Our small front yard gardens were very overgrown. I called several landscaping businesses around Hastings, and Harder & Warner came back with the most reasonable quote (and didn't charge me to do it!). Kathy Warner designed and oversaw the entire project and she did a fantastic job. She listened to everything that I wanted and had helpful suggestions.

My biggest concerns were that our chickens get into and ruin everything, and that I needed something very low maintenance. Kathy came up with a great design full of hardy heat tolerant plants and stone the chickens couldn't kick around. We did lose one of the plants within two weeks, and it was immediately replaced under warranty without any hassle.

The foreman that did the job was also fantastic. He paid close attention to my concerns and even graded the driveway where there were tracks from his equipment. There was little damage to the lawn but he put in new seed there too without my having to ask. Really appreciated the care he took to do the job.

I would definitely work with them again if I was able to request Kathy to oversee the project.

My fiance and I are first time home owners and we purchased a brand new house so we needed to install a yard and everything that goes along with that. We chose to trust Brandon Gordon and Harder and Warner with doing our landscaping, irrigation and lawn installation. Brandon met me at our home to see the property and to start to put together a quote within our budget. He came back with a beautiful design that both my fiance and I were really happy with. The landscaping was put in flawlessly and looks amazing. When I noticed some spots of mud in the mulch I contacted Brandon and he had someone come out next day to refresh those spots. The irrigation went in fine followed by the hydro seeding. That same night we had a wicked storm that came through and wiped a lot of the seed away. I had no idea it needed to be reseeded at the time, but I sent a picture to Brandon asking a different question and he noticed that a lot of it was wiped away in some spots. Without me even asking, he said he'd have his team hydro seed the lawn again at no extra charge, he even came and filled in eroded spots (from the hard rain) with top soil before they came to seed! I could go on and on about how great my experience was with Brandon and everyone else at Harder and Warner, he truly has been a class act and has been extremely helpful and patient with me being my first time going through this process. I'm so happy we chose H&W, and I would certainly recommend anyone in Michigan who lives in 100 mile radius of this place to use them.

Haven't been here in years. It's grown and is more amazing than ever. I won't wait so long again to go back. Found exactly what I was looking for.

We stopped in on Sunday with our long plant, bush and tree list for redoing our landscaping and Leslie eagerly jumped in to assist us. She was very knowledgeable and patient with all of our questions. We had not planned to purchase all of the items but Leslie was so helpful that we decided to get what we could haul in our vehicle and have the tree delivered later. Leslie even helped us pull the wagon around and load it up with our new plantings as well as select large chunks of landscape stone. Even though we have lived in the area for years, this was our first visit and we will definitely be back. The available selection and health of the plants are amazing but the best part was the excellent service! Thanks Leslie for making a daunting task rather easy.

We are so pleased with our landscaping from H&W. Erin provided a great design and Colby and Justice did a great installation.

Frankly I am surprised by the positive reviews. I unfortunately did not have a good experience with Harder & Warner. I spent over $3000 dollars to have my backyard designed and landscaped in May of 2017. It is now 2 years since installed and I have pretty much had to replace almost half of the plants that HW planted.

I did not know that I could go in and purchase the plants ahead of time so unfortunately the installer brought very small plants without any blooms and some of them did not look very healthy. When I questioned this she told me they can't bring the blooming ones as those are for the nursery shoppers.

I paid to have HW install at $75 an hour to ensure I got the 1 year warranty. Last year I sent several e-mails about replacing the plants that died and how disappointed I was with the plants as many were not thriving due to lack of sunlight or too much sun. For example Little Lime bushes which like sun were planted in an area with very little sunlight. All three have never bloomed and are very small. While Endless Summer hydrangeas were planted in the almost full sun area of the garden.

When I finally got to speak to someone and expressed my concerns I was told they would replace the dead ones but were not going to replace or move the plants that were not thriving due to location even though the landscape was designed and planted by them. The reason I spent $3K was to ensure it was designed with proper sunlight placement and a warranty. Bottom line is I could have done what they did for 1/3 of the price on my own with larger blooming plants.

Update: Response to owners reply. As stated previously although
several plants died the bigger issue to me was that H&W was not replacing plants that did not thrive (as noted in pictures) due to lack of sunlight/incorrect placement. The designer initially came out in early spring of 2017 before the trees had bloomed so perhaps he did not realize how much shade there was. As far as standing behind the design that was designed, I asked for someone to come out several times to see what my concern was but every time it was scheduled no one came, so not sure how you can stand beside a design that was never seen in person. After sending several e-mails over a two year span I got fed up and have been moving and replacing on my own. the plants that I moved are doing much better in the new locations with more sunlight.

Excellent selection of plants and landscaping materials. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable. They went out of their way to answer our questions and show us various options for our project. Great experience all around!

Roberta at Harder Warner was amazing! She made planning my yard and garden a breeze, helping with plant selection and what would works best where. Everything was quick, on time, and she even helped rush an order on her day off. Highly recommend Roberta for your yard planning needs!

They are rude their drivers are out of control. They don’t care who they pull out in front of and fly down all roads faster then they should. It doesn’t help calling or stopping into the office. They just let it go.
This isn’t the 1st 2nd or 3rd time. Your drivers always drive unsafe with no regards. I have personally stopped into the store and spoke to somebody just a few months ago the last time that one of your big dump truck almost smashed into Me with my child in the car so when you say that you’re personally gonna handle the situation, I don’t believe it.

We had pond restoration backyard landscaping, which included removal of several large trees that had fallen in the pond. Brandon our project co-ordinator was great, giving us lots of options, DJ and Zac did the actual work, they were professional and kept us appraised of progress on a regular basis. I would recommend Harder and Warner for any landscaping project based on our experience.

Lots and lots of nice flowers and garden decorations, and many varieties of trees, really liked just walking around and looking at all the beautiful plants.

Was daunted to consign to Harder and Warner after the Home and Garden Show because I expected them to offer very little attention to my small home [and small budget].

Long story short: I walked out of the initial proposal completely convinced, and their team did not disappoint. Could not be happier with the results. My trees were planted and angled in an attractive way, great, honest communication, and they value what's most important to you. Worth every penny, trust me. 💯!

I have the misfortune of living next door to a property where Harder & Warner recently performed landscaping work and installed a fence. I was not impressed with their respect for property. They drove their trucks on my lawn, leaving tire tracks. They walked all over my backyard while building the fence, without having the common courtesy to speak to me about being on my property. When I went outside to talk to them, the workers also didn't know the location of the property line, whether there had been a survey, or if they had a permit to build the fence.
Worst of all, when the fence was finished, I was left with a ditch on my side of the fence, where before I had level ground. It's now a dirt mess instead of grass and greenery. Not impressed.

I love the staff at Harder & Warner! They listen well, follow directions, work hard, and care deeply, no matter the department. They’re also so much fun and will brighten your day. I'm consistently impressed, highly recommend!

Been 1 year, when installing the lawn and plants, they didn't have what we order and they substitute other plants, we stopped them from planting them and substituted plants we wanted.
There equipment that filters the dirt ,to remove stones and junk didn't work, so I have a lot of stone in my lawn. The lawn is also bumpy.
My biggest problem is with the drain field and septic, they didn't level or make it where you can go over the lids with a mower and I told them I wanted it flat where I can go over the lids with a mower

10/7/25 After they read my review, they wanted to make right. I was not home when they were going to make the sepic lids right so I could straddle the lids with the mower. Was not happy with the fill around the lids, drop off too soon, but i tried it and sure enough, the mower hit the bolt head taking it off, not happy!

We had a very large red maple tree planted by H&W. The tree was hauled 30 miles to our house and arrived in nice shape. Very nice work. Boards were put down on our lawn to prevent damage by the small backhoe that was used. Everything cleaned up nicely. Good experience both at the store and with the installation. Nice selection when we were picking one out. The warranty is interesting... if your tree needs replacing you buy another one and get a store credit for the amount.

Awesome selection of mature and manicured plants, not the cheapest but all of very high quality, sculptures here are amazing, they definitely know what they are doing.

Harder and Warner worked on my eaves previously and did a fair, not great, job. But when they landscaped both of our immediate neighbors they left quite a bit to be desired. After “completing” their job, parts of our yard were covered in dirt from the other yards and never addressed. They just left it to be taken care of by me, I guess. I have also bought several trees and plants from them in the past as well, through all of my experiences, I have been constantly and consistently disappointed with the quality of everything.

I went to Harder & Warner for the first time today. I purchased 3 beautiful shrubs in excellent condition. Extra, unexpected bonus: the grounds are lovely -- and so much fun with the art prize pieces throughout. And the staff was attentive and helpful from the moment I arrived. Special shout out to Amber for both her knowledge and kindness. I will definitely be back to walk all the grounds. Looking forward to visitng near the winter holidays!
