Absolutely horrible company and service.
1) They delivered oil to some other address and charged me for it;
2) Then, they mandated that they "send a technician out" to confirm that they had not delivered oil to me (which he clearly confirmed - and also "serviced" my furnace) and charged me for that;
3) Then, my furnace stopped working immediately following that "service" so, I had to have ANOTHER service tech come out - and they charged me even MORE for that;
All the while, NEVER adjusting my bill, despite multiple, repeated calls and conversation with them about these issues.
Absolutely no accountability or follow-through. Horrible service. I'd give it zero stars, if this site would let me. -
Top service. Chris M came by, he is the most professional and knowledgable specialist I have ever met. We are coming from Slomins and we want to show our gratitude towards Petro as it is not even comparable the difference in the level of service. 10/10.

We've been using Petro for a number of years, and the other morning ran into our first ever problem with the boiler. They got an appointment quickly for us, and the service tech Sasha was great. He took the time to explain what the issue was, what he would be doing to fix it and was done withing the timeframe he provided. Everything is working great now & we have heat and hot water again! Thanks so much for the great service!

Canceled my heating oil delivery service due to extreme high prices and poor customer service. Months later they delivered again and immediately sent the bill to collections. Nasty people!

I bought my house a year and a half ago. Always had natural gas and bleeder valves on the baseboards growing up. First time experiencing a closed loop circuit and an oil heater. Baseboards in my bedrooms were cold. Called Petro to come take a look and I couldn’t be happier that Tommy Cassano showed up. He was able to not only bleed the system efficiently and quickly, but was able to give me some advice that not most others would. If I ever need another service/tune up, I will be specifically asking for Tommy.

Petro/General is the best. The employees are great. Their processes and training are above as well as their behavior, their accountability and their consistency. They know about service. They are an excellent company.

Make sure you cancel your contract with them over the phone if you don’t they will charge you the maximum

I have been a customer for 10 years. 2 days ago, we ran out of oil and called them for a refill. Until today, we are still out of oil, our house is freezing cold and we don’t have hot water. I have made countless phone calls to ask for delivery. Until tonight, all they tell us is that they will send a technician to us tomorrow morning.

Terrible experience with their management. Non responsive to clients issue with Petro installation team. I would not feel comfortable letting them in my home again. Made my family feel uncomfortable ! They were disrespectful, inept at doing the correct work needed to have service come back several times and left the work area a mess. Management had nothing to say or offer corrective measure. Really disappointing!

Do yourself a favor and stay away from Petro.
I knew when I signed up for them about 1 1/2 years ago that they were the high priced provider. I figured at least the service would be good...I was wrong. Getting them on the phone is a hassle. Then getting a reasonable response is even worse.
I have been on autopay and auto delivery so haven't been paying much attention to the oil price. Then a few weeks ago I got a delivery and the price seemed totally unreasonable. I called around and found out that Petro was $.95/gallon higher then the next most expensive provider in my area. I called Petro to see if they wold give me a more reasonable price. Of course, I had to go through ,utiple people and pultiple conversations before I got a ..well..we will give you a $50 credit. This was obviosly miniscule since my delivery was close to 400 gallons. Then I found outt hat sometime between me finally getting in touch with a salesperson to discuss the price and my call withth operator a few days prior that my account was put on "pause" without even informing me. I guess that is Petro's modus operandi whenever a customer calls and says the price it to high. They just freeze the account and don't tell the customer. Good thing I didn't wait for them for my next delivery. After I spoke to customer service and got my $50 credit and had my account reinstated, I decided to shop around for a new oil company.
After finding a new company the following week, I called Petro to cancel my account. I had to speak to three people over two days to get the account closed. Everybody I spoke to,,after grilling me about my new company, new price,etc, then said they didn't have the authority to close the account ( Funny how the main operator froze my account just a couple weeks prior.). In the end I just hung up because at no point would agree to close the account. An hour later I got an email the account was closed. They rescinded my $50 credit.
Ther is nothing good to say about this company. Service is mediocre and best and they don't really seem honest overall. They seem to be trained to give people the runaround. -
My recent experience reviewing bills, overages, price ceiling plans, and balanced budgeting (for two homes!) went surprisingly well!
The rep was patience, listened to my concerns and needs, and worked with me to explain the options that in the end got me exactly where I wanted to be. Give the complexity, one of the best customer service experiences I ever had. Kudos to the Customer Care team! -
We wanted to pause our deliveries because we were moving. They said they would put a pause on our deliveries. They ended up not doing so and shipped oil to a house…we no longer live in. Then they said the best they can do is give us a small discount..for oil we aren’t even using. Spoke to so many people but no one wanted to help but they admitted that after listening to the phone call (because all phone calls are recorded) and said it was their employees fault for not putting a hold on it as they said they would but there was still nothing they can do besides…a discount. Been with them for years but that’s how they treat their loyal customers. Now we canceled our contract and got a way better deal and better service.
EDIT: So surprisingly I did get a call from someone named Kaitlyn who actually showed customer service and seems to actually know how to treat their customers and went above and beyond to help with the process, review everything, and finally showed some compassion and care on the situation. She helped resolve the major issues and even made it a lot easier and faster. She’s the only reason why I’m changing this 1 star to a 3 star. It sucks that this all still happened but at least they still have SOME employees who are passionate about their jobs and have great customers service skills. 5 stars for Kaitlyn for saving this company! -
Very unprofessional tech came to my house, lied that he called before then left cursing (and did not do the service) after I showed him my phone. His boss Robert called after and instead of apologizing took his guy's side, used his language.
Most unprofessional service I ever experienced!
Update (September 2025): sales "gems":
-"we cannot fill the tank if it has more than 5/8 in to avoid a spill"
-"we only fill to 80% of capacity so the driver has time to shut off the hose when he hears the whistle" these were ways to make me wait for a new, higher price contract.
Their "capped, guaranteed for 1 yr" price is $1 ( one dollar)/ gal more than the COD market price. Do your math (you'll find you would pay at least $1000 more yearly). -
Yesterday I call to refill my propane and they told me they will come in the next day and they
didn’t came -
The best service provided by a petro home service technician. I am very pleased with the service provided and results of the work. The accuracy, quality and reliability of the work provided by Petro deserves a 5 star all way! Manorhaven NY

I just had my annual A/C tune-up by Daniel. He was very thorough in checking the air handler and compressor and gave me a detailed explanation of how the system was running. Before he left he made sure that all of my concerns were addressed. 5-STAR TECH!!!

So far, so great. I chose Petro because they were persistent in wanting my business. The operator who enrolled me in their 1 year contract quickly dispatched a truck within one day to come fill my home's heating oil tank, which was badly needed right before Thanksgiving. The service technician, Christopher, who came out about 1 week later was excellent. He answered all of my many questions about the furnace, oil tank, and how to improve home heating efficiencies. The once a year furnace tune-up comes with the contract.

I have been a long time customer of Petro for both my oil and propane needs. Petro has been excellent. Fair prices, excellent technical service, excellent oil truck drivers, and readily accessible customer service whenever needed. What I like about Petro is that they have and will command whatever resources are needed to resolve any issues. They are in the "peace of mind" business. They deliver.

I signed up with Petro to fix my oil furnace, and they scheduled a technician to arrive between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Unfortunately, the technician never showed up, and I didn’t receive any communication to inform me of the delay or rescheduling. I had to call twice to follow up, only to be told that they couldn’t provide me with another time window. This level of service is deeply disappointing, especially considering I have a family relying on a warm home. It’s unacceptable for a company to show such disregard for its customers' needs. Petro should seriously reflect on its service standards.

Great company have been with them over 30years. Always deliver on time. The service department is good and the technicians. They send out really know what they're doing so great company. Great prices. You can lock in your price and you can tell them when you want them to deliver Your oil.

Petro charges way more than every other propane delivery service. They charge $5.50 a gallon. When I call and say that their delivery service is to expensive, they respond with the threat that Petro will remove the propane tanks, and good luck finding a replacement.
