Recently, our family made the exciting decision to install an inground pool at our home in Farmington, NY. We had been referred to a reputable local pool company, and we moved forward with purchasing our pool through them. Like many families, we were full of excitement—already imagining pool parties, barbecues, and countless summer memories with friends and family.

But that excitement quickly turned to overwhelm.

To our surprise, the pool company we chose did exactly what they said they would do—install the pool. That’s it. No design. No plan. No next steps. We were left with a massive investment... and no real idea how to bring the rest of our backyard vision to life.

After talking to other pool owners, we found out this was common. We were expected to act as our own general contractor—finding and hiring a designer, electrician, plumber for the gas line, landscaper to fix the yard, mason for the patio, and a fencing contractor to meet code. It felt like we were left to figure it all out on our own.

Thankfully, that’s when we were introduced to Kyle Stevens at Lux Pool & Spa and KDS Design Studios in Mendon, NY.

From the first conversation, everything changed.

Kyle and his team specialize in taking the pain out of the pool-building process. Not only did they step in with a beautiful design, but they also worked directly with our original pool installer—even though he was technically a competitor. They helped properly locate the pool, set the grade, and coordinated all the required trades. Most importantly, they kept us informed, aligned, and confident every step of the way.

What we got was clarity. A clear plan. Clear expectations. And ultimately? They saved us months of stress—and money.

Lux Pool & Spa didn’t just help us finish our pool project—they rescued it. They treated it like it was their own, even though the pool wasn’t purchased through them. Who does that? They do.

If you’re thinking about getting an inground pool—or even if you’ve already started the process—I can’t recommend Lux Pool & Spa highly enough. Don’t make this kind of investment without a real plan and the right people by your side.

Kyle at LUX Outdoor Living is the best of the best. From the first call through the entire design process and execution he is there with you every step of the way. His approach is extremely well rounded in regards to professionalism, expertise in the field, respect, communication, accountability, and most importantly transparency throughout the process in explaining the steps so you never feel left in the dark. He has a way of calming your nerves and reassuring you in what could otherwise be a very overwhelming process. He is honest and will express any concerns he might have as he always looks out for his clients’ best interests.

From the minute you hire LUX it feels like you have the best in your corner. Kyle communicates well with any other contractors that may be involved in the project, even if he is working with them for the first time. His communication through his online portal is thoroughly organized and always dependable making everything seamless. (You can find everything there from initial questionnaires, concepts, measurements, site pictures, communications, site surveys etc.) We live in Buffalo, NY while he is stationed out of Rochester and this had no impact on anything, in fact I’m confident you could work with him completely virtually.

Lastly, and mainly, his design skills are unmatched. He truly listens to what you like and are looking for in a design. He puts himself in your shoes to create the best outdoor living atmosphere for you. On top of having insane talent to create something aesthetically amazing and timeless, he understands and has experience in the feasibility/execution aspect such as property permits/easements/variables, understanding grades and pitches, knowing where to put gas lines, or place a pool pumps and filters for best performance, or placing conduits for sprinkler system, etc. No detail is left forgotten.

We are extremely happy with our experience and feel blessed to have found Kyle and work with his company!

It’s a pleasure to write a review of the work designed by Kyle Stevens of the LUX company. Communication with Kyle was straightforward and the work proceeded in a timely manner. The masons were pleasant and punctual; it took approximately one week for completion, with the exception of one rain day.
The quality of the stoop, steps and walkway speak for themselves. I don’t think work of this expertise is usually found in a suburban neighborhood. The addition of garden beds are to highlight the flagstone walk and give contrast to the greys and browns of the stones.

I was there with my 2 kiddos today. They had a very nice selection to choose from. They helped when I had questions and they took the time to ask me if I needed any help. I'm planning on going back tomorrow with pictures and pick out flowers that will look great with the awesome help of Kim!

They did a fantastic and professional job doing our landscaping. Plus, we needed the work done in just a couple of weeks and they were able to squeeze us into their schedule. We can't thank them enough!

I have dealt with Michael Wightman for over 2 years. He always knows the best way to take care of a lawn. My back lawn has a rough hill. Michael realized right away that the mower was going to dig up the lawn, so he opted to use a weed whacker on the steepest part of the lawn. He is always a perfect gentleman and does anything he needs to do to make sure his customers are happy. ☺

Chris and his team have done two jobs for us and both have been fantastic. He "gets" what we are going for and put together solid plans that we were very happy with. And his crew knocked out both jobs in a day and for way less than we expected. We're very pleased and it's great that they're right around the corner from us!

Chris and his team of long term employees did an incredible job on our hardscape and landscape project. This is the second time we have worked with them on a major yard project in addition to planting maple trees for us. Their attention to detail created a finished entry landscape above and beyond our expectations. Chris listened to my change requests and he and his crew implemented them without complaint. We are so happy we chose PTL again for our most important landscape project!

It's May 2025 and here to provide update on large trees we bought from Pittsford Tree and Landscape (aka Village Garden Store) and they planted in Fall 2022. We've been trying for two years to get them to take responsibility and honor their written guarantee but to no avail. The attached photos were taken on May 7, 2025. They show the ridiculous way they chopped the root ball and then planted it bare root. This Sunburst Locust tree never had a chance of successfully transplanting.

What replays with us are Bevin's initial words when we originally reached out with concerns about the health of the tree. She said, "Don't worry, I've never replaced a Locust tree." Well that's still true! Even when the tree dies and we are out significant money and need to start over with a reputable nursery, she NEVER REPLACED A LOCUST TREE!!

AVOID BOTH PITTSFORD TREE & LANDSCAPE AND VILLAGE GARDEN STORE!!! Dishonest and a disgrace to small businesses.

They won’t honor their written 2 year guarantee on 2 large trees we purchased and they planted in October 2022. We have been trying to address issues with these trees since spring 2023 and still don’t have a resolution 18 months later! Bevin never returns our calls or emails so we have driven to the nursery several times. Each time she lies to us and promises to come to inspect and trim the trees but does not follow through. She offered to extend the warranty to 3 years but refused to put it in writing. My last communication was requesting resolution sent a month ago via USPS Certified Mail…no response! We love to support small businesses but this one is terrible. They use the name of Pittsford Tree and Landscape, as well as Village Garden Store & Nursery. Attaching a picture of our Sunburst Locust tree in August…not exactly thriving.
