Reviews of local pros in Franklin, Massachusetts

We hired Lyon's Landscaping after a referral from a friend whose yard I had seen transformed by Alex and his team. We had a beautiful retaining wall with stairs put in, as well as had a lot of the trees and brush from our backyard removed, then leveled and seeded. We have a whole new backyard!

I have done a lot of business with reputable companies, however I have never experienced such an unprofessional business in my life. Some of the workers are rude, and Alex Lyon himself is very disrespectful and unprofessional . It cost me a lot of money with Lyons Landscapping to have the front of my house beautifully designed. A few weeks after the job was completed, 4 plants died. Alex told me to wait, refused to back and look for himself. Now after a year and 2 months, he still will not honor the 1 year contract. Offered my free mulch and edging at the end of the season! Will not refund me for the 4 plants that died! Should have done more researching before having this fool do work on my property!

These guys are awesome. I found them through Google. It was easy to setup appointments with Alex who came over to our house several times, prepared a magnificent plan of how he would transform our garden and front entrance (stairs and patio). Alex was very prompt about getting back about estimates and setting up times to actually get the job done. He went above and beyond to help us out. He doesn’t string you along for weeks like many other contractors. I will definitely be utilizing the plethora of services he offers in the future. Overall Alex and his team were very friendly with a high level of professionalism. I highly recommend them.

Alex Lyon and his people have done work for me for many years starting 30 years ago when he replaced an old railroad tie retaining wall with a new landscape timber wall. Recently, when the wood wall needed replacement, I knew who to call. His crew installed an excellent Versa block wall along with a black aluminum fence on top of the wall, They also landscape the back and front yards. I highly recommend Lyon Landscaping for any of you landscaping projects.

Lyon Landscaping TRANSFORMED our front yard! Alex, the crew and foreman were all AMAZING - professional, courteous, knowledgeable, skilled, hardworking, and they genuinely seemed to enjoy the work and each other. Alex was onsite at all critical times to make sure that his vision/design was being executed correctly. His design and ideas were great, and the pricing was very reasonable. The work performed included the design and installation of a brick walkway and all new plantings, adding a light post, trimming existing trees, and restoring grass areas. We could not be happier and without hesitation give Lyon Landscaping our highest recommendation!

We are so very pleased with our finished yard! Originally we had thought we would need to hire several contractors (tree removal, landscaping, etc) but upon a friend's recommendation we hired Lyon Landscape and they handled the entire job! Alex took the time to talk things through with us and presented my husband and I with great ideas. We knew we were in good hands! As is typical, New England weather presented the project with a few surprises but as soon as they were able the workers were back to finish. We LOVE our backyard and HIGHLY recommend Alex and Lyon Landscape Nursery!

I'd also like to mention that all the workers were very considerate and and complete gentlemen!

We contacted Lyon Landscape Nursery to help us find a solution to the flooding problem in our yard. Alex designed an innovative drainage system and was able to execute this project right away. Alex and his team were very detail-oriented, and Alex always kept us in the loop with frequent updates. We no longer have any standing water and are thrilled with the solution. Lyon Landscape did great work. Highly recommend!

Alex and his team do excellent work. We hired them in Fall 2020 to do a large transformation of our back yard and front walkway, including building a patio, installing a screen door, constructing new steps, and some major landscaping. Alex drew a beautiful illustration of his plan and everything came together perfectly. They did a magnificent job and we are loving seeing everything come to life this spring. After seeing that two of the trees did not make it through the rough winter, Alex offered to replace them as part of our warranty this spring. Definitely recommend Alex and his team if you are in need of some renovations or landscaping!

Alex and team did a wonderful job with our pool patio project. We received numerous quotes for our project and Lyon Landscape came in a bit more expensive than the rest. It was clear that he had more experience and much better design ideas (in the end, it actually saved us money compared to the other quotes). He has such an artistic mind and drew up the most beautiful project plans so we could see his vision. It blew away all the other quotes. His crew is extremely punctual and incredibly hard working. They did such a beautiful job! Thanks Alex and team!

I have had a GREAT experience with Lyon Landscape! Alex went out of his way to design a great looking stone wall and walkway for my house that improved tremendously the overall appearance of the entryway to my home. my house was truly transformed, I feel that his employees were very knowledgeable and professional in their approach to the project at hand, and Alex, the owner with his artistic, skilled hand ensured that every detail was executed properly, timely, and on budget. I would highly recommend Lyon Landscape Nursery for any project that you might be considering, especially a highly technical project that requires a high degree of precision and aesthetic appeal.

Alex and his team did a great job in our backyard. We have used Lyon Landscape for years and have never been disappointed! This year, he added a putting green and an outdoor kitchen. Alex and his team are prompt, courteous, and responsive to all questions and/or concerns that we had.

Alex and his team do great work! I had three other companies come out and look at the job before deciding to go with Lyon Landscape Nursery. All three competitors were competent but didn’t approach the job with any sort of vision. Alex and his team really listened to what we were trying to accomplish and came up with a plan which ended up dramatically improving our property. This team has vision. As has been my experience with other craftsmen of this caliber we had to patiently await our turn but it was well worth the wait. We could not be happier with the way everything turned out. So much so, we’re now planning to have Lyon Landscape Nursery build us an outdoor kitchen and shed. (I’ve heard really good things about their hardscape work so I’ll post a follow up review once those projects are done.)

(Updated review to include additional work described below.)

Lyon Landscape Nursery does it again! Inspired by the stellar job they’d previously done on a much smaller project we decided to give Alex free rein in designing a massive patio upgrade for our property. Alex did a great job of breaking down all our options but in the end his ideas were so good we ended up just doing it all.

Cam, Rog, and the rest of the crew completed the job in record time despite all the additional work we added on during the process (including adding another large fieldstone retaining wall, repairing an existing walkway, taking down a few huge pine trees, regrading our backyard, and rerouting our homes entire drainage system). The scope of work these guys can perform is truly impressive and everything was done well for a fair price.

We have used Lyon Landscape services for over 15 years to do major landscaping projects around our home - new shed, front walk, plantings, extensive stone work and general maintenance - mowing, clean-ups, etc. Alex is great at offering suggestions and working with us to produce great results. I would highly recommend Lyon Landscape.

What can I say about this company, from the first interaction to the last, amazing communication, competitive pricing and most of all, superb finished product. We asked Alex to give us suggestions on what to do with our back yard that kept flooding. He suggested a French Drain, and came up with a plan/drawing and got to work. The quality of the service was exceptional, his guys were on time and completed the work with no issues even going the extra mile to make things better than they were originally. He also created an off drive car parking spot.
Highly recommended and would definately use him again for any general contracting needs.

Lyon Landscaping replaced our existing concrete front stairs and railings. We are very happy with the quality of the new stairs and new railings. Lyon Landscaping addressed the issues ( first step out of the house was too high and stairs pulling away from the house) we were having with the original concrete stairs and railings. The work crew was very professional.

Alex has done work for us on two different properties over the years. One job was a full design landscape project and execution and the other was an enhancement of existing granite stairs and brick walkways. Alex and his team, who have been with him for a long time, are extremely professional, very neat and respectful of the property, and stay with the job to completion. Their design vision takes into account the entire property to insure the project's plan compliment the total surroundings. I would recommend Alex and his company on any type of new design projects or upgrades of exiting landscape.

We hired Lyon Landscape in the spring of 2023 to bring our lawn back to life. After several years of failed attempts and multiple landscapers we decided to try hydroseeding. Our lawn was compromised primarily of clover, moss and crab grass. Alex and his team were fantastic. They explained the process and were very clear about managing expectations, as my lawn was a mess. After a few weeks the new grass began to pop and now a couple of months later and we have a golf course on our hands. We highly recommend Alex and Lyon Landscape. Before and after pictures attached.

Working with Lyon Landscape and Nursery was one of the best decisions we’ve made for our home. Our front, side, and backyard were a complete mess: invasive species, overgrown weeds, dead and diseased trees, old debris, and to make things more complicated, the property sits near protected wetlands, which meant navigating conservation requirements.

From the start, Alex was fantastic. He came over, drew up thoughtful plans, suggested plantings, and even handled all the communication and permitting with the conservation department. He offered different options along the way to make sure we stayed within budget, which we really appreciated. We leaned on Alex’s expertise throughout the process and always felt comfortable with his recommendations. He never pushed unnecessary work, instead he focused on what would truly benefit the property.

When it came time to do the work, his crew was outstanding - hardworking, skilled, and detail-oriented. They went above and beyond, not only in the quality of their work but also in their thoughtfulness. If something needed adjusting, they were quick to move things around, check in with us, and make sure every detail matched what we had envisioned. Their pride in the finished product really showed.

We’re so grateful to Alex, Cam, and the entire team for transforming our property into a beautifully landscaped home. I cannot recommend them enough. There are plenty of landscapers out there, but the genuine care and pride Alex and his team put into their work truly set them apart. They treated our project as if it were their own home, which shows in every thoughtful detail.

Alex & Cam Lyon, along with their team are an excellent business. We decided to take out our inground pool and have a bigger water garden/pond built. We have worked with this company in the past with our grass watering system 30 years ago and decided to have them do the work. I love our new pond and it is extremely well built. Looking forward to planting once it warms up. Our walkway was built by a sub-contractor and Alex did not like their work and tried to get them to fix it. When they did not, his team stepped up and did an very beautiful job. Excellent communication, experience and work ethic.

It was a pleasure working with Alex from Lyon Landscape Nursery from the first phone call! We met with him several times to vision our project and then refine the plan. We appreciated the wealth of experience he brought to the discussions and took him lead on a number of suggestions and we couldn’t be more pleased with how our project came out. From a beautiful gazebo to an outdoor kitchen, the fire pit, the stone walkway, and the gorgeous landscaping, he and his crew transformed our blank slate patio and yard into a backyard oasis. Alex’s crew was amazing! They worked incredibly hard to get our project done by our graduation party and left the yard spotless when they finished. Throughout the process, Alex and his crew were communicative and kept to the quoted timeline and estimate. We highly recommend Lyon Landscape Nursery and will 100% use them for future projects!!!!

Steve from SLC was a pleasure to work with. Was also flexible adjusting to anchor a basketball hoop for me. Very professional, and the concrete pad looks great. Looking forward to many fun years to come with the kids.
