Still no reply from the company. They did send me a marketing communication which I (again) replied to asking for attention to my matter. Still no reply.

Read their reply. Is this how you want to be treated as a customer should anything go wrong with your project?

The company claims we never reached out - we emailed their contact info (from their website) on Sep 18, Oct 2, and Oct 22. Never received a reply. See picture.

The company also refuses to acknowledge our concerns. You can see it in their reply.

The company is not being truthful. Among many untruths, we DID NOT reschedule twice - we rescheduled once, and they rescheduled the second time. Rescheduling is VERY normal in this industry when you're working with landscapers...Sod Smith told us this at the time and our landscaper also told us this. Only now is Sod Smith blaming us.

I don't like to post negative reviews (look at my profile) and I try my best to work with the company first. Unfortunately, Sod Smith has yet to reply to any of my concerns regarding their install at our house. This is disappointing given the recency of our project and given we spent nearly $8k.

Bottomline, don't be fooled by the pictures - it looks great initially, but issues persist long-term and requires HIGH maintenance due to shortcuts made during ground preparation. This is NOT a professional job.

SCOPE OF WORK: we had them do a full install (ground prep + sod) for the front yard and sod only for the backyard (as our landscaper did the ground prep there as part of another project).

ISSUE: unfortunately, they did ground prep right after a major rainfall when the ground was still wet AND they tried cramming it into a tight time window. I raised these concerns before, during, and after install. They told me that they followed their normal process and that everything will hold well - and I trusted them as the experts and as the initial look was great.

RESULT: our front yard looks horrible <1 year post-install. The grade in our front yard settled significantly given the shortcuts taken in the prep work. This has resulted in a very inconsistent and patchy lawn with each area requiring different levels of maintenance. It's simply not a professional job.

The backyard? Our landscaper listened to our concerns and did additional prep work. The result is that the backyard is in great condition.

We had a lawncare professional come out to take a look as part of fixing the issues. He assumed the front yard was a DIY job and that the backyard was recently redone. That tells you how bad it looks now.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: I have contacted Sod Smith numerous times over the past few months. I have yet to hear back. I'm very disappointed that they are not standing behind their work.

SUMMARY: if you're looking for sod (no ground prep), they likely can do a great job for you as they provide quality sod. If you're looking for a full install (sod + prep), then proceed with caution and trust your gut if you feel they are shortcutting the job.

Wow! What an easy process this was and the service and product were top notch! Getting things done these days can sometimes take several phone calls and hours of time waiting for people to call you back or show up. But Sod Smith was exactly the opposite - one e-mail, one quick phone call, and I had an estimate. A quick approval from me and Sod Smith gave me my install date. They showed up when they said and did an excellent job. My lawn looks great! Worth every penny. Thank you!

Sod Smith did an amazing job doing a full sod replacement in both our front and back yard. The team was punctual, communicated all steps of the process in great detail and provided in-depth instructions for post-installation lawn maintenance. There was also some slope regrading we had to perform as an extra task but the team still tackled it with ease.
The entire job was completed very efficiently over 7-8 hour in a single day. The team followed up next day to do a full-concrete power wash to clean up any installation mess on our sidewalks and driveway, which was very nice as it sounds like their normal contractor was out of the country at the time we installed. I'd recommend Sod Smith for any Twin Cities residents looking to do new sod installation!

Sod Smith was very easy to work with, prompt, and friendly. From start to finish, Micah explained everything that would happen, walked us through our project day of, and ensured our satisfaction at the end of the day. They expertly navigated poor landscaping choices from previous owners and drains/sprinklers in the yard. Care instructions were provided for easy maintenance. Our new lawn looks great!

I found Sodsmith on line as our daughter and son in law were regrading and re-sodding their front yard. I inquired on line and promptly received a call from Kaleb Smith the owner. After relaying square footage he gave me a very competitive quote (almost half what a competitor quoted us!) and confirmed that they could do the sod install promptly in just a couple of days. I received text updates throughout the whole process from Kaleb and he did a fantastic job. I would not hesitate to recommend Sodsmith. 5 star service! Outstanding!

Sod Smith did a great job from start to finish in the back yard! The project was made easy for me with their way of estimating and their ability to accommodate my installation schedule. All of the information I needed to make a decision and to understand how to maintain the newly-installed sod was sent to me quickly and was written concisely. The installer took care, of both working around existing plantings and leveling the uneven ground, while improving the quality of the soil. The yard now looks fantastic! Sod Smith completed this home improvement project in a timely-manner and for a fair price. We are very satisfied.

This is really the service I need. It seems second nature to Sod Smith to treat my yard second and me first. This, the first company I called, is what I have been looking for for years. I got sod, irrigreen landscape/plant professional and an extreme team that wants to get it done as bad as you want it done. They have advanced technological products and tools to help landscape maintenance easier and to help the customer understand complex agriculture. They know their stuff.

Kaleb and the Sod Smith team saved the day! We did an extensive rework of our landscaping to prep for our daughter’s 2024 grad party. Sod was the last step. Kaleb’s team worked like dogs to make sure the lawn was as beautiful as everything else. He squeezed us in and his crew worked long days and even came in on Memorial Day to make sure everything finished in time. And they cleaned up after themselves so well that hardly a trace was left behind. Everything went exceptionally smoothly.
It’s now a new year. Spring has sprung again and the grass is coming back beautifully. I truly appreciate them and wholeheartedly endorse Sod Smith!!!

The team was great! Couldn’t ask for nicer guys. They worked hard, especially as I live on a hill and hauling dirt and sod up was no easy task! Sod is growing nicely and so very lush. Never had that in my yard.

Sometimes, despite everyone's efforts, things go wrong. Those times are the true test of a business. Sod Smith passed that test heroically. Mine was actually a small job which went awry at a very busy time for Sod Smith. In order to make it right and not interrupt the rest of his schedule, Kaleb came to my house on a Sunday morning and did it himself -- and did it perfectly! I can't recommend Sod Smith highly enough! All of them are great guys.

Sod Smith is great to work with! They provided a quick and accurate quote for my project, excellent communication on the front and back end, were prompt and held to their schedule/timeline, and I was very impressed with their attention to detail in grading, preparing the soil, and laying the sod. They also provide nice, detailed instructions for maintaining your sod for the first ~6 months. I highly recommend Sod Smith for your next sod project!

The team at Sod Smith was great. I had a large side yard they completely transformed and the end product is amazing. I also really appreciated their advice on maintenance with my specific yard (full sun, sloping, etc). Would definitely recommend them!
