My favorite garden center in DMV!!! You can find all kinds of high quality plants indoor and outdoor that you may not find in other garden centers.

Excellent prices and great service. The Plant Clinic has been very helpful over this past spring with assisting with ways to help my vegetables grow with the low sun levels. It's such a wonderful place to just stroll around and look at all the different plants they have in stock. Especially getting to see the bees and butterflies busy at work pollinating!

Although the plants may cost more here than the big box stores you will find SO much more variety and in better shape by far. They also have one person you can ask on staff that is knowledgeable about many plant things or can try to figure it out. They can identify plants and their problems. Note if you bring in samples they must be done in a specific way in order to prevent diease spread in the nursery. I forget how your supposed to do it but call and ask. I think it waa something like take a small sample bag it wash your hands well. And bag the item again. You want to trap any spores that might be on the plant sample for example. They were able to identify that we had a fungal diease due to having a hemlock tree near by. (Which we cut down due to issues). I really appreciate the 1 year return policy. I feel more confident buying more plants and more valuable plants.
They have a selection of small small rocks, seeds, supplies to choose from as well for your needs. They have items for fairy gardens, tropical plants, succulents, fruiting bushes of multiple varieties per fruit (thank you!!!) And more like privacy trees etc. Here is a photo of a camelia from Merrifield this spring.... -
Largest garden center I've ever been to. Staff is great. The selection was amazing

Love love love this garden center. This was the largest; but, from what I was told this now the medium sized garden center. Well let me tell you it is far from small or medium sized.
Everything you need for your gardening, greenhouse, or house plant needs you can find here. There is plenty of help to answer all of your questions. The pre-made planters and hanging baskets are exquisite.
This center is easy to get in and out of, and there is plenty of parking. -
I’ve been searching high & low for a Hindu rope plant. I avoided coming here initially because a friend of mine had a bad experience. Ha ha I’m walking, I noticed how beautiful this place was. You can truly stay here for hours. It’s a really relaxing place to be. I go towards the house plants section and I was so happy to find the plant that I’ve been looking for. I immediately reach for two of them. Upon reaching for them I noticed some thing on the plant….mealy bugs. I was extremely disappointed, but that’s all it took to deter me from buying any of the Hindu rope plants. They were all grouped together & I did not want to buy and bring hope a plant with pests that may affect my other plants. This made me question the condition of the other house plants and how attentive the staff is. I will say that they did have some other unique plants that I have not seen anywhere else. Another thing I noticed was the charges for repotting plants. Why should there be a charge when we purchase a plant? Especially with how expensive the plants are there, I think repotting should be free. Maybe, it’s a Northern Virginia thing, but other nurseries that I’ve been to repot plants for free.

We were shopping for a live cut Christmas tree and we could not find many trees in the area that were full and had a really nice shape. So we went to Merrifield Garden Center and found a very nice tree. That is the good news. The bad news is that it was about a $150 that is twice as much as The Home Depot across the street. A kind of felt like being gouged at Christmas. All of the prices of the items we saw seemed incredibly expensive. Capped off by a 11 foot Christmas tree that was $895!! Wow. Really? $895?
If this review was helpful to you, please give it a thumbs up! -
One of my favorite local stores to go to. I absolutely love the gift shop, especially when it's decorated for Christmas. A great place to buy gifts and spend some time browsing.

Just an all around great place. We are here vacationing and I found this place on Google maps. Based on the reviews I decided to visit. I wasn't disappointed.
A wonderful selection of plants, planters, wind chimes, just a wonderful selection of goodies.
A bit pricey on some of the plants but considering they all looked in excellent condition, I would have paid it.
Unfortunately I was too busy looking at everything to remember you get many photos. -
It was expensive. I needed a new pot for our large Monstera, new dirt, I had found some seeds to plant in a couple of weeks.
They have a huge greenhouse with lots of stunning flowers and cacti. -
This is my absolute favorite place to buy flowers, trees, and shrubs. They are knowledgeable here and truly roll out the red carpet-- they make each customer feel so special. They have such an impressive selection of herbs and flowers as well. And if you are into fairy gardens, you are in for a real treat.
Of note, Autumn, at checkout, was incredibly kind. There is nothing not to love about this place. ❤️🌷🪻🌻🌾 -
Went here with my boyfriend for a garden center date and was not disappointed. Got a beautiful thai constellation! I’ll definitely be back once it gets warmer.

Pretty wide selection of plants. A little pricey in comparison to other garden supply stores, but staff are friendly, helpful & informative.

Living in NYC, I didn’t know where to start looking for a reputable garden center in Fairfax. Two calls to other retailers were unsuccessful. Then I found Merrifield Garden Center. My call was answered by Laura. I explained this was a special request for a sad occasion. I wanted an assortment of flowering outdoor plants, repotted in one container and delivered. She understood what I wanted and immediately connected me with Jeff. He quickly understood what I was looking for, made suggestions and pulled it all together. Not only that, but he went the extra mile and texted me photos of the flowering plants he had suggested, the pot, and once I approved it, got right to work. Upon completion, he sent me a photo of the beautiful finished product!
The service here was incredible; they were fast (whole process start to finish less than 1 hour), kind, helpful and extremely efficient. (I wanted to include a gratuity but it was graciously refused.)
Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly recommend Merrifield Garden Center, Laura and Jeff. The absolute best! -
The guy at the information desk was extremely rude and raised his voice at me while handling my return. They processed it wrong, and I had to come back to fix it. Merrifield Garden Center is hit-or-miss—some staff are helpful, but others are flat-out rude.

I used to love Merrifield so much. So much, that I made it a point to go when I was visiting my parents. Merrifield was where I bought plants when I first started out with houseplants, and I’m grateful for that. However, when I purchased three hoyas from Merrifield in March 2022 for $80, they all had mealybugs. I had quickly checked for them in store and didn’t see any. But when I got home I saw several on one plant. I figured I’d take care of it and go on my way. Then a few weeks later I noticed mealybugs on my Hoya carnosa compacta bought the same day as the other. I figured I should check the third plant again and found out all three of them had mealybugs. I am still dealing with these pests. I sent an email to Merrifield and never heard back. If they had replied and were apologetic I’d probably forgive them, but no response? That’s bad customer service and unacceptable for somebody who spent $80 on sick plants. These pictures are from only one of the Hoyas.

I found this place by accident thinking I was going to the one off gallows rd but I think I prefer this location more. I've been there a few times now and they have a great and healthy selection with very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable staff that put up with all of my questions. It's a bit dangerous for your wallet though, not that things are unreasonably priced but because they are so you just wanna get everything!

We replaced a tree with the help of Merrifield. Unfortunately I picked the wrong tree - it didn’t match the others in a line up. The crew and tree were in the driveway before I realized my mistake. The crew called, ordered the correct tree and , within an hour, the correct one was delivered and installed.Seamless for us - extraordinary customer service! Thank you and we will definitely use Merrifield for all yard and garden needs. Thank you!

There is something quite magical about shopping at Merrifield Garden Center. As a native Virginian, it's held a special allure my whole life. I bought my baby girl's very first Christmas Decoration in the Christmas shop in what must have been 1990 or 1991 when it was much smaller and more modest. Over the years, we have made MGC our first stop when in need of plants for the inside or outside of our home and always visit the Christmas shop.
In addition to shopping for house plants and outdoor projects at Merrifield, I also support their business with my business. Our real estate team's landscaper, Mr. Mow, buys plants and mulch for all of our listings at Merrifield, probably about 35-45 times a year.
One of our big personal home exterior projects was creating a lounge area under a big tree we have in our side yard. We had so much fun shopping for rocks--big rocks--as well as buying the stone we needed to build our large coffee table and firepit there (second picture). Merrifield had all the stone delivered to my house in about an hour after we made our selection. It was amazing!!! I planted a fern/shade garden amongst the rocks and, you guessed it, bought all from the garden center.
On a recent trip to the garden center, I was sad when I found they had dwindling supplies in their green house--understandable with supply chain issues of late. I found a plant and planter I loved but noticed the leaves on the plant were a little spotted. Undeterred, I decided to move forward with the purchase of the $35.99 8" swiss cheese plant, knowing I was taking a slight risk if it should die. When I got to checkout, I asked if I could have a small discount on the plant considering its condition.
The lovely cashier, finding my request reasonable, called a manager over--tall guy, maybe his name is Michael?--who really responded super quickly with a decidedly stern "no" when asked about a discount. It was such a moment! A 10% discount, $3.60, would have gone so far at that moment. The moment was extended when he made a few additional condescending comments suggesting I didn't know anything about plants. I was left feeling bad about myself and disappointed with the manager (the lovely cashier gave me a 10% discount anyway and should be applauded for saving the day).
So really, Merrifield Garden Center is an exquisite garden center which I love so much. A little of the magic has been been extinguished for me but I'll still go. I just hope the managers don't take that relationship for granted because that would just be so sad. -
Decided to stop in after seeing their gorgeous Christmas lights display, and this place exceeded any expectations I had! The facility is absolutely beautiful, and with all of the Christmas trees and decor, it feels right out of a Christmas movie! Definitely stop by, whether for wreaths, poinsettias, plants, trinkets, to check out the beautiful displays, or for the free coffee and popcorn. Staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable as well. All in all a fantastic experience!

This is probably my favorite garden center in the area! They always have some cool plants but they've been raising their prices a lot recently. I think the price of indoor plants just really skyrocketed dueing COVID-19 but I can't get myself to buy a 4" neon for $25. Even if they're very pretty! I still got a a very nice and full snow queen for $6.99 which I was very happy with. I also got a rattlesnake calathea whoch didn’t last very long in my house. They also have a nice collection of pretty pots- lots to choose from! The staff was also very friendly but I did ask for help to get one of the hanging baskets because I couldn't reach it but the lady never came back and I saw her helping another customer. Oh well! Saved me some money because I ended up not getting it. Still worth going in and taking a look at the pretty plants!
