I recently hired Hillsdale Landscaping because he came highly recommended for a few different friends locally. My experience with Chris the owner was excellent. He guided me through the landscape design process and turned the front of my house into something you would see in a magazine! He even steered me away from plants I was picking out that were VERY expensive because he didn't feel they would do well in a particular shady area. To me that shows he's about doing a quality job not just making a quick buck. He was also very knowledgeable as to what the deer would eat and what they wouldn't. Overall excellent experience and I would recommend him to anyone!

I don't think people truly understand how much goes into labor intensive jobs. Especially ones that result in truly exceptional work. The vision you have coming to life in hours as it cultivated in your head for months, and longer in many cases. It isn't just what you see during the process or the end result, it is a culmination of talent, experience, customer driven ideas coupled with the expertise of said craft and the team they have to bring that dream to fruition.

Chris and his team took an oddly designed piece, with space constrictions, that needed life, and they gave it just that.

We had been without flowers and plants in the front of our home for nearly 3 years. The previous design was overgrown and was planted without rhyme nor reason. I ripped the majority of it out thinking I would be able to design and do this without an issues, and mind you, at a fraction of the cost. I thought I could do what they do. So, 3 years later, being frustrated and wrong about my ability to design, I reached out to Chris, a friend for over 25 years.
We talked for bit, he stopped by and after a few texts with the wife and myself, he understood, despite my "scrambled, all over the place ideas, offering up to him as many please avoids, as likes and wants, all the while constantly conveying, "Do what you think will look good, I trust you."

Day of, Chris shows up, on time, began to work, laid out the design and finished in half a day. I don't know much about flowers or plants, nor design, and most times, when work is being done, I say thanks, great job, and then find a laundry list of things I don't like, should have been changed and I should have spoke up situations and then rationalize everything for weeks. But his work and communication made the process easy, simple and it came to life in mere hours.

Sometimes, when you have friends do work, you are worried about expectations or end results more because you know them and the awkward nature of disappointment in the results if unsatisfied and how that can affect friendship. My wife and I, if anything, didn't stress how it would look in the end because I know the quality of his work. He brought a poorly designed front of house to life and I am both grateful and impressed.
I have never suggested anybody but Chris and his team to anyone that is need of his type of services. There is simply no reason to speculate when you know, 100% of the time, the finish will be worth more than the headache of putting your trust in another.

Chris and his team did a tremendous job cleaning out our backyard. Chris came by the house for a quote within hours after our first phone call. After walking the property, he was able to give a clear description and recommendations on what needed to be done in order to spruce up the yard and to put in a perimeter fence. He understood we had a deadline for the fence installation and made sure to have everything completed by then, which he did. Given the size of the property, Chris and his team were able to dispose years worth of leaves/branches/debris, clear out multiple saplings and lay wood chips in a timely fashion without sacrificing quality. He was courteous and professional as well. Will definitely keep in contact with him for future projects.

Chris completely transformed our yard! We had removed some overgrown landscaping and had a blank slate. Chris helped us design the space, offering creative ideas and went above and beyond in creating a beautiful landscape that wraps around our whole house - truly changing the appearance of our yard. Chris and his team were super responsive, professional in their work, and really dedicated to making sure we were happy. I would highly recommend them! We have gotten so many compliments from our neighbors!

I found Chris to be very knowledgeable with great attention to detail. My house, which was built in 2015 had flooding from the remnants of hurricane Ida. Apparently, everything was in place from drains to seepage pits, but still got water. I had the original builder and an engineer evaluate and they could not come up with a reason why this should have happened. Chris was the only person to discover that the existing drains were clogged and there wasn't one that drained away from the house. He made the repairs and added another drain and have had no issues since.

We hired Hillsdale Landscaping to soil and seed our backyard and to deliver and lay a few yards of river rock. While here preparing for that, Chris discovered and made us aware of a serious drainage problem we had, as the result of a previous job left unfinished by another contractor. We asked Chris if he could fit in fixing that problem for us, and he agreed without hesitation. Chris and his team were able to complete all of this in less than 2 days, and we are very happy with the results. Not only did the guys do very professional work, they were also kind and courteous local guys. I highly recommend Chris at Hillsdale Landscaping.

The solutions he offers are flexible and is willing to adapt to various budget constraints. His work on my gutter drains and yard clean up has been exceptional and I am able to enjoy my space again. We went from a dust bowl/ mud pit to a beautifully landscaped and manicure backyard. Chris has a great eye and ideas for all your landscaping needs. He is professional and loves what he does. He pays attention to the little details like pitching the grade correctly where others we had look mentioned nothing of that nature. He and his brother are great guys. Any other work we need done in the future Hillsdale is our go to. I highly recommend for your landscaping needs.

When it started, it was from connecting with an old Dumont resident and reminiscing about all the times growing up. Chris has been a stand-up guy from day one. My in-laws moved to Dumont into a newly renovated house but unfortunately had to deal with the streams and overflow of excess water that is common in Dumont. Chris came in immediately, made an assessment, and got to work.
It’s been one year since he started working on the house, and to date, they’ve had zero water in the basement. This is a huge relief, especially considering that two years ago, their house was filled with almost 4 feet of water during a hurricane. Now, even during rainstorms, there’s no anxiety about water entering the basement, thanks to the adequate drainage system that Chris built in the yard.
Chris often stops by to check on everything and ensure it’s all working efficiently. I don’t even know where to begin to say thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have made my in-laws enjoy their new home in Dumont with the peace of mind that their house won’t flood.

Chris is someone I would recommend to anyone. We had a very challenging job and he essentially transformed our entire backyard and installed proper drainage. He is someone who will work with you and adjust as needed. Someone who will make recommendations but won’t be pushy. We had the two record rain storms that did a lot of damage to everyone’s properties and Chris came back the next week to repair and helped us plan and install additional drainage from what we saw from the storm. He’s checked in every week to see how everything is going since and I’ve reached out to him as well on questions I have and he gets back to you very quickly. I’ll definitely be hiring Chris and his crew again.

I want to give serious praise to Chris and the entire team at Hillsdale Landscaping for a "job well done"! I'm a first-time homeowner, and I wasn't expecting to have to address multiple drainage issues. I had other contractors come out to give me advice, but they wanted to do things that did not actually address the problem. I realized that it was time for me to bring in a professional as it relates to drainage. I reached out to Chris for a consultation, and he showed up at my house and talked about what he would recommend for the better part of an hour. I immediately felt comfortable that he knew what he was talking about. His plan of action matched exactly what I thought needed to happen to solve my issues. He recommended that we install two drains along the driveway to move water away from the house, another drain in the backyard, repitch the patio so the water wouldn't sit on my patio and backflow into the house and add topsoil to give certain areas a better grade.
I was able to have an open dialogue with Chris throughout the entire process and he responded to texts promptly. Chris was always on site with his crew and made sure his workers were doing quality work. All throughout the project, I felt informed and like I made the right decision about who I hired. I still feel like I can call Chris for anything related to the project and he would show up as soon as he could.
In addition to the drainage work, I also had Chris and his construction team finish off my garage. They added new windows, reworked some electrical so that I could install an AC, and added wall paneling to cover the insulation. The garage is now comfortable to be in and even my wife approves of it.
Ultimately, I strongly endorse Chris and Hillsdale Landscaping for any drainage work.

I continue to use Chris for various services. Just recently, he expertly trimmed all of the various shrubs throughout my property. I know that I can always count on Chris for anything that I may need. Highly recommended!

Chris and his team literally saved my life and my family's home. After briefing him on the issues I was having after big storms he was able to put a drainage system together that was within our budget and very effective. Instead of standing by with a shopvac during this latest storm I was able to enjoy more stress free time with my family. Worth every dollar and more. Can't thank him enough!!

Chris helped us get rid of drainage issues around our foundation by installing a curtain drain system and adding soil to slope away from the house. He also caught a plugged gutter line from the previous owners and corrected it by adding new lines. Would highly recommend for drainage issues.

Hiring Chris and his team to fix a disastrous property situation has been the best move I’ve made in a long time. We had a terrible drainage situation in our backyard with water pooling everywhere including the foundation, a collapsing newly built stone wall and water spewing from underneath our driveway after every rain storm. Chris made a “holistic” diagnosis which included tree removal and pruning to bring more sunlight to the property, replacement of sod with beautiful rocks on the shady side of our property, and his famous drainage solution that helped channel surface water away from our drowning property. Chris cares about the final product both from a functional and aesthetic perspective. He is a standup guy who’s completely transformed our backyard into an enjoyable and beautiful place. Chris is one of the most helpful individuals we know - he has helped us with so many aspects our new property and neighborhood. He even recommended the best chiropractor after my wife fell down the stairs.
