Home Builder reviews across the US

We purchased a spec home and have been pleased with the professionalism, workmanship and response from JTB Homes. We are very happy with our home!

This is the second custom home my wife and I have built. We had a very good experience working with JTB and their warranty service has been outstanding.
-
In a world of rising prices, JTB has worked to keep their costs affordable while maintaining quality. I enjoy working with them and am proud to sell their homes to clients.
-
I love working with JTB Homes!!! As a Real Estate Agent who has worked with many different builders JTB Homes has a very organized system and their finished product is far above the rest!!!
-
Poor/lazy work ethic, extremely unprofessional on the business end. I wonder if the builder knows how these “realtors” talk to prospective clients? Perhaps they have so much business that they can afford to treat people terrible, refuse to answer any questions or come up with any coherent answers. If you want to be ripped off, treated like you’re a waste of time and rushed into signing a contract, this is the place for you.

We had a wonderful experience buying our JTB home. They were thorough and great to work with. It’s a well built, beautiful home. Thank you JTB.

I used JTB for a new home build in the Ravines subdivision. This is the 3rd time I have done a new home build. I would recommend Roersma and Wurn before recommending JTB. All of the time spent going over blue prints is a waste of time since they are not followed. One of the reasons I went with JTB was the sign off of the blue prints figuring it would make the process easier. You are charged a fee plus the cost of the change if you make a change if they make a change oh well that’s just the way it goes. I found the communication during the construction process not what I was told it would be, getting a response when there is an issue was more than difficult. The biggest area of trouble was with Weber Electric, they are not required to follow the electrical blue print at all changes are done in the name of the electrical code. Why would someone be asked to sign off on the electrical blue print if it wasn’t to code? I even called the township electrical inspector to make sure the changes were not needed for code. I don’t feel like this is my home, it’s the electrian’s that is how many changes were done some of them making assumptions on how we would live. I have yet to have someone tell me how a plug behind a bedroom door in the two feet of wall space before the closet door was required by code let alone the third plug between the kitchen sink and stove. They also cannot install the multiple switches that work one light so that the switch is down on all of them when the light is off. Some are that way but some are not. They had to come back after close to fix something. - they were rude and arrogant plus they didn’t do anything but make a mess. When doing the selections make sure you have a selection page for each room in the home and make sure the words match the picture, I was missing the Michigan Room page and the words did not match the pictures which caused problems. I had times the words were the official selection and I had other times it was the pictures. I had a cabinet name for the laundry area and second bathroom that was no longer being used and I asked about that before signing off and they would not change it. The railing picture did not match the words and the fireplace mantle was supposed to match the railing, the mantle is going to be painted to match the railing. Watch the pricing, I decided on an entry way light that was not one of the selections and when I was given the up charge it was more than the cost of the light. I did not want a full deck from my Michigan Room and every time we reviewed it during the blue print review the price changed it got to the point it was less expensive to do a full size deck and stairs than just a landing and stairs. I decided to do a patio and it was supposed to be 14 x 14, but they put two feet under the master bedroom overhang so it’s actually 12 x 14, JBT did actually pay a small refund for the missing two feet but that was after I said I would not close until that was resolved, I cannot imagine anyone paying for two feet that cannot be used. The shutters are the wrong color even after the dirt is removed. The house was still dirty when I closed. The yard is a mess, there is still a board used to form the patio and another one by a section of sidewalk. According to the warranty I cannot change the grade, but based on what I see the back yard does not look like it received a final grade. The day after close which was the day before the movers the inside handle fell off the door leading to the garage, I emailed right away about the problem and what was going on the next day, a Friday, they came on Monday to fix it. My last issue has to do with the bathroom mirrors, towel bars or hooks and TP holder. I decided to install my own and those items were supposed to be left in the basement and they were not. My daughter said it best - she noticed the lock for the deadbolt was not on straight and she said that the front door is a person’s first impression of your home shouldn’t care be taken to make sure it was on straight.

We loved every step of building our home with Interra. We are so happy in our home now, with no surprises, issues, or concerns. This is how building a home should be. The Interra teams were helpful and responsive every step of the way. We keep sending other Interra & JTB houses in the neighborhood to our friends too.

After living in our new build for two years now we have had nothing but issues- water in home, poor hardware installation, garage door issues, cabinets falling apart and much more. When building a new home with a custom builder these are exactly the issues you don’t want to run into. We are frustrated daily with the quality of our home.

I'm not even sure where to begin. We bought our JTB home brand new in fall of 2020 and from the start we have had nothing but issues. When I first called about the nail pops in the basement and crooked ledge by the basement windows i got the run around and was told the person in charge of warranty issues quit. Finally after a few months they "fixed" the nail pops meaning a guy came over with a hammer and hit them back in leaving marks all over the walls and he didn't even get them all. The ledge was never fixed. The humidity control panel was never installed properly. I had to do that out of pocket. The fireplace has had nothing but issues which again i had to fix out of pocket. We have had water in the home due to the ridiculous sump pump they put in, the dishwasher which wasn't installed correctly has led to water damage. The shower tiles in the master bathroom are already coming loose from the floor. Some cabinet doors in the kitchen have large gaps. Im really starting to wonder if the house was built by a high-school woodshop class. JTB just dosent do quality work nor do they care. I would not recommend this builder to anyone.

Very disappointed with the process!!
This was supposed to be an exciting time as a newly married couple, instead we had unexpected changes, work not being completed as agreed upon and surprise costs.
The Tibbe Home quality and warranty team are exceptional and we have nothing but good things to say on their behalf, however the level of service & follow through from purchase agreement to closing was unacceptable. We had several issues surrounding closing and it seemed like every day there was a new charge or fee we were not told about prior. Super stressful!!They did not keep their word initially and it felt very dishonest throughout the process. We question the integrity and would not recommend based on this scenario.
We do love our home and the neighborhood, let’s make that clear. Our frustrations exist from the sales process only. In the end the sales Rep and Realtors tried to make it right and conceded a few minor items after closing due to our inconvenience however this was not equal to the issues or challenges we encountered. It felt we were constantly given excuses rather than the offer of a solution or help. This is a business and they are supposed to be the experts. There should be processes in place if an employee is out/unable to work or if a vendor is exiting. We shouldn’t feel the pain of that.
In summary- they hold all the cards and know it! It ultimately feels that this is the largest purchase of our lives and they do not care about us as a buyer or making the process smooth. It was solely a business deal for them, they did not care about us as people. -
My parents just bought a JTB home and what we thought would be a smooth process has not been. Their customer service is terrible and that doesn’t go a long way when your quality control fails as well. There are so many issues to list but to say the least my husband and I are no longer considering them to build our home nor will we be recommending them. They have truly been a horrible team to work with. My parents have been treated poorly and have not been taken seriously from the start. We all wish they would have gone with someone else.

Good experience building with them. We feel like we got a great value with our build and good quality overall. Wouldn't hesitate recommending them to a friend. Great model for financing as well. One piece of advice, be smart about options you select and try to think long term about the things that would be harder to change down the road (windows, layout/walls, plumbing, etc.).

It has been a pleasure building our new home with JTB homes. From the start, everyone has been well organized and informative. The process from deciding to purchase, to design planning, to starting the build has felt seamless. We are really impressed with the options available to truly make our home our own and really enjoyed being able to see it all come together in their beautiful design studio! We actually had thoughts about doing our next home design with a custom builder, but we are so glad we went thru with JTB homes and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Solid company to work with. Good communication, organized jobs, and fair expectations.

Our home is beautiful, aesthetically, however, functionally, we have had more issues in 6 months than we ever had with our 15 year old home that we owned for 4 years previously. We have had 2 leaks (one requiring tearing up the flooring in the upstairs bathroom from a nail in our pipe), AC issues, had to have our driveway completely tore up and redone, issues with our hood vent making noise, shaky floorboards, among many other cosmetic and structural issues that we dealt with at closing and shortly after. All of the issues that we experienced can easily be fixed, however, working with JTB on problem-resolution is basically a full-time job to follow-up and their responsiveness ranges from subpar to non-existent. It seems that JTB prioritizes profitability and not the customer experience or quality of the home, as reflected with our experience - as soon as we closed on our home, it seems like we were an inconvenience any time we have an issue (which is often). We have had people in our home fixing something on at least 15+ occasions since January.
On top of the issues we've had with our home, the amount of disturbances and inappropriate behavior that goes on in the neighborhood with having construction workers there every day building houses is excessive and disruptive. Construction workers gawk at our 19 year old nanny, play loud music, walk around shirtless, get into altercations with one another, use profane language, walk through our newly hydroseeded yard, speed through the neighborhood, etc., etc., etc.
I would never recommend building with this company - we have friends that have built homes with them as well and had the same experience. It doesn't seem as though they do anything correctly. -
I am extremely disappointed in the most recent experience we had with JTB as we were looking to build our second home with them. The new reality company (Ginger Baxter Group) is terrible. We had lots of questions on the Fallasburg property in Lowell and were told many different things on what was included in the price. We were told our current floor plan could be built, but then my husband found on their website that the floor plan was being updated. He asked the realtor about this in a panic because we were assured we would be able to build our current floor plan, and then suddenly they told us they wouldn’t work with us. Apparently, we had too many questions and weren’t going to be manipulated into a a huge investment. As a second time buyer I expected much more and have to agree with the other negative reviews.

JTB was very professional and flexible. They kept us updated on construction as things went on, which was appreciated. The home, during our walk through, looked great and they did great work! Our design sessions were fun and the designers were very helpful.
For future builds, I would recommend JTB provides more clarity around closing/finish dates. Our initial expectation of completion differed from the actual completion, which is perfectly fine, but an anticipated completion date would have been helpful to share (even if it is still flexible). -
We bought a new construction build from JTB Homes. Very happy with the quality of the home.
It seems well and solidly built. It’s incredibly quiet inside; the only thing I hear from the outside are the birds. I can tell they were thoughtful in their floor plan and design. The layout flows nicely and is congruent.
We appreciate them already installing radon piping. Our inspector did a radon test and found levels that were not dangerous. But radon levels can fluctuate over time. If they become high in the future we only need to do minimal additional work to neutralize the radon. If they didn’t install this, and radon was high, we would have had to install it ourselves and that would be a cost and potentially cutting through a part of our basement.
The walk through with the builders before signing was appreciated. They took the time to explain how to take care of our house and answered any questions.
We also like their openness after purchase. They let us know to not hesitate to contact them if we have any questions or if anything breaks under warranty. -
We love our JTB Homes condo at Woods of Albright in Grandville. My wife and I moved from the only home we'd ever raised our family in for the previous 25 years. On top of that, we had zero experience with condo living nor new construction. John Brenner our superintendent couldn't have been more professional. He communicated often through their mobile app sending me messages and photos as the build moved through the process. Anthony and Dory were great during the design phase. They were flexible enough to still build their unit but still allow us to do things like move the laundry room, customize our walk in closet, and make our master bath our own. I was very anxious during the process as it seemed like such an unfamiliar thing and such an investment; leaving what we'd know for so long. But now having lived in our home for about six weeks, we love it! A week or so ago my wife commented to me how she feels like she was meant to be here! What else can I say? I recommend JTB. Call Connie their listing agent. She's very nice.

We built our dream house with JTB Homes, and we love everything about our home. Our superintendent, Todd, was very easy to work with and always had our needs uppermost in mind. The process was easy, the quality was top notch, and JTB completed the build BEFORE their original estimate. Highly recommended.
