Home Services reviews in Ankeny, Iowa

Earl May sets the standard for creating the ideal place to shop . I bought all my trees & plants over the years there and last night we bought a Xmas tree there. Ryan wrapped it and tired it to the SUV for us. Every time my wife and I are there we receive outstanding service. Without hesitation They have taken care of any minor concern we have had. Ryan's great leadership from the front certainly sets the store Culture that every one there no matter what position is committed to the customer. As a Retail mgr myself I know how incredibly hard that is . its all about people and the Ankeny Earl May is the example all businesses should follow

I was really impressed with their selection of house plants. We recently bought a few from Home Depot, and the second we walked in to Earl May I wished we hadn't bought those. Such healthy and well taken care of plants, we almost bought more. We were looking at plants for the yard for next spring and decided we'd be back here for sure

April 21st at 6:35, dirty woman's bathroom, no TP in second stall. I cleaned for 20 years, shame on you cleaning person!

I purchased a tree 9/21/2023 and paid to have it delivered and planted. I was told they were down to one person to do the planting and it would take approximately two weeks. Waited until 10/23/2023 to get my money back due to the fact the tree had not been delivered or planted and below freezing temperatures were in the forecast.

While the staff knows the information, all the indoor plants I’ve ever gotten here have died. I’ve gotten many others from different locations and have treated exactly the same and those have been thriving. Also don’t buy their Early May brand soil here, I had the worst fungus gnat infestation in a golden pothos I bought from here and tried to fix it multiple times only to find out it was the soil that was infested. It was a fresh unopened bag.

I brought in my grandpa's 20+ year old dragon tree, not sure what to do with it or how to help it. They were so knowledgeable and repotted for me free of charge. I'm so grateful!

The flowers looked healthy and the service was great!

I love this place and the wonderful selection of plants but it was very upsetting to see that today a manager was treating an employee in such an unprofessional manor. These two wonderful girls were helping me out with some plants and giving advice and then, I assume, a manager came up and started to verbally correct them for one of their uniforms of all things right in-front of me. The poor girl was just wearing the wrong shirt on the wrong day but was still in uniform. Amazing place with great plants but I hate to see management bully such great staff members.

We purchased Amish-built patio furniture from this store and to our surprise it was the best value in the metro. On top of it they delivered the furniture to our home for free! Store manager Jadyn is amazing!

I have always had good luck with the plants that I've purchased from Earl May. Great little place to shop for the perfect gift!
-
One star rating just for the prices alone. Over $1,000 dollars for a fake Christmas tree. Outdoor patio furniture well up over $1,500.00. we priced a lot of items and mind blowing what they charge. Not sure if going out of business and trying to make some money off of 1 sale or what. To rich for my blood. I can see why this place was dead I thought it was closed up when we pulled in.

Very very knowledgeable, great selection and customer service is excellent!

All staff masked, friendly, and very helpful. Great selection of indoor plants in excellent condition. Outdoor fall container plants picked over and sparce. Note to self: next year shop in early September; don't wait until early October!

I just had an absolutely fantastic experience with Lyndsey and Allie! They were not only incredibly knowledgeable but also super friendly and courteous. They really took the time to understand my needs and suggested the perfect trees for my space! I ended up buying four beautiful trees, and now I just wish the corporate team had more staff available to help with planting them.
Their showroom is spotless, which shows how dedicated they are to their work. It's evident that I made the right choice spending my money there, thanks to their hard work and professionalism. Keep up the amazing work, team! You truly rock! -
Love their plants

Best service in garden center today I have ever had.
-
Good selection, good return policy, still not as good as an actual nursery though.

Im proud that they have a combat veteran parking spot. The only place in iowa ive ever seen this at. However with the garden center open in the parking lot and the size of the lot plus the idiots driving in it i almost got hit on foot 4x in the time it took me to walk to my car then almost got hit in my car 5x in the time it took me to exit the lot. If ya'll ever get the chance expand the lot and fix it too!!!

Worst customer service ever!!!
Here is the situation, my parents ordered 80 bags garden soil and 60 bags mulch. They were supposed to have it delivered on Monday the 10th and it was purchased, paid for and delivery scheduled the week prior. The store literally sold the product that was already purchased and didn't have any basic customer service skills even to notify the customer that they were not getting their purchase.
The original purchase was at ankeny store to be reserved at the Urbandale store where it was in stock. This location originally sold the product that was paid for so it was transferred to the Ankeny location.
The Ankeny location received the order transfer. And promptly changed the delivery date without notifying my parents who took off work to receive said order.
My mom finally called after wondering where the order was and was told pretty much too bad so sad deal with the new delivery date. It had been sold because they were having a sale. Pretty sure selling product to someone else that has already been paid for is illegal.
So we get to the reschedule now more time has to be taken off work especially with their vague it will be delivered sometime on the 11th.....
My mom is disabled so they were to bring it into the garage which was scheduled ahead of time. She stated she was not going to be home and didn't want it piled in the drive for her (she is disabled) or my dad (who has a torn rotator cuff injury) to deal with.
Their solution. Leave the garage open for the day. I mean. What?! Not in the nicest neighborhoods would I leave my home open!!!
Their lassie faire attitude and absolutely no care for customers and lack of service recovery is appalling.
If they would have mentioned their mistake in the first place it wouldn't have been an issue. Their attitude for the issue is the worst I have ever seen. I will NEVER be shopping at Home Depot again. Especially when they sell things you pay for and you end up getting the shaft. -
I'm just about "done" with shopping at Home Depot. Had two really bad customer experiences lately.
1. Got just a few items (about 5-6) in the Garden center. There was only one cashier, the line consisted of an older guy, myself, and a mom with kids and 1 item. The older guy was ready to pay when the cashier asked him if he wanted to apply for their credit card and started explaining all the benefits. The guy was confused but interested because he would get a $25 store credit. He said yes. Instead of taking him to customer service, or giving a form to complete off the the side, apparently they have to tie up the cash register and apply RIGHT THEN AND THERE, standing in line, using the credit card reader. Either the cashier was ignorant or there is no way to delay the transaction. No "why don't I just help these two, they only have a few items." Between the sales pitch and the application, we stood there about 10 minutes while this cashier and guy did his credit card application. My time is valuable too -- that's just unacceptable. Figure out a different way, Home Depot.
2. My wife went in to buy a few things and brought in a custom board to have cut (they will cut your wood for you as long as you're doing business there). The employee barely spoke to her (seemed like he was having a bad day), then did such a sloppy job that the cut was about a 1/4 inch off the line we had made. Thanks a bunch. This was wood left over from the finishing of our basement used as trim, and we had just barely enough to finish a patched spot. So now we either live with a 1/4 gap in our trim, or take a couple hours to find, buy, and stain exactly the right wood, all because a grumpy employee couldn't take an extra 15 seconds to adjust the saw properly.
The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because they do have a pretty generous return policy, have some harder-to-find items on the web site, and generally have free delivery and haul away on appliances. But I think I will only shop there in the future for the occasional big purchases. For the small weekly purchases, no point in going to a place that doesn't value my time. -
Can always find a good variety of plants to buy. The cashier was very kind and patient helping me with gift card that wouldn't work and she found a way to make it work!!
