Landscaping reviews in Portland, Oregon

Lovely shop, friendly staff, great selection!
I especially appreciate that they have a *very clearly marked* section for their pet-safe houseplants, as most of the time when I go into garden stores I constantly have to have my phone out to double-check whether whatever plant that's caught my eye is also safe for my dog to cohabitate with. -
This is my new favorite garden shop! They have an amazing selection of natives, edible and houseplants for the best prices I’ve seen. You can expect to find pretty much everything you need for your garden. The staff is nice and helpful. They also have a zero waste model for selling stuff like shampoo, clothes detergent, etc. You can also find a lot of cool handmade crafts made by small local Portland businesses like artisan soap and colorful planters. I highly recommend!

It's hard to overstate how great SymbiOp is. The staff are passionate about what they do and there is an excellent selection of plants, pots, tools, soil, bird food, seeds, soils, and a whole lot of locally made home goods and jewelry.
The cherry on top is they're worker owned so you can feel even better about shopping with them! -
We recently went into the SymbiOp Garden Shop and were impressed with every bit of our experience. As a proud plant mom, I’ve purchased many of my plants from well known nurseries around Portland. Many of the shops here are over priced and have sales associates that lack passion and advanced plant knowledge. SymbiOp was the total opposite. When shopping for plants here, I felt very well taken care of. Not only were the prices affordable (more affordable than other Portland shops), I thought the quality of the plants were well maintained and there was a good variety of species and locally crafted products. What I loved most about my experience was instantly feeling like I was walking into a community. It has a beautiful sense of culture and inclusivity. Every associate, including the owner Matt, expressed a deep knowledge of the plants and they were helpful in providing tips and suggestions. We bought four plants about a month ago and they’re just as beautiful as the day we brought them home.

I don't know how anyone could even think of giving less than 5 stars. I have worked with two different people in the store on three occasions and each time I received exemplary customer service that was above and beyond. On two of the occasions they were very busy but they both took all the time necessary to thoughtfully answer my multitude of questions and help me problem solve landscaping challenges. There was no sense of rushing or annoyance. Their advice was very sound and has proven extremely helpful. The quality of their outdoor plants has exceeded that of other nurseries and their peat free soil is amazing for gardening. It's also clear that they live up to their social justice values and are not being performative or using it to just sell their products. I have referred the store to others and they had the same experiences. I just wish I had gotten the name of the two wonderful people that helped me so I could give them a specific shout out.

I wouldn't recommend buying from this nursery!! Here's why First of all they only offer 7 day warranty on their plants, which are way overpriced!! 2nd, I bought several plants, but they were not what the label said, completely different varieties, and I paid a price for what I wanted but ended up with a completely different thing! 3rd their 1 gallon plant/tree died, no refund. It didn't have leaves, how would I know it wasn't dead during the winter at their nursery?! I am very disappointed with customers' service!
Search around there are many good nurseries around but definitely not this one! -
This shop was recommended to me by another nursery when I couldn't find some natives I was seeking. The selection is small but you will find things that aren't available everywhere. Their focus is on plants that are native to our climate. I am trying to replace a bunch of existing stuff that hasn't been doing so well with our crazy new weather with things that can handle it better. I really appreciate their commitment to inclusion and love supporting small and local businesses.

As an Ashkenazi person I am super happy to shop at a worker owned garden center that supports the people of Palestine. The humanity on display here makes me feel more welcome than in the other shops in town. I will be bringing my business back again and again.

Knowledgeable and kind staff. Incredible selection of natives. Great prices. What more could you ask for in a nursery?

Huge variety of products. Basically everything you could need for gardening and livestock they have. I love that they carry plants native to the area. They also have fun local made items like candles and honey! Such kind and helpful people that work there! So inclusive, inviting, and diverse.

My favorite plant shop in Portland! Focused on Willamette Valley natives and edibles with a great selection of seeds, tools, houseplants and gifts too! Always love the unusual plant gems and support of local growers and super awesome staff!
[Edit: I now work here lol] -
What a great store!! They carry all of the usual stuff you’d expect: mulch, seeds, soil- that sort of thing with an emphasis on sustainable agriculture. Put it to you this way- if you’re looking for round-up and lawn care- Go To Lowe’s or something. But if you want to grow a nice garden whether it’s on a porch, yard or windowsill or attract bees and other pollinators, then this is your spot! They have a great selection of houseplants and all sorts of pots and other houseplant accessories. They carry a good selection of herbs & all sorts of food-bearing plants. The amount of space and attention devoted to native plants is admirable. There’s a self-serve bulk seeds section; There’s even a section of carnivorous plants!! They carry a nice selection of high quality garden tools and accessories, tchotchkes(stickers, candles and whatnot) with an emphasis on local and women-owned companies and USA- made products.
The staff here are incredibly kind and knowledgable and the vibe is very inclusive, community-oriented and welcoming to all. This is a really great store that deserves your business! -
Great selection of healthy and high-quality products. They have inexpensive pots made of rice hulls that last for five years and then are biodegradable (so much better for the environment than plastic!). Their house potting soil mix has only high-quality ingredients. And the staff are incredibly helpful.
