Brad Davis has been very responsive to my questions and requests for coming over to check on my trees. He and the Bartlett crew do a great job with removing dead branches and applying fertilizer and treatment for disease. My yard is always left clean after they do any trimming.

The tree treatment I actually received for one of my trees appeared to work. However, communication and billing from their sales person, techs and office could never be corrected. They tried to sell me a treatment that we did not need, and cancelled before the first visit. Yet the cancellation did not get transferred to the work order. Each time (twice) the tech shows up to do the service, and we have to tell them not to do the second tree and they do not. Each time we get a bill for both and each time I call the office they say they will correct and each time the tech says it will be corrected, but it never is. We will be going elsewhere for our business since they do not seem to have their administrative act together.

Bartlett Tree Experts provided me with a an estimate and a thorough explanation of the trimming and pruning they proposed, performed the work in an efficient and professional manner, cleaned up following thier pruning and followed up with a call to make certain I was satisfied with their work. I recommend this company without reservation.

We have had a relationship with Bartlett for over 10 years to both care for our plants and trees as well as to remove trees when necessary. They are exceptional at their job, responsive to our needs and actively engaged with keeping our yard healthy and looking great.

Although I have employed other arborist services over the years, this was my first time using Bartlett Tree Experts. The Arborist Representative particularly impressed me as we surveyed my property with his sure identification of the various native tree species, of problematic invasive non-native species, of the culprits causing damage to some trees, of an insect infestation, and tips for care and maintenance. Also appreciated was his professionalism and courteous and cheerful demeanor. Likewise, his work crew were friendly and professional, taking pride in the quality of their labor (from pruning to felling to chipping to cleanup), effectively working with each other as a team (and with me, where I could make myself useful) to insure everything was done according to plan. It made for a most pleasant and productive day. Finally, I also should mention that I found the price to be competitive and that safety was a top concern, both in the hazardous nature of the work (there was some tree climbing) and in operating under pandemic conditions.

I've been using Bartlett for the last few years and have been very happy with my experiences. My arborist, Travis, takes time to explain anything he might see and presents options with the pros and cons. I've never felt pushed to go one way or another. The crews have always been courteous and professional while leaving the site cleaner than they found it.

I highly recommend Bartlett Tree Experts! Nathan and crew are very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. We have a large white oak tree that was diseased at the lower part of trunk and attracting insects and with the treatments it has improved tremendously! They are also providing soil treatments to a japanese maple and a crepe myrtle.

Lightning struck a 120’ tulip poplar tree in our yard and the tree needed to be removed. From my first phone call until the job was done, Jordan and the two crews were outstanding. Everyone was unfailingly professional, friendly, and thorough. I’d recommend Bartlett any time!

Brad Davis and his team have been taking care of my property for a couple of years now. I've been extremely pleased with Brad's knowledge and the professionalism of his team. One of my neighbors even went out of his way to tell me how impressed he was with the Bartlett crew when they had to remove one of my trees that was threatening to fall on his property. I look forward to seeing Brad and his team every year to ensure that my property stays healthy and safe.

My huge, very old white oak needed some expert trimming. Bartlett Tree Experts sent out an arborist whose knowledge and appreciation for the tree was quite impressive. A crew came with a bucket truck to trim the tree. They worked together beautifully and expertly moved through the branches and trimmed the dead ones with precision. They left the site tidy and neat - a bit neater than they found it. I will use them again.

Fantastic customer service. We have Red Oaks which are very tricky and the individuals who planted them originally did not do the proper care. Bartlett has worked with us for the past five years to make sure these trees thrive. They are absolutely beautiful and we went from considering removing them to a gorgeous backyard.

Great customer service and expertise. A number or our trees were planted incorrectly by our builder and have been struggling. Nathan from Bartlett Tree came out and diagnosed issues with some of the trees and shrubs on our property, then put together a detailed set of plant health recommendations for us to review. I was very impressed with his knowledge, attention to detail, and transparency.

Bartlett Tree Expert Company has been providing tree care for us over the past few years. They continue to do a fantastic job. Nathan Trull is our arborists and I am impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. They aren’t the cheapest company, but if you want things done right then Bartlett is the best

Highly recommend Brad Davis and the team at Bartlett Tree Service in Durham, NC. I use them to maintain the health and growth of all my bushes and trees on my property. After 5 years of their service, my Jefferson Maples in the front yard are much taller and fuller than my neighbors, with one exception. My next door neighbor who also works with Bartlett - his maples are even bigger then mine in the same time period!

A misshapen Maple tree in my yard had grown beyond my ability to prune and was encroaching on my neighbor's patio, so I sought out a company to remove one of the tree's three trunks safely and without causing damage to the houses or yard. Bartlett's tree technicians were very professional, utilized some creative and impressive rigging, and cleared the tree of a trunk and all the weirdly shaped limbs from it.

In the end, my neighbor is happy, I was very satisfied with their work, and I have lots of maple limbs to use for firewood for the upcoming winters.

Repeat customers over several years-with tricky trees on fences. Bartlett crews show up, work carefully, clean up thoroughly, and do it with the least amount of fuss. Extremely professional and dependable, a pleasure to have them take care of our trees!
2026 update-in a changing business climate, it is a pleasure to find that Bartlett still delivers excellent service. Very impressive.

We've had a couple other tree services to take down trees and Barlett is the one we will call back if we need any further help. They wore safety equipment, worked efficiently and quickly. I was so impressed watching them fell our front tree and the clean up was great as well. Thanks guys!!!

The quality of the work is not just expert but the owner and crew really seem to love what they do. There is no doubt they have great respect for the trees and the natural habitat that holds them to the earth, They do not interfere needlessly and leave as little of a footprint as imaginable. I highly recommend this company. I first met them when they removed a triple trunked oak that fell on two cars in my driveway. I created a labrynth where they so beautifully removed the remnants.

Summary: Semi-competent pruning, incompetent lab and arborist. Phone apps worked

I originally gave 4 stars to the pruning but am dropping it to three stars as it gradually became apparent that they had badly damaged the limbs at the top of a magnolia such that the upper 8 to 10 feet died. The arborist/lab star ranking stays at 1.
In the interest of clarity, I am rewriting the review to highlight the areas of deficiency:
    1. The pruning skipped one of the Japanese maples and seriously damaged a magnolia.
    2. Soil sampling never happened.
    3. The dormant oil spraying was badly done so that only the leaves were sprayed. The problematic treatment was inadvertently caught on the doorbell camera and sent to the company as part of a complaint.
    4. Most disturbing was that the obvious problems were repeatedly dismissed by the arborist. The initial concern was a severe spider might infestation that was killing landscaping that had been healthy for twenty years – most notably the Azaleas, Japanese Maples, Gardenia and Weigelas. Delays meant I had researched and treated the infestation and was now asking for help preventing a recurrence. The proposal and assessment had serious problems:
    a. The first was when I was informed that there was no real reason for concern in the first place. The spider mites could not have done as much damage as I was describing because the Bartlett lab had never been able to show that spider mites could kill branches. This information stood in marked contrast to the obviously dead sections of bushes and Japanese Maples, as well as the information available from multiple cooperative extensions.
    b. The next was a disagreement on the timing of preventive treatment. The arborist had just moved here from the northeast. I insisted that April and May are long past the timeframe for treating emerging leaves in NC.
    c. Then there was my request this past spring for an urgent evaluation of an infection of some type. Most of the plants that had been damaged were now showing brown lesions on the leaves. The azaleas had obvious severe rust infections. I did not know what was infecting the other large bushes. The arborist took a few leaf samples including from the rust. Later I was told there was no cause for concern. The Bartlett lab had not found any infection therefore the damage would not spread to the new leaves. This failure to find infection included the obvious rust.
    d. At this point I had had enough. An arborist and lab that could not diagnose rust on an azalea was too incompetent to trust. So instead, I loaded 2 free apps that identified plants and diagnosed problems by photo. The programs diagnosed the rust and the other fungal infections. I treated the bushes and trees. The brown lesions stopped spreading and the bushes and trees look much better. I now use the app, not the arborist.

From the beginning survey of our property to the completion of the work, all went smoothly. The crew who came out was delightful to work with and I so appreciated seeing a familiar face at both points. I feel comforted by the fact that Bartlett staff inspects our property every year or so and address any issues. I worry less when the wind picks up or we have ice (I know that is rare anymore but still). Highly recommend Bartlett Tree Experts.
