I don't normally do this although felt it was important to let people know about this company. First the owner Nelson is very nice and promises the best outcome. Reality is he is not nice in fact very disrespectful, especially to women once the project is underway. Finds excuses for poor workmanship and why he can't do something correctly. And the workmanship is not good, not even close. Definitely not worth the aggravation. No stars.

Had Nelson come out to discuss a project and was feeling very positive about working with him. Then, he completely ghosted me. Never received my quote, never received a response to me reaching out. The arrogance and disrespect of wasting my time needs to be called out.

Phenomenal customer service and communication; we would hire Sonin Construction again for even bigger projects in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.

Timely response to my initial inquiry for a front porch rebuild, quick estimate, quick job completion, good work, good communication and customer service.

Will have the company do more work for us in the future.

Sonin construction was great to work with. They completed a complete demolition and rebuild of my front porch and side stairs. They were quick, efficient, and easy to communicate with. They answered any questions I had quickly with email, text, and/or phone. When I had questions about the contract, they were quick to go over it with me and assuage and confusion. Overall, I was very pleased with the finished product as well.

Sonin construction did an excellent work! The workers were very professional and focused on the work. Nelson gave me good advice about the project and how we can expound on it so we can save money in the long run.

I had my old crumbling cement porch taken out and a beautiful covered porch built. Nelson is very responsive, and the whole thing was done in record time, thanks to the crew who worked very hard and very long hours (and I was fortunate my permit was issued quickly and the village inspector was available when we needed him). Some minor adjustments had to be made when it was finished, and they were done really nicely and quickly.

Can not say enough about Nelson and his amazing crew! They created a small kids room for us in a matter of days! They showed up every day on time and never left a mess. Beautiful work and even custom matched our 100 year old trim. The room looks like it was always there. Sonin gets a 5 🌟 rating from me.

Nelson and his crew performed an amazing work at my home. I got my basement finished, adding an office, TV room and restroom. They were fast, highly professional, quiet and clean throughout the construction. I got also a deck installed in my backyard that looks amazing. The price was fair and the time estimate was respected. I highly recommend them!

I highly recommend Nelson Ameer at Sonin Construction. He recently completed a complete bathroom remodel in our Oak Park residence. We are very pleased with the results in terms of the design and functionality. He communicated with us very well and kept us up-to-date and didn’t make it any more complicated than what it needs to be. Nelson took our designs and concepts and made some good design and construction recommendations. Price was competitive and half of one bidder who wanted to make the project more complicated than it needed to be. Project was completed on schedule

My experience with Nelson at Sonin was negative and is based on only working with Nelson to the point of contract and not the work itself. The first thing I’ll point out is that on these review sites you’ll see 100% of the reviews give 5 stars and that is because in Nelson’s contract none of his clients can leave a public review less than 5 stars. Keep that in mind as you’re evaluating him. I did not sign the contract, so I am free to leave my truthful story.

I received several quotes from contractors and from the short meeting with Nelson thought he’d be the best to do the work but his price was a little high. We discussed and he matched the next closest quote and I told him I wanted to move forward. He had a 17-page contract that I began reviewing. Through reading the document I realized there were many cost unknowns like who is buying building materials, who’s buying paint, etc. When he came out for the quote, he mentioned he would buy these things and gave me a list (not in the contract) of what I would be responsible to buy. Since this was a 17-page document it clearly said he wouldn’t be liable for any additional cost not mentioned so I wanted to clarify this before signing. Just as I began asking these specific questions to him over the phone he abruptly (after confirming he was able to talk freely) said he had to go and would call me back. That was the last time I heard from Nelson because he never called me back. In the following days I sent him a several text messages and have been unable to contact him. We ended up signing with a different contractor.

In my opinion, Nelson is going to get you to sign a contract at any rate you’re happy with and then creep in additional cost throughout the process. When I asked a few clarifying questions it brought this to light and he went running for the door. I would be very cautious signing a contract with him knowing this is how he may operate.

Great Experience getting a back deck added on. Nelson was quick and communicative. He stopped in multiple times a day to confer with the subs who were also very professional. Was able to understand my vision for the space and even had few great ideas of his own we ended up implementing. Construction went non-stop until the job was completed, and he even came by a few weeks after to make sure everything was settling correctly and made a few adjustments. Would absolutely use Sonin again.

Working in real estate development, I’ve had a lot of interaction with contractors. Sonin Construction is by far one of the best! Nelson, the owner of Sonin, provided me with a quote for replacement of my back deck. His bid came in lower than two others I had received. Even better, he was able to start the job within two days. I had a beautiful new deck installed within four days of receiving an estimate. Nelson is local (Oak Park area) which is a plus in case there are any unexpected issues. I will definitely hire Sonin for future projects - you should, too!!

Absolutely fantastic work by Sonin Construction! They put in a new support beam to open up our living room, dining room, and kitchen for an open concept. They also extended our hardwood floors into the kitchen and refinished all of our hardwood floors on the first floor, including a few repair spots. Everything looks amazing! Nelson and his team even worked through the holiday to be finished before we moved in. Nelson is always prompt to reply and very easy to work with. Looking forward to using Sonin Construction again in the future!

Our flat roof developed a leak. Sonin constructed a deck on the roof 2 years ago. We asked several times for them to come look at it. Morgan reminded me that the work was out of warranty, and we would have to pay for any repairs. We okayed that, and were told Nelson would come to look at the issue. Still no follow through.

We recently did a gut renovation of a bathroom with Sonin and we had a marvelous experience. Nelson and Morgan made the process very straightforward and were very clear in their communication, cost estimate, and expected timelines.

The crew was great and worked hard to make our vision come to life. They kept the rest of the home clean and showed true craftsmanship on the job.

The final outcome is amazing and we are so happy that we went with Sonin. They are going to be our number one option for contractors/builders going forward.

I’m so glad we went with Sonin to redo our main floor bathroom! We changed the existing layout and updated everything - tile, vanity, fixtures, etc. They did a great job! They were super responsive and worked quickly and efficiently. Their cost felt really reasonable, especially for how great the final product is. I would definitely recommend Sonin, and we would definitely use them for any future projects.

Sonin (Nelson and his crew) did an awesome job in remodeling our house, originally build 100 years ago. The scope of our project included redoing all siding, re-design of main entrance, changing windows, painting inside, and fixing ceilings since we also updated lights in the house, and removing all big bushes in front and back yard. All was done in around 4 weeks (which was less than planned) with multiple teams working at the same time, but all coordinated for not affecting other team’s work. Everything was within planned budget, which gave us margin to solve couple issues found during the project since this is an old house.
Nelson was with us the entire team, giving lots of ideas about the design, and materials to use considering our personal taste, preferences, and budget. He always kept a straight and open communication and we always felt protected, and didn’t have to deal directly with other contractors involved. The result was just amazing and we highly recommend.
