We have a very large, challenging lot -- lots of weeds and rocks and extra hazards to work around. Juan and his team took on this tough job and did a great job all summer.

Thunderbird Design sent a work crew who faithfully delivered every item promised on the contract. They worked for 5 days to excavate, install layers of base, fitted the big stones, and filled the joints with polymeric sand for a new patio in the previously derelict space of a courtyard. The new patio looks like it was part of original construction and perfectly complements our southwest style stucco house. The job was beautifully done! Kathryn Beffa

We had another company put in a covered deck 3 years ago. Fabulous!!!! They trashed our yard; not so great. After 3 years, we realized we weren't going to get this project done ourselves. Some good friends recommended Thunderbird Designs. The Barnhills said Thunderbird came on the days promised, did the work promised for the price specified.

We worked with Adam Porter. I liked the detailed bid, and the CAD rendering of our project. NICE. They built a retaining wall, modified our irrigation system, back-filled some dirt, and took out 5 tree stumps. Two months later (mid-April) they returned to put in the sod, and even threw-in some bush stump removal at no extra cost. Cool. One corner of our yard didn't turn-out as we had envisioned. No problem, they changed it when they returned for the sod installation. The process was so easy, makes me wish I would have done this project sooner.

2 small negatives: one guy on the first crew left some cigarette butts on my property. Grrr! And the fill dirt had some rocks/trash in it. But overall a very positive experience. I would recommend Thunderbird to a friend. In the future, if $$$ allows, I would have them work on the front yard.

From the initial estimate, to design, to execution of our backyard project, to administrative details, Thunderbird Design has been nothing less than outstanding. I wholeheartedly recommend them for your landscaping project.

The process of landscaping our backyard area was smooth from start to finish with Thunderbird Design. Adam listened to our requests for the space and came up with a great design. He added a creative bridge which was a great surprise. The area was spotless when finished. We would highly recommend Thunderbird Design for a landscape project.

Great company! They took my vague ideas from our initial consultation and created a beautiful design that really highlighted the things I had asked for. Communication was fast and great. The working crew did a wonderful job, and really did things the right way. Work began when I was told, and was finished quite fast. I highly recommend Thunderbird!

They missed the final inspection and stated that their work was complete. When we forwarded the Town of Castle Rock's feedback, they claimed they weren’t aware they had to follow the Town's codes. They’ve also failed to honor their warranty and stopped responding altogether. The owner is unreachable, and you’ll be left with Amber, who will assure you someone will call back for months but will eventually block your number.

A professional company who's team members listens... Russell excelled at understanding our landscape needs as low maintenance and fitting the work into our budget... Nick & Beto excelled in implementing the design... Amber was great at communicating quickly and efficiently with billing and scheduling. We love our updated backyard.

We had a HORRIBLE experience with Thunderbird on our landscaping project in 2021. We worked with a friend on a design for our yard and shopped around to places that would execute an outside design. Thunderbird said yes, and we moved forward with them. We sent them our very detailed plan about 6 months before the project began and they got us on the books for the following summer. Unfortunately, when it came time to execute the plan they were terrible to communicate with and were unable to complete the job. We got an email the night before planting that they couldn't source all plants from the one nursery they prefer. We stayed up all night that night sourcing plants from 3 local nurseries - it was stressful. After that, they told us we'd selected too many plants and they didn't want to do any planting. So they ended up completing only the hardscaping part of the hardscaping/landscaping project and left us to find another landscaper to finish the job last minute. They did an okay job at the hardscaping but it was not to the plan and they never discussed deviations with us when we were home all day. Luckily, we did find another company that was able to take over and did a great job. I could give a lot more details on just how bad of a company they are but please if you have a big project like we did (~50K) DO NOT WORK with them. We talked to the owner about the difficulties and he mentioned the real problem was that they were trying to execute someone else's design. I understand that, but they should have never taken our contract to begin with. Instead, they took our contract, our money and then told us months later through weeks of high stress conversations and me personally making multiple drives to nurseries and supply shops in Colorado for supplies they would need that they shouldn't have taken the job.

    Overall frustrating experience

We hired Thunderbird for a small backyard patio job. Rip out an old wood deck and install a flagstone patio. We had discussed having the crew replace an old wood arbor with a new metal arbor for a mature grape vine. We asked that this portion be added to the contract and were told they would take care of it and it was such a small thing that they didn't feel it necessary to add it to the contract.

The crew came, installed the new patio and did not install the new arbor. The portion of the new patio where the arbor would span is too wide to accommodate the arbor.

We have reached out to them to see about returning to fix this issue and were told that we would be put on the warranty schedule and have not heard from them since.

This was a small job that seemed pretty straightforward. The communication was great during the sales process but non-existent once the work started.

We would not recommend Thunderbird Landscaping.

We had a new and existing patio installed with pavers and new irrigation installed by Thunderbird. The Crew was very polite and worked hard. The design and workmanship was great. Price was competitive with other companies however Dustin was outstanding and patient in answering all our questions up front through email and phone. Very responsive and would highly recommend.

We are very pleased with the stone landscaping border wall that Thunderbird Design created for our yard. Their work crew took great pride in the construction of the border wall, and it shows. The entire Thunderbird Design crew was professional and very responsive throughout the project.

I would highly recommend Thunderbird Design for any of your home improvement projects. They installed a new paver patio for us in addition to removing our old deck and adding some landscaping. They were great at communicating along the way, stuck to the timeline and budget they had previously discussed with us and the crew worked really hard and kept things tidy as they went. On top of all of that their prices are really reasonable and allowed us to update our backyard without breaking the bank. We'll definitely be using them again for any future updates!

Our experience with these incompetents does not deserve a rating (-$K?). The sales/"designer" sold us on a "design" that was mistake on our part to agree to ("drainage, drainage, drainage" must have been a joke), not spotting the clear incompetence. The crew arrived and the management was gone leaving the crew to install R's "design". The door bell rang 10 minutes later from a non-English speaking crew questioning the "design". The project was left to the home owner to redesign on the fly with the "designer" not answering messages. A call to the owner of Thunderbird did force the sales/"designer" to respond and he did eventually come out of hiding with a totally unprofessional, hostile attitude. This "designer", who is likely no longer employed, did not want to discuss his "design" (CYA). Buy from these buffoons at your own risk and plan to buy a second project from a competent paver company.

I can't say enough about how pleased I am with the work done by Thunderbird Design. They transformed my backyard from a place where I didn't want to spend one moment in to a wonderful space for me and my family to spend time together. The design, workmanship, service, and follow up were all outstanding. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Thunderbird to my friends and family, or anyone else for that matter who wants to invest in a beautiful landscape project for their home.

The whole team at Thunderbird Design was wonderful. From the initial phone call, to design consultation, to the work, and follow up, every person was polite, professional, and prompt. The design was exactly what I wanted. The work crew worked hard each day, cleaned up the yard at the end of every day, and made sure it was what I wanted. I would hire them again for my next project!

Thunderbird was great from start to finish! Dustin and Amber were great with communicating and explaining the project, and keeping us up to date. Nick was great to work with on site, and the crew was the best and did a wonderful job. I would highly recommend them for your project!

Thunderbird recently completed a landscaping refresh for us with the addition of a putting green. It all came out beautifully and we were very happy with how the crew worked with us to get what we wanted.

I hired Thunderbird in 2022. Russ did a nice design, and the crew did a great job. The project was a major overhaul of my backyard. My yard looks great. I give a three star because of the poor communication with me and between Amber, office manager and Blake, project manager. When I called or emailed with a problem, they never called or emailed me back. I always had to call Amber back- no exceptions. Amber did get someone out, but only after I had to follow-up. At times she would say Blake will be there but he didn’t show up. Or he would show up without a text or call. I would ask that he alert me when he was coming, but no text or call. Finally, not sure Blake really understands installation and troubleshooting irrigation problems. I had two areas in my new sod that were swamps. Blake initially came out and thought it was from so much rain, so we reduced watering, but still swamps. This went on for about three months with no improvement and a worker was sent out to do one ineffective fix after another. My dog got very sick and vet said it could be from rank standing water. Finally a worker said “broken heads- fixed it and no problem since. This seems obvious, so didn’t understand why it wasn’t discovered for three months? The irrigation system was a problem and it leaked inside the wall the first winter. Blake jerry rigged it, and it made through winter of ‘23, but in January ‘24 it exploded and flooded my basement. I had reputable blow out company each Fall. A plumber came and got the gushing water off, installed new piping to get me through the winter, and said the way it was installed it could never be blown out- drained fully. I emailed Amber in early spring, and heard nothing, again, until aI called her. Blake came and decided to bring a plumber who installed new additional piping, admitted it wasn’t installed correctly, and they reimbursed me for the plumber I hired. I look at all the positive reviews, and can’t help but think that the problem may be Blake. He is a really nice guy, but needs to work on his knowledge follow/up and communication. I would hesitantly recommend Thunderbird, but with a different project manager, and only if Amber improves her communication and responsiveness.
