Really easy to work with, prompt for appointments and sent helpful plans and visualizations so we could know what to expect. We had a simple paver patio to do and they made it easy and completed it in two days!

The paver crew was outstanding and did a fantastic job and I would highly recommend them. However, the fence crew job was below average and John, the project manager, lie left me with a disdain for First Impression Hardscapes. So, I would recommend their service only for paver work and tell you don’t count on First Impression Hardscapes to adhere to their warranty after the work is performed.

First Impression Hardscapes completed my backyard brick patio in 2015, and returned now in 2021 to complete a garden box using the same edging for my front yard. Both times the outcome has been fantastic.
I would note the communication was better in 2015 than now in 2021, but demand for contracting work has exploded since COVID began which is an understandable reason. Overall, given their professionalism, focus on customer satisfaction, and most importantly the quality work, I would highly recommend them for a landscaping project. -
Had the group replace a gravel parking pad behind my home with permeable pavers - they took the lead in securing a DC city credit for the work and did an excellent job installing the pavers - very satisfied with the work. Price was very competitive with the other quotes we received.

Excellent and professional work - First Impressions installed a blue stone patio for us that was about 24x17 in our back yard. We live in Maple Lawn MD. They did the work exactly how we wanted it. Very easy to work with and good communication. I would recommend them.

After dealing with a lousy contractor doing a botched job on my pool patio, Mike not only fixed all the errors but he generously followed the previous contractors work giving us advice and guidance. They’re work was far superior to the previous work that was done. They were on time, clean and communicated the job along the way. I would highly recommend giving him a call if you need any hardscape.

We were very happy with our experience with First Impressions Hardscapes. They came recommended from someone in a facebook post I made when looking for a good contractor to redo my parking pad, which was falling apart concrete. They were also on the list of reputable contractors for the permeable paver program in Washington, DC, so we decided to get a quote. Dustin came out right on time and surveyed the area and talked us through the process and recommendations. He drew up a design for us that very same night. We went through at least 6 different designs with Dustin until we got it just right, each time he took our thoughts into consideration, made changes, and adjusted the quote. We had his email and cell phone through the whole process and he was very quick to answer all of our continuous questions. Once we decided on a design and set the date, John came out and marked off the area, and his crew was there the very next morning. They were slightly behind schedule due to a weather issue so they came out on a Saturday to ensure they finished our project on time. We made a last minute change that Saturday and John came out to help us incorporate this. The end design was beautiful, impeccably done, and we appreciated the amazing quality and excellent service. I would highly recommend!

I highly recommend First Impression Hardscapes (FIH) because of their high degree of professionalism and work quality, and in-line costs. I worked with FIH in Spring 2023 to redo a smallish, enclosed rowhouse backyard (remove driveway, old fence, and shed, add a patio, add a fence) and am thoroughly impressed with the work for the following reasons:
1) Professionalism. The FIH team was outstanding from design to the build. The design person, Dustin, listened to my goals and proposed a great recommendation for a tight space, and then worked through multiple revisions to nail it just right. Unlike some other contractors, Dustin made a rendering *before* I signed a contract so I could visualize what I would get. When the team showed up for the work, the site manager, Jose, was highly experienced, great to work with, incorporated design-changes on the fly in response to unexpected issues, and helped minimize disruprtions to neighbors. The broader team showed up on time every day and worked really hard to finish a fairly sizable project on-time. And it was not a small two person operation - there were at least 5 people on the project each day.
2) Work Quality: FIH is the real deal - and the work did not cut corners. 2 weeks later, I am very happy the quality, starting the materials used. They use solid, high quality and attractive patio materails, quality wood for fencing, and hardware that seems like it will last (I.e. hinges, gate handles). They pay attention to detail and precisely cut stone, so it fits just right and looks good - and don't cut corners and just jam in squares/rectangles off the pallet. Second, they bring in real, professional, construction equipment to get the job done; it's not unloading gravel out of a pick-up truck, they use dump-trucks, bob-cats, and roll-off containers. It is a high-quality, serious, professional operation.
3) Cost: I received 3 different estimates for my project, each was similar which makes me think there is just an industry rate. The price I was quoted also was what I paid at the end - there were no upcharges. FIH seems in line with other contractors, but given the professionalism, work quality and attention to detail, and speed - I had a great experience and would absolutely work with them again. -
I would like to thank First Impression Hardscapes & Mike Walters for working so closely with my wife and I in helping us design and build our new patio. From the very start Mike was a true professional. He took the time to understand what our vision was for the project and gave us some great feedback. Mike then put our vision to paper with a design and then there was nothing left to do but build it. I would also like to thank Mr. John Morgado and his crew for doing such a wonderful job on the construction. He and his crew showed up on time every day and finished the project 2 days early. They kept a clean job site which both my wife and neighbors appreciated. We are so pleased with the work and are looking forward to showing it off this spring. First Impression was 1 of 3 bids that we got and their knowledge and professionalism made the decision easy. I would recommend them to anyone. Thanks again.

After many years, my patio was in need of a redo. It was sinking and the stairs were falling down due to drainage issues. First Impression totally relaid, configured and added an additional lower patio. The patio was graded to allow for water runoff. New pavers were matched perfectly and a granite edging was installed. From beginning to the end of the project, I was totally satisfied. The crew arrived each day at the designated time. Seven men worked steadily until the job was completed. The supervisor was courteous and very anxious to please us. We were working with a landscaper at the time and they were most anxious to have your name for referrals. Highly recommended.

First Impression Hardscapes did an incredible job installing pavers for a large project at our home. They replaced our driveway, front walkway and porch, and backyard patio and walkway. They also installed a stone fire pit and outdoor lighting. We are very pleased with the craftmanship and quality of the work as everything turned out beautifully. In addition, the customer service was outstanding. Christopher did a great job designing the plans and Jose made sure the project was completed correctly and on time. They both are very accessible, patient, and answer questions and respond to requests immediately. I highly recommend them.

First Impressions has done two projects for us and we have been very happy with the results of both. They do really high quality work at a very reasonable price. They worked with us on the designs of both projects to figure out something that worked well for our property, was within our budget, and looked great. Our drainage issues have been solved and walkway and parking pad look great. I highly recommend them.

We highly recommend First Impressions Hardscapes. Very professional and great communication. We had a dry stack retaining wall installed and we have no complaints. It is absolutely beautiful! They actually started the project earlier than quoted. The crew arrived everyday promptly at 7:15am and some days didn't leave until after 6pm. They even did an extra small job and completed it timely. We will definitely use again and recommend.

Our neighbors referred us to First Impressions, and we're glad they did. They were super responsive from the first consultation right through the completion of our new patio. It looks fantastic! The crew works hard and pays close attention to detail. This wasn't an inexpensive home improvement project, but they offered a competitive price and definitely delivered on value. Highly recommend, and we'll definitely hire them again for additional work.

The First Impressions team was great to work with. They took my messy sketch on a piece of graph paper and turned it into a reality. Our patio could not have turned out better.

First Impressions built an amazing patio for us. Completely changed our backyard. Very professional. Chris took the time to understand our dream and work within our budget. Jose and the construction crew did an efficient job. 5 days from groundbreaking to completion with thunderstorms in the middle.
-
A pleasure to work with every step of the way. Chris was quick to get multiple proposals to us, and was able to revise them based on our feedback. Jose ran the site the following week and made a few tweaks to the plan to get us the most bang for our buck and we we're very happy with the results.
-
Did a really nice job with the project which included re-bricking our patio and installing a new hinged fence. Will use them again for future projects! The fence is level - it looks slanted in the picture because our patio is sloped to align with the alley.

First Impressions were outstanding and did an amazing job. The crew they sent were polite and professional. They paid attention to the details of the job. I highly recommend First Impressions from the sales rep to the installers did an outstanding job.

These guys are the best. My project took a while to come to fruition (all on me) as we worked through the design, budget and a global pandemic. Chris was great as we bounced around ideas, finalized the design and helped me navigate the rebate program from the county. When the crew showed up to begin the job I was amazed at how efficient they were. They were polite, showed up on time, did great work and were able to knock out this entire project in just 5.5 days. I could keep on going but the before and after pictures speak for themselves. I won’t hesitate to hire them from another job and neither should you. Highly recommend!

Stick with hardscapes and you'll be pleased with the result. The First Impressions crew worked long and hard on hot days to get the work done. We're mostly happy with the hardscapes that were put in place.
We had them replace the driveway, demolish a sunroom, install a patio, replace the back porch and walkway, replace the front porch, and replace the fence. It was a significant amount of work that was done.
The issues we had were with communication and making sure the crew installed something we would be happy with. We were never presented with a full design plan before work began. We only had the initial proposal, which contained the layout and scope of work. We were not given brick/stone samples until the crew arrived and started work. We had to let the crew know what we had agreed upon in the contract as to the materials and designs.
Because of the pandemic, we are working from home, so we were able to keep track of what was going on. This turned out to be good, since there were things that we had to clear up as work went on. The step into the house was not included in the plan, and the crew was not planning on doing it. We only found out because we overheard them discussing whether or not they should do it because it would add to the amount of work they had to do. Good thing we have someone that speaks Spanish in the home. After we contacted someone, the step was included as part of the work.
They began work on demolishing the front porch and did not take care to cover the storm door, or let us know beforehand they would be starting the work. We had to stop them and rush to cover our door with cardboard. Our brand new storm door now has scuffs and scratches.
They definitely oversold the abilities of the company to perform all the work we contracted them to do.
Part of the work included demolishing an outdoor sunroom, which required tuck pointing the brick afterwards. This was done horribly. The "tuck pointing" uses a different color mortar than the rest of the brick, and doesn't even have the same profile. There are still outlines of the old sunroom that was removed.
The fence quality varies along the length of the fence. No care was taken in making sure planks were straight and undamaged. Screws are misaligned and missing. Cuts are not straight. One of the gates is not the same height as the fence. The concrete around the fence posts was poured badly and is a mess in some places.
Part of the work included replacing the columns on the front porch. This was done badly, and unevenly. From afar, it looks nice, but up close, it's awful. There are gaps between boards and visible holes.
There was little quality control for the final product.
The patio/driveway work was part of the DC Riversmart program for permeable pavers. We were misinformed about the amount of the rebate we would be receiving, and got $420 less than what we thought we would. While this is not a huge amount, it is still significant. This was due to miscalculations by the designer. We were told we should have gotten the full amount they told us, but were left hanging after several emails. We calculated the amount of the rebate ourselves and determined we were given wrong information. We didn't even receive any apologies for the error.
We've brought up the fence issues of damaged planks, missing screws, and short gate height to First Impressions. We got a response saying they would see what they could do, but we haven't heard from them since.
It doesn't seem like they stand by the quality of their finished work. We're hoping we don't have further issues as time passes.
