Literally sitting in the parking lot at Merrifield Garden Center (my garden partner and my go to nursery in DC area). Have been here often and top to bottom they are knowledgeable, caring, polite and fun. Yesterday my partner wanted a specific flower and color. She called the nursery and was assisted by Alex B and Lisa V who answered the phone then personally fulfilled the order (including that the exact color was at another of their many nurseries and suggesting he get those delivered and that they would go perfectly with some in stock. I was told to come by the next evening and ask which I did and indeed everything was here. Alex was off today yet another of the checkout staff walked with me and helped load the six additions to our breathtaking (thanks to Merrifield) garden. From flowers to landscaping to bird baths and fountains, go spend a day there. It will allow you to create yiur own Eden of contemplation. Merrifield management (thank you Mr Hobart and Mr Warhurst) keep up the good work. With staff like Alex and Lisa you can't go wrong. Let them know they have risen to the challenge from a regular and exacting customer. Bravo!

We lost an Arborvitae and were looking for a pair to flank a stand of 3 mature ones. Two arborists said I'd find the best stock at Merrifield. They had LOTS of emeralds to match mine, in all sizes. I got 2 good looking trees, about 6' tall, delivered. I'll plant them myself, so although I considered larger ones, I got the biggest that came in plastic pots for easiest moving and handling.

This garden center is probably one of the largest I have ever been to and I probably visit at least once a week walking away happy.
Pros:
1) Their customer service is immeasurable. They are always willing to stop what they're doing to help someone out or find what you're looking for. Many of them are experts and know what they're talking about. In addition some are part of the larger gardening community and will tell you about gardening groups and how to sign up for community gardens in the area.
2) As I already mentioned they are one of the largest garden centers i have been to. Not only is their selection large but they have great quality as well. From perennial flowers, to shrubs, and trees. They also have a small section dedicated to aquatic plants.
3) They have a large greenhouse that has plenty of indoor plants and bonsai, as well as tools and materials to start your own bonsai.
4) Top quality products such as soil and mulch. Many different plant containers, garden decor and more.
Cons:
There is only one con, but it's miniscule. Their prices are slightly higher than I'm willing to pay on some of their plants, but with all of the positives I'm most often times willing to overlook it. Plus they will have seasonal sales where items are discounted. Plus it goes towards supporting a local business. -
We love this place. Diane, Liz, and Meryl are extremely helpful and spent ample time with us to help make decisions. They’re the best. I couldn’t imagine a better garden center

Expensive but you will find the perfect plant and with educated nursery people with seach engins to name plant problems. They have free popcorn too.

11/10 the most AMAZING and extensive garden center i've ever seen. They have EVERY plant you could think of and everything you could possibly need for your garden. I get my potting soil from Espoma here as well as soil amendments, nursery pots, and many different plants for various purposes. This place is HUGE, so i'm sure you could easily spend hours just looking around. They have lots of services from fresh cut flowers to custom soil blends, and they are always friendly. The plants I have gotten from here are in great health and have been well taken care of before coming into my care. I highly recommend this place!

Extensive and healthy selections! Free popcorn and water was a hit with the kids. All the staff that we encountered were super friendly and asked if we needed help.

This place is AMAZING! I’d only been to the Merrifield Garden center in Merrifield but I took my girlfriend (who loves plants!) to this one and we were both blown away. The greenhouse is beautiful and peaceful and has what feels like an endless variety of plants. So well manicured and curated and the staff was very helpful and kind. We bought several plants for my grandparents and will absolutely be returning.

Update late summer 2024: planning for landscaping and the folks at the center are a godsend for their knowledge about plants. We've got a ton of good information and some homework before we come back and scoop up some plants to spruce up the house. Five stars, what a great crew.
Update spring 2024: lilac bush I bought last year is about to bloom and I'm freaking out. I love this place. Just went back to check out their starters for my garden.

Everyone should have plants. Start a garden. Buy some flowers. Learn to compost. Eat food you grow yourself.
The Garden Center is one of my favorite places to go, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, prices are decent, there's cool stuff all around you, and the flowers smell really nice. I bought another lilac bush because it reminds me of my parents' house, and I can't wait to see it bloom. I recently learned they have a water feature building, so I definitely see more trips in my future. This place is up there with Home Depot. -
Love this place! It’s like the plants heaven. I love the decorations area especially for Christmas. Staffs are always friendly and attentive. You can just window shopping or spend a quick 30mins. Every time I come here always ended up buying plants and spend hours just looking and deciding what should I get :)

My second time here. They have a huge selection of outdoor plants and a decent indoor plant selection. Unfortunately I think they price stuff keeping in mind the richer folks in the area. For example, a 5 inch white wizard philo was like 70$. Thats just absurd! Noticed a few others that were priced high like that. The other negative thing was that they didnt have a lot of rare plants. But the free popcorn and coffee are nice things to have. The planter selection is pretty good as well but again, not cheap at all. I ended up buying a Marble King and a planter.

Always my favorite place to walk around and admire the plants and flowers. They always have a great indoor setup with lots of really cool decorations for your house that are plant themed. They've also expanded their kids section to include gardening tools and bug catchers for kids! Very fun! And we never leave there there without a bag of popcorn 🍿

The Santa experience here is stellar! They have a charming space decked out in holiday decorations upstairs, and Santa reads books, sings with the kids, has a "press conference" where he answers questions, and then does individual photos and visits with the kids (photos are with your phone, not a professional photographer). I really loved Santa and how tuned into the kids he was (he even referenced KPop Demon Hunters & 6-7, he knows his stuff which of course he would); he also had some wonderful messaging about making good decisions, his "nice" and "naughty" list, and helping others. There's also snacks and some fun activity sheets. I was really impressed with the whole thing, especially at the very reasonable price point compared to other Santa events in the area. The whole family will enjoy the rest of the store set up with beautifully decorated trees and other Christmas decor. Loved all of the tree displays, but especially the Wicked one this year! Thanks, Merrifield Garden Center, for bringing so much lovely Christmas cheer to our holiday season!

Great people working in the garden center - very knowledgeable about plants on sale and not pushy at all. Prices are a little on the premium side but then the plants and products are of equally higher quality. Sometimes some perfectly looking plants are on sale, can’t beat those prices!

Merrifield Garden Center in Fairfax is one of the best in DMV. The collection of landscaping products is truly amazing. The staff members are friendly and knowledgeable. I learned how to reseed my lawn properly with good advice and guidance. I strongly recommend purchasing plants, flowers, garden decorations, and lawn maintenance products at the center. It’s a great experience to visit the center as a tourist - the center is a beautiful garden in its own right.

Merrifield is my go to for Christmas decorating. I know, I know, it’s a garden center - but there is more than just plants! The designers at all of the stores are aahhhmazing! I am always inspired by their ornaments and gorgeous Merrifield Bows - my favorite ribbon they carry is D. Stevens, once you have bow of this quality you won’t want anything else!

The garden center is expansive and offers an impressive collection of flowers, flower pots, and garden decorations. The items for sale are beautiful and plentiful. However, the prices are outrageously high—about three to four times more expensive than similar items at Home Depot or Lowe’s. While I might return to buy some exotic flowers, I definitely won’t come here for regular flowers or pots. For garden decorations, I will shop at their nearby competitors.

While we have found some of their pricing expensive we have also found that their expertise and direction is very worthwhile as they assisted us patiently finding what we wanted in the labyrinth that is the Merrifield property. Real gardeners for real gardeners.

I really really like the experience here because the staff is helpful and there is complimentary coffee and popcorn so it makes it easy to spend over an hour here. It's definitely on the pricey side but the variety and quality of the plants is better compared to what you see at some of the big box stores. I am entering my old man era so I'm starting to appreciate plants so much more. I spent most of my time on the indoor plant area. If I went outside I would have spent another hour or two there.

Our family’s most enjoyable Christmas tree selection experience was today at Merrifield Garden Center in Fairfax. Thank you Mike! You embody what the holiday season is all about for everyone.

Just shy of overwhelming with indoor plant options. Plant heaven. Front exotic orchids, to carnivorous plants. Picked up this adorable sun dew carnivours terrarium--ill put it in a slightly bigger terrarium for better growth and potential bugs. As well as this beautiful orchid that was new to me--Cheyenne Marie Pink Ice--that is wonderfully fragrant. I travel through a couple times a year and its always a stop to see what new babies im going to adopt.
Thirdly was this pony tail palm i got back in April. I dont have an updated photo of it, but its leaves are twice its size since this photo was taken.
Happy happy guy 🥰
