Hicks was terrific to work with. Our home landscape project included several elements: improving site drainage, concrete replacement, installation of artificial turf, new plantings, stone edging, irrigation system repairs, and lawn sodding and seeding. The salesman was quick and thorough in developing the landscape plan, so we were clear on what was going to be done. When the materials came in, they brought in a large and hardworking team, so the work was done quickly. They had experienced supervisors who managed the different parts of the job smoothly. When we had issues or questions come up, both the salesman and the foremen at the site were quick to respond. It seems to us that Hicks is big enough to get a job done with their own people, and small enough to care. I highly recommend them.

We had a patio and patio wall installed in our backyard. Melissa and Matt were extremely responsive to our questions and did a great job in keeping us up to speed with next steps. The team was amazing with the install. They did in three days what would have taken me three months and it looks great. Really appreciate the work done and definitely would recommend. Well done!

There was small hiccup with a product due to a supplier, but as soon as the crew realized the problem they took responsibility for it and got to work getting it corrected. I would definitely recommend Hick's Landscaping and will be using them for any landscaping needs I have in the future!

We contracted Hicks for 2500sqft of sod installation and a catch basin installation.

Ill start by saying if you are just looking for a sod installation with no extras or frills, Hicks did a fine job. When it came to doing a catch basin, it seemed as if there was little to no direction given to the field crew on where to install and how to properly backfill an excavation. The soil used to backfill, washed out in the first rain storm due to improper compaction and backfilling. Hicks attempted to address the issue by top dressing the sod in the area with sand to level it out but even that was poor quality. It came to the point where I will just fix it myself.

Communication was poor from the start and i should have known then to move forward with someone else. We had to reach out multiple times to a generic maintenance email to get an answer for scheduling, issues etc. I would suggest that a PM contact information be given from the get go.

TL:DR Version- Sod install was good, everything else was poor.

Made an appt to have an estimate 3 weeks out. Called day of to get time. Was told we called you to confirm you didn’t call back. Told them I had no vm from them. Oh well might not have left a vm. So how was I suppose to call back?? ( Went thru my call log back to date of appt 0 calls from them) Well we sent emails - what dates. Went to dates she provided. No emails. Definitely would not do business. If this is how they handles estimates imagine if something was wrong!

The team at Hicks was great! They did a big backyard re-landscaping project for me and also put in beautiful artificial grass. Matt and Pablo and all the other guys on the job were very professional and did a fantastic job! Matt was a great communicator and well organized. I highly recommend them.

I am not one to post comments, but this warrants an exception. Hicks Landscape has been maintaining our yard for the past 10+ years. We have never experienced an issue related to quality of work. I have always found Hicks to be fairly and competitively priced, and the team that visits our home each week is professional, and very conscientious. Additionally, when we have a new need, Lauren and the office staff is always responsive; and Kevin Butler is very knowledgeable, eager to meet on site, and always comes up with the right solution. What more can one say?

We loved our experience with Hicks Landscape. They installed mulch and pine straw at our house. They also did a little grading behind our fence and I was amazed at how great it looks. I told them they didn't have to spend much time back there, we don't use the space but wanted it cleared a little from the brush that had become overgrown. They went above and beyond to make that area look nice and clean. The team installing the mulch and pine straw was also very professional. They go the extra mile to make sure beds are edged and cleaned out prior to putting in anything new. My husband also went out once they had finished in the backyard to blow off the deck and furniture of the pollen and one of the crew came back in to see if it's something he could do. Definitley worth the wait. Top notch service!

Absolutely fantastic experience with Hicks. Matt was VERY knowledgeable, patient and responsive. The crew was amazing. Super hard working (excavated, graded and created/buried multiple drains in TWO DAYS). All were friendly and answered questions (and I asked a ton:) all while being cheerful. It was such an amazing positive experience. Matt was able to layout what should be done, simply. I'm in no way capable of visualizing the changes that needed to be made so he readily broke it down so that I understood every bit and piece. I had at least 12 other estimates (it was a ridiculously tricky, cumbersome set up that needed to be handled) over the course of a year and 12 completely different solutions were offered. Most were elaborate and waaaaaaay out of our price range. 95% of those wanted to talk to my husband about what needed to be done. And then would only address my husband when he was around. Matt and the crew completely respected that the woman of the house was overseeing the project from the client's end and my husband mentioned that several times to me. He respected Hicks for that. As do I. Top notch. I will always recommend to people and I will definitely be working with them again.

Hicks landscaping did an excellent job fine grading and sodding my yard after extensive outside construction. The process from initial visit to completion was professional and responsive. Matt Hutchinson really knows his stuff and was very helpful. The crew was on time and exceptionally careful during the install. The Foreman Jason was great. I would highly recommend them for any and all landscape projects....great company.

Hicks Landscaping recently helped us with several drainage issues in our yard (mostly with rerouting our downspouts) and our overall experience was fantastic!

First off, Matt was extremely detailed and knowledgeable during the consultation. He answered all subsequent questions in a timely fashion and assured us when we had any concerns. We had a competing consultation done as well and Hicks pricing was on par. Amanda was very communicative and kept us in the loop about scheduling and completing any change requests prior to the job being done.

The actual drainage work was completed in the time frame that they had communicated and the team was very professional. When they discovered an issue on our property, they took care of it promptly, and without derailing the project timeline.

After the project was done, we noticed that our sump pump drainage solution wasn't working properly due to how the water is discharged. I notified Hicks and it was taken care of in a very reasonable time frame, and prior to a big storm. Again, the team worked quickly and professionally to get it taken care of.

Hicks' workmanship and customer service is excellent. We would highly recommend to anyone looking for drainage solutions and will definitely be giving them our business again for any future landscaping needs.

My wife and I have really enjoyed working with Hicks Landscaping. We could not recommend them more. They are on time, professional, and complete high quality work. We will be using them for all of our future landscaping needs. We especially like working with Matt! He is super knowledgable and friendly. You can tell he loves his job and takes pride in his work. Hick's services my townhome community. I have called multiple times to report issues with the pet waste station not being cleared out. I have been laughed at and ignored. The issue continues which leads to overflowing bins (see photo) and residents of the community not picking up their pet waste because there is no where to put it. This issue is ongoing and many residents have reported to our HOA and directly to Hick's with no resolution.
In addition to the pet waste issue, Hick's has been disrespectful to our properties. The second image is a picture of a garden bed, which was hit while Hick's was mowing and left broken.
I am begging Hick's to please take better care of the community because we deserve (not to mention pay for) a clean and welcoming place to call home.

We had Hicks do landscaping upgrades and pavers to expand our patio. Also, drainage and irrigation issues were addressed. The Hicks Team was excellent!! Matt, our advisor provided exceptional amounts of information, a very good sense of identifying our needs, and was always super responsive to any questions. The installation team was very meticulous and professional. The work was outstanding and the final result is better than we anticipated. We chose Hicks because it is a “family owned” business and they made us feel like we were part of that family. We are very satisfied. We highly recommend Hicks.

This company is unethical and does not stand behind their work. We have done $100,000 worth of work with them and I would NEVER use them again. They claim to be a full service landscaping company, but in practice they use subcontractors for much of their work, but they don't tell you that. Their subcontractors generally do poor quality work, both in terms of materials and workmanship. They probably use them because they are cheap. Most importantly, Hicks does not stand behind their work, or their own for that matter. Their salesman claims to be knowledgeable about all things plants and trees. He is not! We asked him for a recommendation for what evergreen trees that we could plant in a heavily shaded area in our back yard. He convinced us of what we should plant, saying that they would do very well there. We paid Hicks nearly $9,000 to plant those trees in that space. They are all dead or dying. Three tree experts have now told us that they should have never been planted there. We notified them-per their contract- within the one year warranty period. They refused to act on the problem (replace the trees or give us our money back) and have now even refused to remove the dead and dying trees.
They used a subcontractor to re-sod our back yard. Contrary to what they told us, they used almost no top soil and poor quality sod. The lawn has mostly died out or been overtaken by weeds (see attached picture). Hicks has been doing the maintenance of the lawn as well, so there is no one else to blame. They have refused to take responsibility for the problems or work with us to fix it. Their solution was to "cut and run" (cancel our maintenance contract-the only thing that they do reasonably well) with the hopes that we would just go away.
On top of all that, they have been using a picture of our back yard (when it still looked good) as the homepage on their website, without our consent or even our knowledge. The most disturbing thing was that almost nothing in the picture was done by Hicks, yet the implication was that they had done it all! I have more stories that I can tell.
I would NEVER recommend that you use Hicks Landscaping.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting with Hicks Landscaping in Raleigh. The owners are truly the heart and soul of this company. Their passion for creating beautiful outdoor spaces shines through in every interaction. They were so approachable, taking the time to listen to their customer's ideas and offering thoughtful suggestions to bring their vision to life. It’s clear they genuinely care about their customers and the quality of their work!

Some people might ask - why the heck would you want a plastic yard? Well, they don't know the struggle of living on a sloped lot with red clay dirt and two dogs that like to play. My frustration from years of spending multiple days per week and thousands and thousands of dollars just trying to prevent my land from eroding are finally over and I couldn't be happier.

That's not to mention no longer having to deal with the muddy paws, the sitting water that sometimes found its way into my crawl space, and the weed and mushroom farms that made appearances over and over again despite continuous efforts to prevent them.

Matt was extremely patient with us. We delayed the project for a year at one point, but always knew we'd circle back to it. Some folks might have thought it's not worth their time providing another quote, but he showed up each time ready to go.

He understood our problems (which, were actually even more robust than the scenarios described above, but I won't get into it all in a review) and he provided thoughtful solutions that gave us a lot of comfort that we were making this investment with the right team.

Needless to say, I am happy with the Hicks team. The attention to detail throughout the project was apparent. They didn't rush anything. They didn't nickel and dime when small-ish issues came up. They went above and beyond and the end result is gorgeous.

So that all said, you shouldn't hesitate to work with them on your yard project.

Hicks has done work for our school twice and it has been not only excellent quality work, but also the best experience working with contractors that we have ever had (and we've worked with a lot of different contractors). Matt Hutchinson was our main contact both times, and he was so prompt, helpful and communicative along the way. He offered great solutions they could offer to the problems I told him we were experiencing on the playground. The whole team was there when we asked them to be, were all kind and respectful, and got the job done quickly!

Several years ago, they installed high-quality turf with fall zone cushioning under our play structure, and the turf still looks brand new, even with heavy, daily usage.

This month, they completed a drainage project to fix an area that we haven't been able to get to drain properly for years. They also installed turf and rubber tiles for our infant playground area. It all looks awesome yet again!

We will definitely go back to Hicks for any needs we have, and I recommend you do the same! They can be trusted!

Just installed turf in the backyard. They were more than the average quote price wise but well worth it. Their installation process is different and their system is built to last and give better results in regards to drainage and durability. It was the best quality turf in terms of feel and realistic look compared to other products and they offer financing options both same as cash and low interest options. The best thing about them is their friendliness, professionalism, and thoroughness as a company. Matt was easy to contact and stayed in touch throughout the whole process. They did a fantastic job on the project, cleaned up after themselves and I couldn’t be happier with the result. I have always been an outdoors and play in the dirt person but I have to say that having this turf back yard with 2 dogs and 2 little ones makes it significantly easier and less stressful to go outside and play everyday. The backyard was dry even after the terrible storm we just had and highly recommend this company and their product specifically.
