Called these frauds to replace a switch/remote on an enclosed gas fireplace. We were charged $139 for a service call to tell us that we needed to go to Home Depot and buy a $1 switch, and that we needed a new thermocouple because that was why the remote control didn't work. I'm no expert, but before the switch broke, the fire went on and off just fine, and I know a thermocouple has nothing to do with a remote. Turns out, the $1 switch was really a switch and receiver for the remote control. I was charged a service call for absolutely nothing being done. The tech had no clue what he was doing. When you think of contractor fraud, think KICKING ASH .....

I purchased a house with an old fireplace that had been converted over to a ventless propane type set up. I had three different chimney companies come out to my house to give me quotes on removing the propane logs, inspect/sweep the chimney and install a wood stove insert. All three companies where members of the National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG.) I decided to use Kicking Ash. Coincidentally, Kicking Ash was the last of the three companies to inspect my fireplace and give me a quote so I had a pretty good idea of what they were going to tell me. Jeremy, from Kicking Ash, told me exactly what the first two companies had found, a small amount of water leakage through the top cap of the chimney. He recommended cleaning the exterior of the chimney and sealing the cap before anything else be done. Once Jeremy had gone over all of the stove models that I could choose from, I made a decision on a make/model and set up an install date. They showed up on time and had my chimney sealed, liner installed and insert/stove installed within three hours. Since I was new to using a wood burning insert, they went over everything with me in detail. This install took place in August and I didn’t have a need for a fire until late October and of course I had a ton of questions after my first few fires. I have texted and called Jeremy (the owner) several times with my questions about the baffles, automatic fan and the draft control. Jeremy has patiently answered all of my questions...even once at 8 o’clock in the evening. I would highly recommend Kicking Ash if you are in the market for a wood burning stove, gas stove or just basic chimney work, they were extremely knowledgable and friendly and their price was also great!

I was looking to have caps installed on my chimney. I emailed Kicking Ash, after business hours, and was quickly responded to. Set up an estimate for the next day and had the caps installed that same day for a fair cost. Great service and response time!!! I will definitely be using Kicking Ash for my chimney needs!!!

My daughter called to have the chimney cleaned, and to see if the firebox could be repaired. It couldn't
A young man, Taylor, cleaned the chimney for the first round. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable and efficient at his job, he was very nice and respectful of my daughter's home.
Taylor and another representative,Matt, came the second time to repair the firebox.
The quality of the work is first rate,as are the employees. -
10/10 do NOT recommend! The brothers don’t communicate well at all!… they disagree about how our fire place installation should work, and when it came down to installation day, because they didn’t communicate and figure out how to get our fireplace installed, it couldn’t be done, and they had to order a special part, which takes extra time… plus, they’re not even sure it’ll work anyway. They don’t call back, and they don’t check their messages. They make you doubt whether they themselves know what they’re talking about or not because the brothers think different things… which has cost me as the costumer time and money. Go somewhere else to get a fireplace installed, and save yourself the hassle of going through them.

Chimney crown was resurfaced in September 2022. Chimney cap was reinstalled when crown work was complete. The cap blew off in the wind in December 2022. Kicking Ash came back to reinstall for me, no issues. Cap blew off again in March 2023 and now Kicking Ash wants $100+ to reinstall.
My home actually has 2 fireplaces and 2 chimneys. The front chimney ( one that didn't have work done) has 2 chimney caps. Those 2 chimney caps did not blow off either time. This leads me to believe that either the chimney crown was resurfaced incorrectly which is impacting the cap's ability to stay attached. Or, they are not able to successfully install a chimney cap.
Either way - I can not recommend this company for chimney repairs. -
Our FP hadn’t been serviced in 20 years and stopped working. Their technician, Steven, did a great job of explaining how the unit works and how to light the pilot in the future. He cleaned it thoroughly and installed new embers to give the flame a nice orange color. He was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. Highly recommend this FP service.

Bought a groupon about 2-3 years ago for them to come out and perform a chimney inspection and sweep. They were on time, and did the job quickly. They also informed me about things that had happened in our chimney and things to watch out for, then sent us an inspection report after to make sure everything was know. They did it with great customer service and will defiantly use them again if we need to have something done.

The gentleman just left our house a little bit ago. When we bought our house, the whole side, including the chimney had been covered in ivy. People think it looks pretty but it ruins brick. We removed the ivy last fall but this year, after Kicking Ash completed a chimney sweep they recommended getting the chimney exterior sealed to protect it. We took them up on the offer, and are glad we did. We received good service and a fair price.

Professional and friendly customer service. I highly recommend. Jake came out and did a fabulous job. I didn’t know how to take glass off my fireplace or light the gas. He took all the time I needed to show me until I felt comfortable doing it myself just in case I ever needed too. I have put them on my schedule for yearly cleaning and inspection.

Dalton & Stephen were excellent professionals helping to fix our chimney separating from the foundation of our home. They completed the work quickly and too a great level of detail.
Additionally Stephen identified some opportunities to improve our chimney for a longer life, but did not push for work to be done immediately if not absolutely needed.
Overall great work, and excellent professionalism from both of them! -
I would highly recommend checking other places out and not using this company. All they want is your money and are not honest.
I got a quote from Chad Johnson where he told me I had to basically tear down and rebuild both the outside and inside of my chimneys for $10,000. I received other quotes in the $2500 range just to fix what was necessary from nationally accredited masons. It was apparent Chad Johnson was trying to make money and not just fix the problem and this was exposed through more talented masons who were happy to complete the work and fix what needed vs trying to scam their customers.
If you aren’t familiar with chimneys and costs, get multiple quotes because this company will try to pull a quick one on you and you’ll lose thousands of dollars. They are nothing more than dishonest sales reps. -
The company I normally use quoted a price which was about $10.00 less than this company, however, they were booked out for about 2 months. Therefore, I scheduled with Kicking Ash. They were booked about 4 weeks out. I was told the appointment time was 12:30 and the price, including tax, would be $208.95. Upon arrival at 2:30, the tech told me the price for a wood stove, verses a fireplace, would be $289.95. He implied I did not ask for the right thing. When I objected, I was told there were new people in the office, he has nothing to do with it, etc., etc. He took no responsibility. He was very unprofessional.
I have owned this property for over 30 years and have had the stove/chimney cleaned many times. I know what to ask for. This was not my mistake. I will not use this company again nor will I recommend this company. -
From start to finish we had a very professional experience with Kicking Ash. Everyone we dealt with was a pleasure to work with, Chase with estimate visit and proposal, Daniel with all communications, and installation by Logan. Would have no reservations in recommending them

Dalton & Steven were fantastic. I had an issue with a gas smell in my fireplace. They came out, tested for leaks, cleaned it, and determined the issue was related to airflow/pressure and instructed me on how to fix it. They were both super nice and knowledgeable, and did a great job explaining things in layman's terms. They also did an excellent job cleaning out the fireplace and the glass surround.

I have been a customer for years - two different homes. I have recommended them to my neighbors as well. Never disappointed, I trust them, and they do great work. During a fireplace cleaning, they discovered that I had a problem and needed to repair my chimney - it wasn't cheap, but it was the issue I had to deal with. They treated me with respect, honesty, and provided options. I am a customer for life.

We needed to have our old gas log fireplace replaced with a new one in our condo. Jeremy was great to work with! He took time to carefully explain how to use the features of this new fireplace and reviewed maintenance and safety details with us. We are so grateful for the excellent work that he does along with his team! Our new fireplace is beautiful! We highly recommend Kicking Ash!!

My chimney had extensive water and wind damage needing work. I also had siding damage to my house. I had to have my prefab chimney rebuilt and many companies did not do this type of work. I had contacted several companies, but Kicking Ash was the only company that was thorough with the inspection and informative of what needed done. In addition to the rebuild I needed a new chase, cap, collar, and flashing for the chimney, which Kicking Ash would replace. Kicking Ash subcontracted the siding work and the chimney rebuild through another company. Making a long story short, the first sub contractor for the siding and chimney rebuild could not do the job on my actual scheduled day of service. I was very upset. Chad, the owner of Kicking Ash, came out to my home and reassured me that everything would be taken care of for me...and it was! Chad had another subcontractor on the job immediately and the Kicking Ash employees replaced my collar, chase, flashing and cap immediately. Austin and Tony, the new subcontractors on the job, did a great job. They waterproofed and rebuilt my chimney along with repairing my siding. They were very informative and professional. Overall, Kicking Ash did a great job of taking care of my problems. Chad came out several times to check on the work while it was being done. The quality of the work was very good. The workers were friendly, helpful and professional. I would recommend Kicking Ash Chimney Services. Thank you Chad ( owner of Kicking Ash) for taking care of my chimney headaches. I am grateful for a new waterproof rebuilt chimney; new chimney top and new siding on the side of my house for a very good price.

The installers Taylor & Jason. These two young men are real professionals, & incredibly knowledgeable. We were so impressed. They went the extra mile to make sure everything was done perfectly.

This morning on Teusday 4/22/25 at 6:30 AM I witnessed a company vehicle from Kicking Ash tailgating a small car maybe a foot away from the bumper and flashing his brights on 270. He then switched lanes behind be and started flashing his brights. Having a semi in front of me, going faster was not an option. I have seen and dealt with fatalities from from collisions and this guy was driving like he wanted to cause one or be in one. It is one thing to jeopardize your own life but when you drive recklessly you are jeopardizing innocent people. As a company I would be concerned about the conduct of employees in company vehicles.

I used Kicking Ash Chimney Service for chimney repairs at my employer’s business property. They have a great team of service professionals, and they are very knowledgeable about chimney repairs. The owner is a great guy who takes the time to answer all questions.
When I’m spending my employer’s money, I like to feel good about it. I definitely feel good about working with Kicking Ash.
