Green Jay Landscaping has been a joy to work with. Jay and his team created a gorgeous landscape for our home with various native plants and flowers. The work was done with such thoughtfulness, artistry and high concept to delight both the senses and pollinators. Green Jay is an environmental steward that is incredibly passionate, highly knowledgeable and professional. From concept to execution, every detail was given a high level of attention. We knew we made the right choice in Green Jay when he started to present us with his concept for our home.

This was not only a wise investment for our home and our domestic wellness, but a loving gesture to planet earth as well. Our family, small children included, are grateful to walk barefoot on our property to feel the grounding and healing support of clean, synthetic chemical-free earth beneath our feet. If you desire beautiful, high quality, natural design with a heavy dose of monarch butterflies, Jay is your guy.

After reading glowing reviews and scrolling through his beautiful portfolio of projects completed, we enthusiastically entrusted Jay with the task of re-imagining and re-designing our overgrown, weedy, partially rocky, terraced, hillside landscape. Without being daunted by these challenges, Jay and Uziel aptly named our project, “Up on the Hill, Through the Looking Glass,” and proceeded to create a stunning natural landscape, filled with the most lovely native plants and pollinators, which can be seen through our wall of windows. Watching Jay “hands on” rummage through existing plant material to eliminate aggressive weeds/vines and preserve, divide, and relocate salvageable plant material, was impressive. Although they had designed a formal plan for this area, Jay and Uziel’s decisions on how to blend the selection of new flowers and grasses with salvaged plant material, seemed instinctive. After working with Jay and Uziel, we have become more appreciative of the value of often overlooked native flowers and of the subtle beauty of these flowers when planted in combination. Jay was passionate about our project and determined to achieve a healthy native garden environment; a mini ecosystem. He has returned several times to check on the garden’s progress. It’s been about a month since our project was completed, and we are surprised and delighted everyday by new blooms and by the array of birds and butterflies that frequent our garden. Without hesitation, we recommend Green Jay Landscaping.

Jay is an ecologist by training, and is incredibly knowledgeable about native species, pollinators, and how to mix beauty with functionality in landscaping. Green Jay doesn’t do maintenance, but if you’re looking to swap out your sterile, monoculture landscaping for something that will cover your yard in butterflies and bees, these are your people.

They aren’t cheap, but you do get what you pay for and then some. Not only am I extremely happy with all of the new life in my yard, but Jay has always been very patient and responsive to my questions and concerns.

We worked with Green Jay Landscaping this spring to re-landscape the front of our home and a largish area on the side of our property that had been overgrown by invasive plants for many years. The work began with a consultation with Jay Archer, president of the firm, and we were impressed his aesthetic sense, deep knowledge of horticulture, native species, and his passionate commitment to creating a more environmentally friendly landscape. We’re bird watchers so we were especially pleased by Jay’s selection of plantings that are not only pretty look at but attract birds, and butterflies as well. The actual work took about two weeks and went very smoothly. The Green Jay team was truly impressive. Bottom line? We wish we had worked with Jay a long time ago, because the plantings he put in look really great—so much better than what had been there before. We can’t recommend Green Jay Landscaping strongly enough!

My experience with Green Jay could have not been more over the moon. He and his stellar crew of designers and gardeners provided me with two beautiful beautiful sun/shade pollinator gardens. Jay’s design and his team’s execution of it are superb. When designing rhe garden/landscape renovation, I had three primary considerations: 1) eclogical - the garden is for the planet, not just for me; 2) esthetic - the landscape should be beautiful and feed the human spirit; 3) ease of maintainance.

Working with Green Jay has been a pleasure. Their project estimates with detailed plant lists allowed me to review and discuss choices before installation. When some plants were not available or didn’t quite work where planned, we were able to discuss and agree on changes. The professionals are very knowledgeable and committed to landscapes that support nature and ecological priorities. The crew is friendly and efficient. It’s not cheap and I didn’t expect it to be, but the price is fair for the quality and skill involved. The result is nothing less than spectacular. I am thrilled with Green Jay’s work.

The whole process was a pleasure! From consultation to installation it felt like an adventure. Jay & crew listened and really interpreted my thoughts and created a plan that not only was creative and complete but included plants and hardscape visions that captured things that I love but hadn’t thought to mention! Green Jay designer, Kathryn embraced what landscape existed and expanded it so that it became clean, cohesive and complete and fit the house and my vision of how the house should look. The installation crew was great. Neat, thoughtful and flexible. A few tweaks along the way as ideas occurred to me were taken into consideration and done. I felt very much like part of the process. After consultations with several other landscapers, meeting Jay and his crew was like a breath of fresh air! Upon his first visit, you could already see the wheels turning in his mind of the possibilities for our space. When they returned for a project presentation, we were blown away! They had completely reimagined the way that our home could look – clearing plants that were obstructing the view and bringing in more beautiful, suitable pieces, and reshaping our space in ways that we had not imagined. They also delivered more than just a pretty setting. They took structural issues into consideration so that runoff water could be appropriately managed, rather than pooling by walls (as was previously the case).

I did not want a super manicured, high-maintenance yard. It was important that any plantings be sustainable for me in terms of maintenance and attractive to birds and bees. Jay brought a wealth of expertise and experience in this area and gave us great recommendations. He also staged out the project so that we didn’t have to take on everything at once.

As others have mentioned, their follow-up post-job is fantastic. Unfortunately in my experience, most contractors are impossible to reach once they have received their final payment–not Green Jay! It seems like they genuinely care about the success of the landscaping project and carry out follow-up visits just to make sure things are going as planned. They are easily reachable and always responsive. I highly recommend their services!

If you can afford the best, forget the rest.

Jay Archer and the whole Green Jay team are the best contractors I’ve ever hired for anything in 22 years in Westchester…and I’ve hired many. From the first visit to the design presentation to plant selection to soil remediation to hardscape choices to planting, each stage was executed according to clear & transparent communication.

How refreshing to work with folks who take their job seriously, are open to learning new things and love what they do. Every job will have some unexpected challenges but Jay, Lora, Uzi, Aztlan and the whole crew are responsive, thoughtful and nimble, calmly solving any glitch. Throughout the process communication was stellar, which is the key to success in every endeavor.

The results were better than I could have hoped. Jay & Uzi took a neglected, steep, weed infested, post-home construction (debris-strewn) back yard and turned it into my dream permaculture food forest. Native flowers, shrubs and trees coexist between a series of switchback pathways that take advantage of the natural slope. Piece de resistance is the recirculating waterfall. It looks as if we have a stream running towards the Hudson River. The sound is magical.

There are too many little details that coalesce to create this Hastings idyll to list but don’t take my word for it, ask the bees and birds and butterflies and worms. This land will continue to give nutrition and joy to all living things for decades.

Now stop reading reviews, call your broker to sell some of that overvalued stock & go hire Green Jay Landscaping. For the kids.
