Went there Saturday 06/29 and was helped by a person named Russell. He was extremely knowledgeable and helped me pick out some native plants to Minnesota. He was very friendly and welcoming. Overall a massive variety of plants and I enjoyed my visit and purchased items.

I love this place, even though most of their trees were already sold since we were late in getting ours they still had a great selection and really friendly, helpful staff. And Santa was there along with a craft for the kids!

Mustard Seed---I hope that you read these: You have your sun perennials organized by scientific rather than common names?! Many of your customers are not familiar with the Latin names for plants. I wandered around aimlessly looking for a couple of plants, and although I was surrounded by your staff members, no one offered to help me. If you are going to use a difficult organizational system rather than alphabetized common names like other nurseries do, it might help to train your staff to ask customers if they need assistance. I would love to patronize a small, local business rather than a bigger chain, but it's too hard to find what I need at your store.

I went here to get a bonsai tree for my dad's birthday which is near father's day. All sorts of cool things to add to your gift geared toward the holiday. I only assume they do it for mother's day and other holidays and occasions as well. Fantastic service with a knowledgeable, friendly staff. Was in and out with exactly what I wanted in 20 minutes.

I have always found such unique annuals and my "usuals" as well and they ALWAYS produce such wonderful plants and flowers! They also have a great array of perennials and native plants. Also the shop area when you checkout has SO many cute things to see and buy! Yes some things can be a little pricey, but you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Plus I've always had great help every time I have visited! I always look forward to my next planting project when I go there!

As a plant nerd I often visit multiple local garden centers, avoiding big box stores after learning they participate in a form of consignment called "Scan to Pay" which means they carry zero financial risk for the plants they sell. This program allows them to not properly care for the plants they carry. It also allows them to avoid educating their staff in regards to proper care.
The staff at the Mustard Seed prove that you get what you pay for. While some of the younger staff may not have the answers, they are willing to find someone who can.
The staff is welcoming and go out of their way to help to the best of their ability. I have been coming here for years for annuals, veggies and perennials. It's incredibly rare that I have an experience that left me feeling dissatisfied (no one is perfect & I'm going to be perfectly honest... I was being impatient). They still went out their way to help me.
The one thing that stands out at this garden center is that they do their very best to find specific plants just for you & will call you whether they were able to locate the requested plants or not. I don't know of anywhere else that would provide this much personal care.
I love this place. I appreciate the help from the staff and the education I receive whenever I visit. They're so kind to oblige my multitude of questions and provide educated answers.

There are always lovely plants to choose from that are healthy and well taken care of. I just went for their Valentine's special where you could choose a house plant and cute pot. A fun excuse to get a new houseplant! The staff are always super friendly and take great care to package up plants to get them safely to your car, especially in cold weather.

Quaint, local, and has all your gardening needs. I am a vendor at the annual Forest show that is held there in December. Love this place and the people.

This place is HUGE and fun just to walk around. They have livestock that you can feed and a man-made pond with turtles. It was pretty dead when we went and the only employee I could see was inside at the registers and by the chickens. They have products for ponds as well as koi/goldfish. Not a great selection of chemicals/soils for smaller scale gardeners, and all the succulents in the outdoor area were absolutely covered in aphids. Decently reasonable pricing considering the area.

I am so pleased with the work chris and his crew did at my house. The guys showed up early and stayed late…even in the blazing heat! I’ve had terrible experiences with contractors in the past. The work they did here was great! I’ll be using them for future projects!

Hagen Lawn and Landscape installed a massive tiered boulder wall project for Lakewinds Condominium Association in 2020. It was a very complex project on a very steep grade to the Lake Minnetonka, and included ADA sidewalks, numerous gardens, a patio expansion at the gazebo, gas lines run to three grills, bollard low voltage lighting and a new pavered patio as well as a deck built into the embankment to the marina and beach. This project required heavy equipment operated from the lakeside as well as reaching down from the top of the embankment. Hagen had the barge to the transport sizeable boulders and the equipment necessary to work from the tight waterside quarters. All of their equipment was top notch and well up to the task. And the coordination between the operator of the articulating arm and the guy on the ground manipulating sizeable boulders and easing them into place was nothing less than amazing to watch. The project included tiered gardens, with plantings placed late into summer. There was almost no winter kill and the plants look robust and happy this spring. Chris Hagen agreed to come back in the spring and till and reseed an area compacted by machinery and materials and did so long after he was fully paid. The kudos keep coming in from our residents and their guests. Hagen and company did an A+ job. The project can be seen from your boat on the west shore of Spring Park Bay of Lake Minnetonka, just south of the Black Lake bridge.

Hagen replaced and repaired the riprap along 200 feet of lakeshore at our home. The crew were professional, courteous and neat. Their work is nothing short of artistry. They did a fitted style of riprap that is sturdy and beautiful and we’ve actually gotten a lot a of compliments on our rocks! In addition, we have a steep hill to the lake and 3 trees fell this winter taking much of the hill with them. Hagen was able to remove the fallen trees and secure the hill with boulders and plantings. I highly recommend them!

Chris and his crew transformed my eye sore of a backyard into a beautiful outdoor living space. They were very thorough and efficient, very professional, and did a wonderful job. I am so happy I used Hagen Landscaping and will use them again in the future, and highly recommend them to others. Thank you Hagen Landscaping. I am a very satisfied customer.

From the first call, appointments and promises were kept throughout the planning process. The team at Hagen delivered samples, designs and took the time we needed to fully understand the project. Engineered block walls, granite steps, low voltage accent lighting, irrigation, pavers, and garden design all comprehensively installed and delivered on time. Throughout the build process, Hagen managed acquisition of city permits and the jobsite was kept clean and orderly. The crew was professional, courteous and clean! Our project turned out amazing and is on display for all of our guests at Al and Alma’s Supper Club on Lake Minnetonka. We highly recommend Hagen Landscaping and will happily provide a personal account of our experience with them if asked. A great value, super high quality product as promised, on time and on budget!

Hagen built a pool patio and landscaped our yard. A couple things:

    (1) Jose. Jose was our foreman. I’m sure the other foremen are great, but Jose was the very, very best. Highly responsive, positive, and good to his guys. It’s clear the standard was nothing but the best, and that’s what he delivered.

    (2) Design. We really struggled with how to lay some things out. Chris Hagen came with ideas on his first day on site, all of which we incorporated.

    (3) Quality. I can’t say enough about the work these guys do. It’s just top notch all the way. They exceeded our expectations.

    (4) Timeliness. Sometimes you hire a contractor and they disappear, don’t show up each day, etc. these guys were here at the same time each morning, and they didn’t miss a single day.

(M5) Flexibility. I threw an unplanned sod project at Chris at the end of the project. They were scraping sod that day, and had the new sod going in the next day.

    (6) I don’t think these guys are the low bidders, but I didn’t feel the price was unreasonable. But if you’re the type who wants it done on time, and done RIGHT, I can’t recommend them enough.

We have a large steep hillside that had an old timber wall, wood stairs, weeds, buckthorn and weed cloth that was an eyesore. Chris Hagen was extremely professional and patient throughout the whole process as we designed the Fond du Lac wall, stairs and plant layout with him.

Jose Lallier led the crew onsite and we highly recommend him as he was on top of everything from execution of the design to many brilliant onsite modifications and always looking out for us throughout the process.

    Highly recommend!
