I just bought a home in Pennsylvania that needed new electric service setup (meter box, breaker box, and service cable to power lines) as well as a complete rewire to eradicate knob and tube wiring. If every contractor and company had the business model, customer service, transparency, and overall excellent communication and friendliness of Donald Miller's Electrical Services than the world would be a much better place. A really awesome thing about Donald's company is that when you call his company to inquire about scheduling work the business's phone number is Donald's cell phone so you get to speak directly with the owner of the entire operation. From my first conversation over the phone with Donald, to every interaction in between he always made himself available and took the time to carefully explain every little detail to me. The best part about Donald and his team was that they genuinely care about you and your home and they want to leave you living in a home that is safer than when they started their work.

Nowadays it's extremely challenging to trust contractors coming into your home and trusting that they won't take advantage of your lack of knowledge of their field. Donald makes it his mission to ensure that all homeowners are informed and educated. He exceeded my expectations with his overall commitment and service to ensuring quality work and care with my home. Donald and his team legitimately left my home cleaner than when they started the work as they wiped down all walls and surfaces in the home and used a cleaning oil on the hardwood floors. Donald and his team were expected to take 4 days to complete my rewire but actually finished ahead of schedule and completed the work in 3. Despite this him and one of his associates Dave came a fourth day just to install ceiling fans. Nothing further exemplifies their commitment to quality service than this. Donald and his team went above and beyond and earned a customer for life from the phenomenal job they did for me. I would not use any other company to serve any electrical needs I would ever have and I would not recommend ANYONE other than Donald to anyone that needs electrical work done.

I used Donald Miller Electric to replace the knob and tube wiring in my home in Narberth, PA. I was absolutely delighted with the results. In my first phone call, Donald took the time to educate me on the rewire process and the various options I may encounter when looking for an electrician. During that initial discussion, he was also able to provide an idea of cost which other electricians refused to do even within an order of magnitude!!!!!

He also was able to inspect my home and provide a written quote (that aligned with what he had told me on the phone) within days which was extremely helpful in a compressed inspections time period. This service was provided free of charge while other electricians charged several hundred dollars just to inspect the home and provide a quote (made all the more annoying given those are the same electricians that wouldn't tell me ANYTHING about what to expect in terms of cost).

When the quotes came back, Donald's price was more fair than the other electricians that quoted the same level of service (i.e. carefully patching all holes). And he guaranteed that as a fixed fee from the beginning. NOTE: I am still dumbfounded with some of the quotes I received.

Donald was able to schedule a crew to start the first day we took possession of the home. He walked through the home with us and carefully reviewed the additional upgrades we wanted to make and consulted with us on the lighting design and layout. He even found a way to save us some money on floor protection since we intended to tear out a lot of the carpeting. The prices were clear, consistent, and fair for each type of upgrade. Furthermore, as the rewire proceeded, Donald reached out and confirmed what we had requested. He even pointed out that one of our initial decisions was unnecessary overkill on switches and saved us a significant amount of money in the process.

At the time we contracted him, Donald told us he expected the job to take 3-4 weeks (house empty). I understand we were the recipient of some great luck as another one of Donald's crews was delayed from starting another job, but as a result they were done (save a few cosmetics) in 7 days.

When I re-entered the home after they were done, the difference with the upgrades changed the feel of the home entirely (which I hadn't expected...we did the rewire just to prevent the house from burning down). The lighting was SO much better thanks to Donald's suggestions. Furthermore, the patching was done so cleanly that on the white walls you barely even notice its there. And thanks to the included wipe down service, the house was literally cleaner and freer from dust than when he started.

Afterward, I realized we were missing a dimmer switch, an outlet, and some other functional adjustments we wanted on what switches did what. Donald had someone out to make those changes within a few days and they were performed free of charge (even though the outlet was clearly an extra charge on his sheet).

I highly recommend Donald Miller Electric for any knob and tube full-home remediation needs. We are absolutely delighted with the service provided by Donald and his team.

Donald Miller Electrical Services is awesome! We had a home inspection that found knob and tube wiring in the house. We also wanted to upgrade the breaker box and electrical service amperage. Don Miller came in, inspected the house and gave us an estimate for his white glove service. Let me tell you, it was totally worth it. They covered all the floors and countertops. They did their work in a clean and professional manner. All of Don's guys are friendly and personable. When the work was done, everything was cleaned up and working perfectly. I used Donald Millers Electrical Services to do a Knob and Tube remediation on an 1892 stone home. I also got a lot of other work done with other contractors (painting, hardwood refinishing, plumbing, roofing, etc), and I can confidently say that Don and his crew (Morgan was the lead on our job) stand far and above all other contractors we worked with.

They operate with integrity and care for the home, as if it were there own. The entire house was protected with ram board and plastic wrap, with light fixtures and other removable items taken down and moved to the basement. Nothing was broken and we didn't observe any damage done to anything.

They showed up on time and worked diligently every day that they said they would, never leaving a mess behind. No food containers or wrappers laying around, as we unfortunately saw with some other contractors. And definitely no construction debris laying around because they used a shop vac to clean up the dust from the plaster as they were cutting holes.

When I had questions, they were always happy to explain what they were doing and why.

They were the only electrician that quoted both electrical AND plaster repair. Most of the other electricians said they would slap some drywall in the holes, but we wanted to maintain the structural integrity of the home and so plaster was a better choice. And not just that, but some of the plaster was textured -- they spent days trying to perfect the technique to match the exact texture our plaster walls had (both from the original plaster job + 130 years of paint jobs after the original!).

Additionally, we took this opportunity to add lighting to every room and hallway. Given it was an 1892 house, most rooms were incredibly dark and adding lighting really breathed new life into this old house!

And when I had follow up questions or concerns, even after 100% payment, Don and Morgan were always responsive to my questions.

If you are getting any job done, but especially a massive Knob and Tube remediation job done, make the easy choice and go with them.

Donald was extremely responsive and knowledgeable - coming out right away to assess our situation. The team of Mike, Christian, and Chris were nothing short of amazing - extremely knowledgeable, personable, and hard-working. The team worked seemingly around the clock to get us into our new property as quickly as possible. Still, they were always happy to answer any questions we had as we popped in to drop off items as we tried to move a few items in. The team uses plaster to patch the walls - a marked difference from other companies that gave us other (higher) quotes. Mike (foreman) did a great job of putting our minds at ease and keeping his team motivated and engaged. Terrific guy and manager/leader. The clean up job was also terrific. 10/10 would recommends Donald Miller and the team of Mike, Christian, and Chris specifically.

Knob and Tube Complete Re-Wire and Panel Replacement: From the first meeting with Mike from Donald Miller Electrical, I felt confident and comfortable with the plan for our home after a pipe burst on Christmas Eve. Our old knob and tube was wet and our overall wiring was unsafe in our home. Following our first meeting Donald came to our home to meet and discuss the rewire process. His expertise and pride in his company was evident in his detailed plan and his care for our home was his primary vision. At the core of what Donald Miller and his staff, is integrity and respect for the customer needs. His staff got to work, led by Mike and the first 3 days was preparation, and protection of your home. Safety is the primary focus on the site. Ensuring no lead and mercury were left in our home . Every staff member was diligent and worked on our house with amazing care and excellence in their craft. The professionals including Brandon, Chris, Deon, and everyone on site worked with passion and integrity. Their solid communication each step of the way reinforced our confidence in the project. When we returned to our home, only 6 days after start, we were met with a smile and the smell of Murphy’s Oil, and our home was cleaned from top to bottom. They performed the ultimate surgery on a 100 year old home. Restoring plaster that was surgically cut into to feed the wire and disconnect the old circuitry. Our home has been enhanced with a few add ons that Donald met with us during the project to add some accent lighting while we were going through the rewire. I am so very thankful for the job that Donald Miller and his team did, and when we were at a low point after the pipe burst and water damage, this company comforted us the entire way. I would recommend them to anyone in the market for an electrical upgrade. Don and his staff will leave your home better than ever.

Donald Miller Electric is an excellent company. I hired them for a complete knob and tube remediation of my 1905 colonial. I’m extremely happy with the result. Don is a great electrician and has extensive knowledge of how old homes are constructed. His system minimizes damage to the plaster walls. Importantly, he uses proper plaster repair techniques that restore the integrity of the plaster 100%. Don’s crew consisted of Bill, Vince, and others. All crew members took pride in their work and treated my house like their own.

In addition to the rewire, I added interior and exterior lighting. Don consulted on how to add lighting without compromising the historic look of the home. It came out great. Don even let me pick his brain about a bunch of old house stuff. He really has a wealth of knowledge. Dons team did an amazing job at my house. Very efficient, timely, clean and respectful of our home. Michael found unique ways to problem solve and provide safe solutions when other electricians seemed unqualified. I was expecting major drywall repairs but the team was super thoughtful with the cuts to limit clean up and repairs. A few very small holes later and I have minimal touch up work when it could’ve been a disaster. Highly recommend and will use them for all of my electrical needs in the future.

If you need to have your knob and tube replaced, you want to go with this company. We were so impressed from the initial visit to the completion of the project.

They price your house by square foot so you know what to expect. From there they will give you an a la carte menu of extras so you know exactly how much things are going to cost. This made it very easy for us to decide about adding outlets, outside lights, etc.

The crew was in our house for 3 weeks. What was supposed to take 4 weeks only took 3 because they hustled, these guys were WORKING. And everyone on their crew was professional and polite. We had Joseph as our foreman, he was incredible. He did such a great job communicating with us.

Knob and tube is a huge job. If you need to have it replaced, do yourself a huge a favor AND GO WITH DONALD MILLER! You won't regret it.

Update 12/13/2024: This is the second time using Donald Miller electric and it was once again an excellent experience. The foreman on this project was Niko- he was great to work with and came up with a great solution to our problem that was within our budget. Its great when you find a contractor you can trust and becomes your go-to whenever you have issues. Thanks again Niko- you did great work and were awesome to work with.

If you have a old home and looking for knob and tube remediation look no further- Donald Miller and team are the best in what they do. Donalds team arent just expert electricians they're also experts in plaster which is a rare combination. I reached out to Donald regarding our 100+ year old house and he gave us our options and we figured out a package based on our budget which was great. Within a week his team showed up and finished the job in 3 days. We opted for a lower package to save some cash and stay within our budget so we did all the plaster patching. The way they cut into the plaster makes it extremely easy to patch which is essential in this type of project. We also added a ceiling fan which was a great addition. The foreman Michael was extremely pleasant to deal with and gave us status updates every day while working on the project. If you have the extra funds I would opt the package that includes full protection of the house. Plaster is extremely dusty and gets everywhere when cutting into it. Donald is extremely knowledgeable about old homes and is passionate about his trade which is why we went with him. I originally found the company on youtube and was pleasantly surprised that they served our area. I'd like to truly thank Donald, the foreman Michael and the rest of the team that worked on our house.

A complete house rewire is a significant undertaking, and I couldn’t be happier with the final result. This is a true local company owned by a dedicated local professional, so you can expect exceptional service and direct communication with the owner. The “white glove” service was absolutely worth it: before replacing the wires and opening the drywalls, the entire house was meticulously protected, from floors to furniture. Not only was the electrical work top-notch, but the drywall patching was also excellent. Long story short: after a fresh coat of paint, the house feels brand new and is certainly much safer than before!

This is a bit of a different review because I didn't actually hire Donald Miller for our knob and tube rewiring, but I wish I would have. At the time I chose another contractor - let's call him Joe, another reputable k&t specialist in the area - because he gave us aggressively good pricing for the project, I had not yet realized how significant it is for Donald to do traditional plaster repair. Sure, I knew when comparing them that Donald's method was the gold standard, but I underestimated how invasive the process is and how big of deal having properly restored walls and ceilings is. Don't get me wrong, the other guys were very professional and did fine electrical work, but they're ELECTRICIANS, not plasterers. I now know that electricians are notoriously unkind to plaster - their repair method is to just spackle over holes with pre-mixed spackle, which is comically unsound and not durable long term. So, I told Joe to not spackle and that I'd repair the holes myself with mesh backing and a setting-type joint compound (in exchange for $250 off🤦‍♀️) and figured that was a good enough compromise to go with the cheaper deal. Well, it's a wayy bigger repair effort than I anticipated, so I'm now paying a plasterer $4000 to come patch the holes - and it still won't be the traditional repair that better preserves the integrity of the plaster, and it won't undo the hairline cracks on my previously pristine walls and ceilings from the trauma. If I wanted a full restoration with lath replacement and 3 coats like Donald does, it'd probably be as much as the original k&t project.

In contrast, when Donald did the walk through it was clear how much he genuinely admires old houses (his own home is from the 1700's) and the care that he would bring to the project. As a new homeowner I did not yet understand how important of a quality that is in a contractor!! Now I know for future. If you want your historic house rewired, have it done right!!

Don and John really went above and beyond for me. I'm not in their area, and they still did an excellent job helping me. They had no reason to other than it being the kind thing to do, they made no money off of me and even refused multiple offers to pay them. These aren't just craftsmen, they're good people.

Owning a Knob & Tube home is a real nightmare that is waiting for a fire to occur! Having had Donald Miller's Electrical Services totally re-do the wiring in a 100-year old home, I only have one positive thought/statement: Hire the Best and that is DONALD MILLER and his Team!
You can't understand or imagine the intensity of the job! It IS intense, and Donald understands and addresses each concern, each aspect of delivering not only new wiring but through his knowledge / your needs, you'll have a totally new experience in living in your home.

Dirt? Dust? Certainly there is plenty of that! At the end of each day areas are vacuumed, and yards and yards of plastic preserve your treasures. Everything gets covered!
My skepticism left day after day as the job progressed. The Project Manager is Key! This "Take Charge Person" is trained by Donald! And the Home owner will come to respect the oversight that is applied to the re-doing of every square inch of wiring. It's amazing. I've been the observer. The sceptic in me turned into the devotee.
