There simply is no other company in NJ of this quality. A highly trained arborist took time with us, discussed our need and communicated swiftly throughout; he even came himself to get the crew set-up on the day the work took place. The crew members were SUPERIOR in every way; they did an excellent job in a very challenging urban backyard. Simply the BEST. AND this company cares about the safety of their high-climbing employees and the workers on the ground--that really matters to me.

Great experience working together! Had a big project removing trees and cabling, the entire team is professional, they worked fast, cleaned everything after work was done. DO NOT USE Downes for ANY chemical applications… their products are under mixed and over concentrated… they nearly killed all 6 of my gorgeous established cherry trees, extensive damage to boxwoods, and burned my grass from their hose lines …. I am extremely disappointed and have to hope that with a tremendous amount of care, I can recover all plant materials … do not pay for their chemical services … you will regret it

Just wanted to officially thank the crew from Downes that was working in Plainfield after the recent surprise storm. The crew was dispatched via PSEG and showed up in the middle of the night to remove the tree that fell on our house. The job was taken care of professionally and extremely quickly considering that it was the middle of the night and they were only working with truck lights. The team of three communicated so well together and they demonstrated how well they know each other. I am very appreciative, and I would highly recommend that team. Not that I am asking but should anything happen that needs a tree service again, I WANT to have those guys.

Our township sent Downes to remove a tree and then back to grind the stump. Excellent job both times and the cleanup after stump removal (what a complete mess that makes) was nothing short of impeccable. Watching the team clean up was enjoyable like watching a ballet. Excellent job.

An absolute nightmare from start to finish. Months of waiting, wasted time, and in the end—arrogance and zero professionalism. Peter came out months ago to look at our tree issues, we patiently waited through the winter for their availability, only to have Tom (who acted like some senior authority) show up and then abruptly refuse to take the job.

No explanation, no courtesy, just a dismissive ‘not interested.’ Who treats customers like that?

If you want a company that cares more about flexing their ego than actually helping clients, Downes is your place. The arrogance and bad attitude were off the charts—condescending, dismissive, and completely unprofessional.

Thankfully, their refusal forced us to find another company—who was not only far more professional and polite, but also cheaper and did an incredible job.

My advice: steer clear of Downes. Don’t waste your time waiting months only to be insulted. There are better companies out there who will treat you with respect and actually want your business!

In calm windless weather tree on our backyard suddenly fell down. Fortunately no one was hurt. Downes Tree Service was chosen to clean up the remains of the tree. The team arrived at the house at 7 am and by 8 am the work was completed, the site was cleaned, branches and parts of trunk were moved very careful to the cars on the road and the backyard was cleaned. Thanks.

This year I met this company twice, for the second time just recently. A large branch fell down on our backyard from one of the old trees belonging to the city and adjacent to our house. The city decided that it is better to cut tree down and eliminate the risk of the falling tree on the house. This time, the tree process of cutting tree was completely different. Employees of the Downes brought the Teupen platform. The team of 5 employees (Jay, Cesar, Victor, Carlos and Jose F.) worked professionally and quickly. One of them operated platform from the moving cabin. He raised the cabin almost to the very top of the tree. I have not yet seen this device in action in your city and it made a big impression on me. I took several photos. My wife and I left our house before the job was done. When we returned the team already left the workplace. Everything on front and backyards was clean. To move Teupen to the backyard the team needed to dislocate part of the fence, which was build to protect our small greenhouse. When we were back even the fence was moved to the previous place. The job was done extremely professionally and I think that company Downes and the employees of the company deserve the highest praise and I refer them to anybody, who looks for this type of job. Also I would like to thanks our town managers for selection of such a reliable company.

We had an exceptional experience with Downes Tree Service. Kevin came and gave us a totally reasonable estimate to remove our 75ft twin bark White Pine tree. A tree that made us exceedingly nervous with recent wind events. Located in our backyard, with only access through our neighbors backyard, the entire crew, including a crane and bucket truck, removed the tree and its debris in less than 5 hours . Handled properly and professionally, we totally recommend Downes for any tree removals, large or small.

my coworker gave them a rug to clean, not only did they not get the stains out, but they didnt even give the rug back! nice business

Overall I had a great experience with this service. They responded to my outreach within minutes which was a huge plus, and were flexible on dates. I was a little apprehensive when we needed a translator during the start to explain what I needed, but the work done over the few hours was exceptional. The two person team went above and beyond what I asked and I'll likely sign up for another round in the coming months.

We like to have a professional home cleaning done 1-2x a year. They did a wonderful job and we will definitely have them come back again!
