Our project came out great! Our contractor Mike always did what was best for us and the house. All the workers were professional and considerate. They worked with an engineer to fix our wet crawlspace. All new beams and joists and insulation. So much better now. Highly recommend. Thanks yall.

McDonald recently completely an 8 month renovation/addition project that was on time and on budget! Ed, our project manager Shawn, and the rest of the crew were great to work with. They were very communicative and they listened to and addressed all of our concerns throughout the project. They worked extremely well with our architect.

McDonald Contracting did a complete renovation of our ancient second floor bathroom and added a completely new first floor lavatory. Their work was quick, efficient and far above average in quality. McDonald employees and subcontractors were very easy to work with and immediately addressed any issues and questions we had. They were also exceedingly clean. I felt like I was in very good hands and would have no hesitation hiring them again.

We worked with McDonald on a large project (~7 months) after buying a new home. They built a new bath and office, made the basement useable, updated another bath, painted and stained everything, did built-in bookshelves and some other custom projects like dog-proofing the fence and adding gates to the front porch so we could keep said dog out of the road, redid the electrical systems and added central air. Like I said, big project.

From the outset, they made us far more comfortable than any other contractor we talked to, in large part due to Ed McDonald making sure the quote was comprehensive such that we knew every element of what would need to happen.

There were a few hiccups along the way, which I think is inevitable for a project of this scope, but at the end of everything we have a house we love and a contractor we’d come back to. Whenever an issue did come up, we were able to quickly discuss and make a plan to get to where we needed. They were more than fair on cost and left us with a great final product.

We particularly loved the folks who worked on electrical, plumbing/HVAC, floors, and carpentry. Would recommend working with McDonald!

McDonald Contracting did a major renovation for us - 2nd floor gut renovation, addition of two rooms, plus exterior insulation and re-siding of the entire house. While it took a little longer than expected, it turned out great. We've been very happy with the results. We really appreciated the transparency in their pricing quote which was reasonable given the scope of our project. They are very friendly, easy to work with, and their plumbing, electrical, and tiling subs do high quality work.

I've used McDonald Contracting for the past few years for snow removal. The team really goes above and beyond - Ed always texts to see if I need snow removal, and sends a team out in a timely manner. The teams are excellent - efficient, effective, and they do a much better job of clearing snow than I could ever do. I plan to continue working with McDonald Contracting now and in the future.

We had an excellent experience working with McDonald Contracting from start to finish.They built new cabinets and a beautiful bar area, created a custom closet and bench, and also added new electrical outlets and light fixtures throughout our space.

The entire process was seamless and professional — communication was clear, timelines were respected, and everything was handled with care. Most importantly, the craftsmanship was truly outstanding. Every detail feels intentional and high-quality, and the finished work exceeded our expectations.

We used McDonald Contracting several months ago to do a major remodel to a 150 year old house in Melrose. It was a very complicated project. Steal beams had to be installed to support some of the sections of the house. McDonald had to work with our architect and structural engineers to figure how to get the beam in place. There were months of other planning and meetings with Ed McDonald and our architect to figure out the logistics of the entire project. At first meeting Ed I was a little nervous because he’s such a young man and throughout the job there were some misunderstanding and time delays but one major take away was Ed’s level headedness. I can be a tough person to deal with having been a lisensed electrician since 2004. I know a little about the industry and worked on residential construction sites for most of my career. The electrician sub contractor that worked on our project. I have recommended to my own family that’s how much I was impressed with them. Most of McDonalds subcontractors were excellent. Like I said earlier the project was difficult and needed to be surgical with the installation of dormers and detailed cedar shingles to match. They use top quality materials and craftsmanship on siding, finish work and framing was all done extremely well. Our house has custom molding on ceiling also outside trim work has decorative molding on the outside that McDonald took time to match. My wife is an attorney and is the most organized detail oriented person you will ever meet. We did have to stay on top of them with schedule and time lines but for the most part McDonald was always reachable. They never not answer the phone when we called always made things rite never cut corners. I would definitely recommend them. Like any contractor it’s like a messy relationship You love them in the beginning halfway through you fight with them and at the end you can’t wait for them to leave. It’s a complicated business Ed McDonald and his crew handle it very well but bottom line they are good people trying to accomplish your construction goals
