Outstanding Craftsmanship and Even Better Customer Service! C&R installed my sewer line over 25 years ago. Coordination and install of the sewer line was superb. When I called recently for a copy of my install records. Lori was the most pleasant person I've worked with in many years! She went above and beyond, was extremely helpful and provided documentation that exceeded my expectations! Highly recommend.

This is Lori from C & R Utilities Inc. I would like to respond to Pat Bandyo’s review. I apologize for the long review, but there are many points to address. The first thing I will say is this is not his real name and I don’t understand why he wouldn’t use his real name. Next the part about Mike having eye surgery is correct. Unfortunately, Mike had a detached retina and was not able to work for a long period of time. I did apologize for having such a delay in starting his job. As far as “jacking” up the price from $4100 to $5800 the owner fails to mention he was given an estimate and never signed the contract or gave a deposit at the initial time the price was given. It was years later that he had called again and wanted us to do the work. I did explain because so much time had passed since the initial estimate that our prices went up due to inflation so Mike would have to come out again and rewrite the proposal. Mike explained to him that piping material went up dramatically as well as fuel and labor costs so we could not do the work for the same cost. He did sign the contract the end of May 2022 and our policy is to wait for the deposit check to clear before we mail out any permit package. We did mail the permit package out to him on May 31st. We were not “dilly-dallying” preparing the permit application and he was informed several times that it does take the township weeks to issue the permits. It is up the owner to take the paperwork over to the township and pay all necessary fees. At one point he called to complain that he wasn’t aware of the fees that the township were charging and was upset about that. I explained we have no control over the connection and/or permit fees. In addition the permit package that we sent to him there was a copy of the letter from the township outlining the fees. I also do not know how long he had the permit application before he brought it over to the township. We also have no control over the time it takes the township to issue the permits and this also was explained to him many times. The owner did call us on July 19th to say he had the permit, but also said he didn’t want the work started until after August. As far as updating him I did reach out to him several times via phone and email explaining the delay and also updating him when Mike went for his follow up appointments. I did apologize, but reiterated we would schedule the installation when Mike was cleared to work from the doctor. Once Mike was cleared from the doctor we tried to schedule the installation, but he would say it wasn’t a good time or wanted to wait because he was traveling or busy. The installation was scheduled on November 28t, 2022 and completed on November 30th. When the job was inspected the inspector did give us the inspection sticker which is the custom. The inspector does not provide the sticker “to anybody on the street”. When we completed the backfill and Mike asked for the payment the owner started coming up with excuses as to why he wasn’t paying at the time. He wanted us to come back at another time later in the week. Mike explained he would not give the owner the approval sticker until he received payment. We did not have “any under the table deal” with the inspector and to suggest that is ridiculous. When we backfilled the trench we did leave it mounded and explained it will settle over time usually about 4-6 weeks depending on the weather. He called us a few days after the installation and wanted it flattened out, but we explained we do not do that as stated in the contract.

I signed contract with Mike Maurer(C&R utilities) in May for new sewer line. Earlier he quoted $4100 but this time he jacked up the price to $5800. I signed because he promised to finish it in less than a month after permit, he was dilly-dallying preparing the permit application and did not inform me. Eventually I picked up the permit on July 19th and asked him via email (he never picks up the phone, his assistant Lori communicates via email when it is convenient for her) to schedule it ASAP. No response. On Aug 8, Lori said Mike has eye surgery. Since then I called/email multiple times without any update from them. Actually there was not a single time they provided any update on the progress on their own. I asked them to return the deposit, they keep providing one excuse or other. Then finally they scheduled the sewer installation end of Nov/Dec. Due to the delay I asked for discount. After the work, the west windsor township inspector gave the approval sticker to Mike although I, the owner was in front of him. Mike told (blackmailed) me that he will not provide me the approval sticker until I pay the full money. I do not know if Mike had any under the table deal with the inspector. Inspector's office told me that they can provide the sticker to anybody on the street, even if I am present. Go figure. After the work he filled the ditch with mound of soil promising that the mound will level off by spring. It did not. When I contacted Lori to level it off since the mound was a tripping hazard, she took no responsibility. I had to pay someone to get it fixed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CONTRACTOR!!!!!

Having been through a sewer line install & septic abandonment before, I knew what to expect. I needed to find an experienced contractor/plumber who would also keep me updated every step of the way. I found this in Mike Maurer and Lori Donelan of C & R Utilities. When I first met with Mike to provide me with an estimate, he was very thorough explaining exactly what would be done. I was very concerned, as my connection would have to run under a fence, lined with full grown arborvitaes, in order to hook up with the township’s sewer line which was located on the property of an adjacent commercial building. In addition, the area he would be working in was less than ten feet wide. Mike assured me that this could be accomplished and met with the contractor’s representative to go over various specs. & issues, as well as alleviate my anxiety. I knew that I had made the right decision. Other contractors that I had met with had either hesitated or did not feel it was necessary for them to do this. In addition, several of my arborvitaes would be destroyed in the process. Once the project was started, Lori kept in contact with me every step of the way. From the contract; to submission of the application to the town, to permitting, to inspection, to the very end of the project. Her knowledge of the necessary procedures and pleasant personality made her a joy to deal with. Any questions/concerns I had, were answered immediately. From start to finish, the weather held out, and the project was completed in four days. My property was restored, no arborvitaes were destroyed in the process, and Mike even left me with extra soil, as the backfill over the septic areas and sewer line would freeze and settle over time, especially as the temperatures are now at or below freezing. As to Mike’s pricing, it was very fair. I have already recommended C & R to my neighbor, and I would not hesitate to recommend their services to others.
