Concrete Contractor reviews across the US
-
I had a concrete patio poured by Earthscape in May 2015. It cracked in several places and a piece came out of the step by mid July when I walked on it.
I contacted Earthscape almost an annoying amount to get them to come out and look at it. A direct quote (no corrections for spelling made):
"I took a look. Im not going to leave you with a broken patio...ill come back this week and see what i can do.
I had 3 patios in a row crack ...you guys and <<NAME REMOVED FOR ANONYMITY>> are 2 of the 3...and its all related to the new saw we got to cut them...the cuts werent as deep as normal.
Ill touch base next week and see what our option are."
They did not touch base nor did they stop by.
My emails went on until November when I got the response "We have had great weather and are still working...sorry i havent responded faster.
Every contractor will tell you its concrete and it cracks.
We plan on adding crack joints, crack filler in existing crack and re sealing"
He admitted previously that his equipment was faulty, and then stated that it's the nature of the product to break.
He still didn't come to do any of those things.
Winter came and went and I contacted them again this spring. I really, really wanted at least the gouge fixed. The response... "a hairline crack in concrete...it is concrete in wisconsin...its going to happen at some point.
I do understand the urgency and will make sure we get on it asap when nice out and down the road in later april or early may."
By this time, I had no patience left at all and I asked him again for a specific date. I had already taken off of work several times when they had planned on coming. May 16th was no different. Still, they didn't show up so I emailed yet again asking for the owner or some other competent person from the company that could rectify this situation to come the next day.
The owner and another gentleman came today while I was home. They looked at the patio, didn't knock and then left. I got this email as a response.
"So our competent people stopped by....myself included and I am really unsure what you want done.
The hairline crack is not an issue....concrete cracks...its an issue or warranty if you have heaving, separation or it buckels...you have nothing like that...its just a hairline crack...that's what concrete does."
As for the step it looks like you dropped something on it or a chunk is out, that we can just touch up with some sealer to blend in....which we did already.
The rest of the patio looks great....if you want other professionals opinions you can get them."
If they had told me last year that they had no intention of doing ANY of the things they told me they would do, I wouldn't have continued to waste my time.
As a note, I have had numerous other concrete projects done by other contractors (full driveways, garage slabs) with NO cracking. We drove trucks, parked a 7000lb sailboat, and snow blowed those other works of concrete with no damage.
Earthscape can be felled with a pair of 3 inch stillettos. Go figure. -
Made our old, muddy dry lot look like new. Scraped out the old and brought in tons of new gravel. Spread it out nice & even and packed it down.
Super to work with and reasonably priced.
Definitely plan to use them again! -
Nick and his crew are a very professional, talented, fun group to work with on any project! They have great vision, arrive timely, work diligently, and clean up after themselves. I would have them back in a "heartbeat" for any additional landscape projects!
Thank you so much! -
This guy sucks, no communication once he has your money he is GONE. Did a poor job on part of my install. Said he would be back to fix. That was 2 months ago. Tells me now wants to charge me. Promised 2 weeks ago still a no show. Poor attitude tells me don't worry about it the grass will grow over it. If you are reading the reviews you can see most are about crappie jobs. He does not care about customer service. He will take your money and run. LOOK OUT FOR THIS COMPANY.

If you can avoid using this company, please do so. Nick does nothing but make promises and never deliveres. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a small business. Within weeks of having the landscaping done, we had weeds growing on top of the weed barrier. They had used dirty rock for the landscape and when it rained, the dirt filled in on top of the weed barrier and the weeds grew like crazy. On top of that, there was no grading away from the house, so the water would pool in the landscaping. We gave them numerous opportunities to correct the problem. After over a month, Nick sent some kids over to add rocks. (As if that would fix it!) Eventually I eventually contacted another company to fix the landscaping and deducted it from earthscapes bill. They went back and forth with me and after a month finally accepted the difference between their bill and the cost to fix it.
Do not use this company. Nick has no idea what he is doing and will promise everything, then never deliver. -
Very Friendly staff, however no follow-through. I had an individual (very nice and knowledgeable guy) come out to my property so they could quote me for the work. Over a month later, and after several attempts (at least 4) of me trying to contact them via phone and text, I finally received a quote but it did not list all the work that was discussed when the individual came out. I will not be going with the company in the future and should anyone ask for recommendations, I surely will tell them my honest feedback about the quality of customer service I received.
Update:
Please see the screenshot of the actual email sent to me with the date and quote.
Original date coming out on the property: Sept. 30th
Quote Received: November 12th for $1,500 -
I reached out to Earthscape to get some work done in our culverts. All along it felt like they were ready to help, could keep within budget, and would be providing some ideas to help with the project. Week after week I have had to follow up with them to find out where we are as far as next steps. I kept hearing that I would get info on scheduling, ideas sent, and NEVER had a response without me asking what’s happening. Granted this is a tough time for many but now I got an email back basically saying this won’t work for them anymore and to look at other contractors. Super disappointed with the follow up from this company and now I am starting from scratch. Poor communication all around.

I contacted Nick after moving from Indiana and seeing landscape curb used a lot more down there. Nick was at our house ASAP and signed a deal right away, he is a GREAT guy and affordable......Nowadays it seems people are only worried about the money and not quality, well I have to say that is not the case here.........I cant wait to have our landscaping done and guarantee even without the job done that this job will be perfect!!!!! Thank you for such quick action, and looking forward to you guys working at our home coming up soon......Matt & Kari....Janesville Wisconsin:)(:

Nick and his crews were awesome to work with. Quick, thorough, and provide a great product. Our nephew even stepped on the freshly laid curb just after the crews left - Nick had someone out the next day to repair. We love our decision to install the curbing, and use Earthscapes!
-
Nick promised he'd obtain the specific brand and color release we told him had been used in the patio we had previously installed, so our curbing would match. Then on the day of install the crew knew nothing about it and of course did not have the color. "Oh we can still match it with the stuff we have" they promised. Total fail, the color is very different. Nick dodged our requests to make things right. He's a scammer and will tell you anything to make a sale. Don't bother with this company.

Love my new patio!! Perfect design, perfect pour and perfect landscaping around. Can’t wait to spend my summer nights relaxing in this new space.

Quite possibly the worst business / contractor we have ever hired. Not only did the owner threaten to not come back and finish our job after cashing our check he insisted on a "new" contract which he also failed to uphold. Don't even get me started about his scheduling. I have lost count of how many times he has said I or one of my crew will be there at 9 am or similar and have never showed. Twice he claimed that we were lying and that his crew had already been to our house and finished the project. He insisted that we send pictures and still did not believe us even when it was quite obvious the curbing had not been sealed. If you value your money or your time I would recommend going with a different company now being 5-6 weeks in to this project we certainly wish we had.

Our front yard needed a "facelift" ... after 20 years, the landscaping had become "tired". Earthscapes had been recommended to us by a friend. We were going to be out of town for an extended period of time so I just asked Nick to come up with a plan and use his best judgement. The plan and the finished product was great. Nick sent us photos when it was done and was prompt in returning phone calls and completed everything exactly as promised (and even a little bit under the estimated cost!) ... Thanks Nick, we've had several complements on the front of our house since the completion of your work!
OK, 5 years after we did a small project in our front yard with Nick, the back yard was ready for a big facelift. Happy to say my experience this year (June 2018) was the same as 5 years earlier. The project turned out great. Nick's crew was very professional, did great work, cleaned up ... couldn't as for more ... now, several evenings each week, my wife and I sit on the back screen porch and just admire how great it looks ... Thanks Nick and all the folks at Earthscapes!!!! Marty and Terri Lang -
Worst company I have ever dealt with. We were supposed to meet to go over the plan a few days prior to the start of the project. That never happened. On the day of the project I left work to meet the owner Nick. When I arrived he was not there. It took multiple calls to get ahold of him. He said he would be there in about an hour. He was already 45 minuets late. I told him I left work to meet him. He told me just lay down a hose and they would take care of it. I received no call when they arrived and no call when they left for the day. When I returned home I found that my daughter had caused some damage. This could have been 100% avoided. If only I was contacted when they were done. On top of that the color was wrong. We had sent Nick pictures of the color we wanted. Nick stated “we can do that”. When I questioned nick about it he stated it will change as it dried. It never changed. It took them 3 months to come back and seal it. Then had the nerve to send me a 90 day past due statement two days later. Nick stated he would come out to repair the damage my daughter had caused. It is now 5 months later and multiple calls and texts and still no Nick. From the looks of other reviews this is not uncommon. I warn anyone that is thinking about using this company. STAY AWAY!!!!!!

We recently used Earthscape Curb & Mulch to refresh the mulch in our perennial beds, cut out the grass under our evergreen trees, and refresh our landscaping stone around our foundation. I can't say enough about how great this company was to work with - from the original phone call for information, to the walk-through and estimate, and the final services. The crew arrived on time, was personable and skilled, and left our yard looking better than ever. Thank you, Earthscape! You've earned our business for years to come!

We had Nick do our curbing 8 years ago and it still looks great! In fact we loved it so much we had nick and his guys do a patio for us last fall. Our patio turned out better then expected and is so beautiful. We have been enjoying it this summer. We had a few things that needed fixing and they came out last week and got it done. Thank you Nick!

My yard looks fantastic. They were able to take my "vision" and turn it into reality. Three of my neighbors have already commented on how nice my yard looks. I felt that I got a very fair price for the work preformed which included removing 6 tons of white rock, expanding the rock area, laying the curb, installing 14 tons of new rock, and re-leveling and re-seeding the front yard. I was amazed at how fast and efficient the crew was. Based on my experience, I would recommend Curb and Mulch.

Great company to work with! We hired Earthscape to pour concrete curbing around our entire house. They had great communication throughout the entire process, made suggestions as to the shape of the curbing, and made sure the work met our expectations. They continued to follow up after they were done to make sure everything was finished to our expectations. I love the final product and would recommend it to anyone.

Nick came out to bid on a patio for our backyard. He rescheduled once with us, no problem. Talked to us about options and different ideas based on the circumstance of our backyard. We thought he was great and very knowledgeable. Told us he would get the estimate to us within 24hours via email. Nothing. I called repeatedly to see if he maybe wrote down the email wrong. No return call, no email. He knew we were headed out of town and wanted to make a decision prior to leaving. Gave him the benefit of the doubt, headed out of town thinking that upon return we'd find a quote. Nope. Emailed him to see what was going on and still no reply. 2 weeks and no contact from Nick. Not a good way to run a business.

Had someone out to measure and give an estimate for curbing and a new driveway (not a small job) and by Tuesday the estimate that was promised had not arrived and when I called and spoke to nick he had no idea who I was yet they came to my house. I understand that mistakes are made but rather than apologize and send someone else out to measure and get me a quote they were combative and told me to go somewhere else. He wouldn’t return calls but would text. They clearly don’t want business and clearly from their reviews aren’t very reliable. Be warned.

My wife and I had Earthscape install concrete edging around our landscaping. We got the idea from our neighbor who was having edging installed. We selected a color, however, when installed it was the incorrect color. Found out from our neighbor that their color was incorrect also. Earthscape blamed in on a bad batch of concrete. They came out a applied a stain to the concrete that came closer to the color we paid for.
Two years later the stain is chipping and fading. Contacted Earthscape to check it out. They said they would come the week of July 5 to check it and reapply a sealer. It's August 3 and they still haven't shown up. I don't think I would recommend them to my worst enemy.
