Worry-free lawn and snow care year-round! The care and attention to detail for our lawn has been excellent! Been a customer for a few years now, and we greatly appreciate the responsive customer service and diligence of lawn technicians. The option for seasonal packages are a huge plus!

Not sure who was driving this truck specifically if it was the owner or if it was perhaps an employee of the company — regardless they were driving extremely unprofessionally! All over the road, at one point intentionally just swerving back and forth for what looked like it was “just for fun” as I’d maybe expect to see a high schooler do but not an adult representing a company. They also passed multiple cars on a two lane highway where traffic was already moving at 68mph in a 60mph zone meaning this truck likely went in excess of 80mph to pass 2-3 cars (it was at least a passing zone though, but still unprofessional and not best practice to pass multiple cars at one time). Their driving was actually beginning to make me question if they were impaired or just that careless about driving habits and I contemplated calling authorities to have them look into it to be sure the driver was safe to operate a vehicle.

Truck is all Beat up which to me shows the people that operate these vehicles (regardless whether or not it’s always the same people) don’t take pride and responsibility in their duties. Yes company trucks used for work will get a little beat up from use, but when I have my own take home company truck I get to use at my day job I take excellent care of it. I am a service technician and do mobile service calls - my last truck had over 200k miles and barely a scratch on it much less large dents or damage despite the hundreds of busy job sites it had been on, equipment hauled, and tools in/out of the truck bed regularly. I now have the privilege of a brand new company truck because I proved I can take care of my service truck at work and I give my employer a POSITIVE PROFESSIONAL image with my driving, how I keep my truck presentable, and how I look/act professional when I’m on site with customers. Someone in their personal car driving like this at least isn’t representing a company. I can guarantee if I was a business owner and had observed my employee driving in the same manner that I saw this truck driving today that they would be having a conversation with me, would be no longer driving a company vehicle, and potentially lose their job as I would not want someone representing my personal name or my business like this.

I’ll be curious to see if and how the company responds to this information….

The way I observed this company driving today tells me about all I would need to know about how they likely run a business and gives me the impression they may not take the best pride in their work.

I can’t speak for sure of their level of service — hopefully their actual service to customers is much better than their public image is when driving around in a marked company vehicle. I missed the worst of their driving where they were intentionally serving side to side aggressively as after that is when I tried to get a video. Google also limits videos to 30 seconds so I can only show some of what I was able to catch on video

Peter Doran does a fabulous job plowing and shoveling my driveway every year. They always come early so I can get out of the driveway, and they keep everyone notified by email when the plows are going out. Great service—highly recommend!

We're not customers, but neighbors of someone who is. On one occasion, the gutter cleaning crew left one side of our home and windows all muddy, I reached out to them, and they not only owned the mistake but sent someone right after (the next day) to clean it up. So, I can tell from that gesture the kind of service you would expect from them is top-notch

I was doing a little bit of garage cleanup when Perry M & Brandon M came by. They took care of the rest of my yard. Firstly, when I greeted them, they were very polite and professional. I explained that I would stay out of their way and they assured that they would likewise be out of my way. (This was a mirthful exchange). They operated fast and cleanly and were very pleasant to interact with. Ive got a long history in the service industry, and its workers like that which develop long time customers. Ive been with this company for years, and they have never disappointed me. Exceptionally polite, and warm to talk to. They did quality work accomplishing more in less than an hour than would have taken me a weekend. And my yard looks really good. Thank you to them.

I used Peter Doran in fall 2024 to trim our hedges. The work itself was fine, but there was zero communication about when they would arrive. Because of that, we chose a different company for 2025—which did an amazing job and communicated clearly.

Fast forward to fall 2025: a worker from Peter Doran showed up unexpectedly to trim our hedges. We received no communication whatsoever that they were coming. Our Ring camera shows the worker was on-site for less than one hour, yet we were billed for two hours of labor plus a haul‑away fee.

To be fair, I agreed to pay for the one hour of labor and tax, and I marked the check as “Paid in Full.” Now I am being contacted again for the remaining haul‑away fee. Given that the worker was only here for under an hour, it’s unclear how there was enough debris to justify that charge.

Another important note: Peter Doran uses a “GREEN contract,” which automatically renews indefinitely unless you cancel it. This was not clearly communicated to us.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend signing anything with Peter Doran, and I will not be using them again.

I had Peter Doran Lawn Services for weekly mowing for nearly three years, and throughout that time I felt like I had to constantly babysit their work. A few recurring issues included excessive grass clippings left all over the yard, which ultimately led to dead, patchy, and unsightly areas. Instead of mowing twice when needed, the explanation I always received was that “it’s good for the grass,” even though the results clearly showed otherwise.

I also have a double-door gate that must be properly secured after service. It took nearly an entire year of repeated requests before it was finally added to my service notes and consistently followed by the technicians.

In addition to mowing, I subscribed to their weed-control services. Technicians were supposed to treat weeds in the rock beds, yet they often couldn’t distinguish between actual weeds and plants—leading to several plants being sprayed or damaged.

Despite these ongoing concerns, I continued giving them opportunities to improve—until the incident in October that ultimately ruined my yard. They chose to mow during active rainfall, and their riding mower tore up large sections of my lawn. Their solution was to send someone out to throw seed on the damaged areas, but as anyone knows, overseeding in late fall will not take hold and does nothing to repair the damage.

If you value your peace of mind and expect consistent, quality lawn care, I strongly recommend choosing another company.

I would strongly discourage not using this company to do your landscaping. He did mine over a year ago and had said that all of the bushes that were put in place have a one-year warranty. He came to look it this past spring as we have four dead bushes said that he would replace them as soon as the ground unthaws. I have left him numerous text messages and voicemail messages to find out when he’s going to take care of this and he has been completely nonresponsive since the beginning of June and it is now the end of August. Also in the process of putting the landscaping in he covered up three sprinkler heads but he also said he was going to fix and has not done soThis is very poor customer service

I needed to fix about 2000 square feet of yard out to roadway on both sides of new driveway, Richtsmeier gave me an estimate for what he could do with fill, top soil and sod, then showed up when he said he would and made the yard look beautiful. Several neighbors have been commenting on how nice the property looks...thanks to Richtsmeier Landsacaping!

I just had a retaining wall put in, drain tile along edge of property, a bunch of ashthorn brush removed and two trees put in. Tom and his team did a great job. Very detail oriented and does provide some advice if requested. He took precautions not to damage my grass by putting down planks where he used his miniature bobcat thing. I would highly recommend his work.. I will post pictures once the job is complete and the grass greens up a little...

Pertaining to some posters that post what a terrible employer he is.. .i have this to offer: This is his BUSINESS.. He cares that the job is done correctly. He had two helpers that were just learning... What i saw was a guy that cared that 1.) they were doing the job correctly, and 2.) that they were taking breaks as needed (they were working hard). Its landscaping people... The guy is going to yell at you are *&%ing off. The crew he had were trying hard and did great work, and i saw Tom correct them when they were doing things wrong. YOU WANT THIS... This is a trade that you can learn and you don't end up having to hire it out like i have to do. If you don't want to get yelled at, go work at the flower store for minimum wage.

We have the best yard in the neighborhood thanks to Tom and his crew! They did a professional and top notch job. From the design/sketch Tom put together to the timely completion of the project, we couldn't be more pleased! Go with Richtsmeier Landscaping!

Tom recently completed work for me and it looks wonderful. Tom gave me some really thoughtful advice and went out of his way to get supplies after I changed my mind about part of the project. This is the second landscaping job Tom has done on my yard, and I couldn't be happier. Tom was great to work with. The results are spectacular!

Tom did a fabulous job on a boulder retaining wall in our back yard. He’s extremely knowledgeable and also gave us some great advice about what to plant and how to better care for our trees and plants. I highly recommend this company if you need a landscaping project completed.

Tom cleared my backyard of poison ivy, overgrowth, and miscellaneous junk. He then brought in dirt, leveled it, and put down grass seed. Now the back of my yard can be mowed along with the rest, and I now have a relaxing view of the railroad tracks, which is exactly what I had wanted. Plus, Tom provided great info to assist me with obtaining hoses, sprinklers, etc. Awesome job Tom! Thanks so much!

We recently had the pleasure of working with Tom for a significant project that included installing a paver patio and landscaping around our house, and we couldn't be happier with the results.

Tom has done two projects for us - one last year and another this year. Both were fairly significant projects such as flagstones with landscape rock, edging, drain tiles, new plantings, lots of mulch applied, and division/replanting of existing grasses. He both estimated and completed the work in a timely manner and was really helpful suggesting good ideas that would work well for us - he created a good working partnership with his customers. We felt his prices were fair and reasonable. He left our job site clean and picked up. We enjoyed having him here!

Tom complete reinvigorated our patio and steps into a basically brand new patio. He raised the pavers and fixed the steps and it is now safe again. Tom offers great solutions and stays in communication throughout the project. Such a great experience. Highly recommend for your landscaping needs!

We had a sump drainage problem at our old house that Tom had fixed. When we moved into our new house, we had the same problem. Essentially the original pipelines aren’t long enough and you end up getting a wet spot in your lawn. Also, by not running the pipelines far enough, your sump pump will go off more which can lead to premature wear and failure of the sump pump because the water is basically recycled through with nowhere else to go. Tom and his team did an excellent job with the new French drain/sump pipelines. He fixed the wet spot issues in both houses. I would definitely recommend Tom and his team if you have drainage issues since they are probably the only people within the twin cities that know how to do a French drain properly and grade it so that the water flows to where it needs to go, away from the house. Communication was excellent. Tom kept us in the loop and got back to us in a timely manner. Updating us with pictures and plans throughout the extent of the project.
