcase Houses where they had provided a garden space design. She found their website and really resonated with the designs she saw online.
We asked Karen to come to the home so we could discuss ideas, let her get a feel for the property, and hear some of her initial ideas. What struck us after her first meeting was that she was inspired by the space. We felt that would be important to provide a top-notch landscape.
Please note, this project was HUGE. The property is a half an acre and needed a 360 degree plan. Every part of the existing hardscape was removed. Every inch of dirt on the property needed to be addressed. The project encompassed the entire front yard and driveway, the side yards, and the entire back yard. It required an all new irrigation plan/system as well as a brand new lighting design. It was not a small project.
Karen was incredible to work with. She was creative, communicative, flexible and persistent in finding solutions to elements of the project that were important to my mom. We also added an additional element in that I am located in Texas, but was helping manage the project on behalf of my mom, which meant an added level of communication. Karen was more than happy to oblige.
The landscape plan she designed was above and beyond our expectations. It was presented professionally and clearly. She has a unique process for helping to narrow down design and plant preferences with an online portal of a variety of photos that you can like or comment on helping her in her design process of creating something unique for each client.
The execution of the project was very well managed. From the start of the 9 month project there were workers on site nearly every day (weather permitting). The workers were courteous and hard working. Karen’s husband, Omar, managed a large portion of the on-site work, especially the steel work, stone work and concrete work. He was delightful to work with and my mom felt comfortable having him on site and communicating with him.
In the end the landscape that was completed was stunning, unique, on budget, and thoughtfully designed and executed. Karen and her team did an outstanding job of addressing our must-have list with great results, and were attentive to our likes and dislikes. The design has exponentially increased the value of the property and has garnered a lot of positive attention from the neighborhood. The plants that were selected and their placement are beautiful, providing different vignettes throughout the property and through the seasons. The quality of the mason work and steel work that was completed was superior. The most extraordinary part of the project is that it was designed to compliment the property and existing home almost as if it had always been designed that way, but with a fresh modern perspective. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone and feel that you would be just as pleased as we are whether your project is large or small. -
I wanted to re-do my backyard in memory of my son. Karen, Omar and the team were sensitive to my needs and built a beautiful oasis, this included a waterfall with a pond, which Omar selected a special rock for me to hang the memorial plaque, fire pit, TV screen and kitchen. Every detail was designed with my son in mind and the ambience we wanted to capture. Karen and Omar, thank you for allowing me to enjoy his spirit every time I walk into the backyard. The team finished on time, within budget and very attentive to my needs. I recommend them to my friends and family and will work with them again.

I am delighted to wholeheartedly recommend the exceptional services of Sacred Space Designs, a highly skilled and talented landscape architect firm. My experience with them, particularly with the CEO and Landscape Architect, Karen Miller, and her husband, Omar Huerta, who served as the foreman, was truly exceptional.
What sets Sacred Space Designs apart is their ability to handle the entire project from start to finish. They seamlessly managed all aspects, from beautiful stonework replacement in my driveway to constructing metal veggie boxes and completely re-designing my frontward area. Having their own trucks, skilled employees, and in-house expertise made the entire process reliable and efficient.
Throughout our collaboration, I was consistently impressed by Karen's profound understanding of landscape architecture, environmental sustainability, and smart irrigation practices. Thanks to their irrigation technique, I qualified for the city of Pasadena's Turf Replacement program, which speaks to their expertise in sustainability. Their skillful blending of functionality with aesthetic appeal is truly commendable.
Karen and Omar's excellent communication and interpersonal skills made working with them an absolute pleasure. They listened attentively to my vision and transformed it into an innovative and practical landscape design. Their receptiveness to feedback and dedication to realizing the client's vision are exemplary.
Sacred Space Designs is deeply committed to environmental sustainability and resource conservation. I was impressed by their consistent incorporation of eco-friendly design elements and locally sourced materials, ensuring their projects positively contribute to the surrounding ecosystem.
The attention to detail displayed by Karen and her team is truly second to none. From the initial concept to the final implementation, every phase of the project was meticulously planned and executed with precision and care.
Throughout the process, Sacred Space Designs managed to deliver the project within the agreed-upon timelines and budgets, showcasing exceptional project management skills. Their dedication, expertise, and passion for their work made them an invaluable company to collaborate with.
I couldn't be happier with the outcome of my landscape architect and turf replacement project, thanks to Sacred Space Designs. I highly recommend them for any landscape architecture endeavor, confident that they will exceed expectations and deliver outstanding results.
