Doesn't return calls or emails and is unprofessional. He removed the tree but was late grinding the stump, which I communicated from the beginning I needed done in order to lay a foundation for my retaining wall. Not only was he late and didn't communicate when he could come back, he didn't grind it deep enough so we had to pay extra for someone else to come out and finish the job.

Below are the email communications with dates and times. You can see that from the project start the timeline was in place and Ray knew I needed the stump removed before the retaining wall foundation could be laid. I told him on Wednesday, June 3 that the wall was going to be removed in the next couple of days and asked how much lead time he needed. I got no response. He did not return any of our calls when we were trying to get him to come out and grind the stump. He didn't respond with a date until June 11 and didn't come out until June 14. If he would have told me he couldn't meet my timeline I could have gotten someone else to do it. I had to hire someone else anyway because he couldn't even grind the stump deep enough for my walls foundation, which would have been nice to know before committing to the project. His price is fair, he does quick work, but he is unprofessional in my opinion and it cost us time and money.

    > When will you be able to take the tree down and how long does it take? I want to get a timeline so I can work with Johnny Sheerer Landscaping on the retaining wall removal. Once he removes the retaining wall, how long will it take you to remove the stump?

    > I require the estimate to be signed and sent back with a $50.00 deposit. We are going by the weather right now. within the next week or so. Our stump grinder will not hurt the neighbors lawn but I would ask them if we can get in there to grind the stump. We will have to clean up debris from the tree being removed. So let them know we will have to be in the yard.

    > Assuming good weather the wall should be removed on Thursday or Friday this week and be out of the way of the tree stump. How much lead time do you need to come back in and grind the stump?

    > My wife left a message with you earlier but I wanted to follow up on our email chain. The wall has been dug up and the guys left you a ramp to the tree stump. Is it possible to get this ground down tomorrow? I know it's short notice but the sooner we get the stump out the sooner they can build the wall.

    > The wall guys asked if you had a date that you were coming out and I told them the next couple of days but they can't dig the wall trench until that stump is removed. They have the backhoe onsite right now but need it for other jobs as well. Is there anyway you can fit us in tomorrow morning so they can finishing the digging process and remove the backhoe?

    > I just heard from the guy digging our wall trench and he said he has to be out by tomorrow. I'm sorry for the urgency but the retaining wall project relies on that stump being removed. Are you able to grind the stump tomorrow so they can finish digging the base?

Very satisfied with customer service and work. Couldn't have been more responsive and communicative, worked with me to get an estimate (which was reasonable for some tree pruning) and called when they said they would to schedule the work.

They did a nice job pruning three trees around my yard and cleaned up the yard like they'd never been there. Very professional and reliable, highly recommended.

Hillman's tree service removed three 60ft pine trees beside my house cleaned up and a were gone in about 5 hours. Nice people, very respectful of your property. Thanks to Ray and his crew!

I would highly recommend Hellmann’s Tree Service after they removed a very large maple in our yard. Of five estimates, they were the lowest and still had the best customer reviews. They were very prompt and did an amazing job cleaning up.

Easily the best tree service in Pittsburgh. I needed a 30ft pine tree removed and, where most other services didn't want the job because it was too small, Hellman's Tree Service was more than willing to help. I left them a voicemail and they got back to me the next day with a very reasonable quote. They came out about a week or two later and had the tree cut down in only a few hours with no mess. Overall, very professional, prompt, and reasonably priced. Call these guys first.

We called Ray right around the holidays expecting to hear back a week later and were surprised when he called back right away! Ray came out ASAP to give us an estimate to remove 6 large trees on our property (and trim a few others). The price was extremely fair - easily the lowest estimate we had gotten. Ray and his team went out of their way to make sure our tree removal was complete before our new fence was installed (which means they ended up removing the trees within a week or so of first meeting them!) The whole team was thorough and professional. We are so happy with the results, but even happier with the fair pricing, service, and professionalism of the team. 10/10 - would work with them again in a heartbeat!

If you need a tree service, do not hesitate to call Hellmann's. One of the best companies I have ever worked with. We had five 60 foot pines to remove, including one that fell on our home. Quick and efficient, they came on time ready to work and cleaned up our place after they were done. They even moved our garbage so it could be collected and brought back our can when empty! An amazing company with friendly, professional service. I"d definitely hire them again.I wish all companies were run like Hellmann's.

Super nice and professional crew with a price and quality that is unmatched. Go with them, you will be glad you did! Thank you to Ray and team for a great job!!

    Thanks,

I called Ray for a quote to have some trees removed and he came that day. Very nice and professional, his quote was fair and he came within the next week. Him and his crew did a great job, they were on time, friendly, respectful and cleaned up after the job was done to my standards! I would easily hire them again and recommend! Trees and stumps are gone, we are ready to plant new grass! He made it easy!

We had several trees trimmed along our fence line and surrounding power lines. We were very happy with the work done! Ray was very prompt with an estimate that was very reasonable. The day they did the work they were on time and very efficient and cleaned up everything after! We would recommend Hellman's Tree Service!

Great, professional service! I had five good size trees that I needed removed from the side of my house. Ray gave me a reasonable quote the day after I called. Ray was very responsive, always took my call or returned it quickly. The trees were removed with no issues. The yard and driveway were cleaned and they just did an all around superb job. I would definitely recommend and use their service again. Thank you!

Satisfied customer here. Today I had 3 trees cut down and one trimmed. Ray was easy to contact, came out quickly and gave me a very reasonable quote, accomplished everything to my directions and satisfaction. Crew did a good clean up job. This is actually the 3rd time Ray's crew has been out to my property and have done a great job every time. They have my recommendation.

I could not have been happier with this company from estimate to completion. Their bid was significantly lower than other companies. Ray and his team were professional, efficient and a pleasure to work with. Removed an enormous silver maple in a somewhat awkward location all in the span of a day and 1/2. When I returned, I found the clean up complete and area immaculate, actually better than when they started. I highly recommend this company and these gentleman and actually already have to many others.

Very pleased with the service I received. They removed a large maple from my backyard, despite the challenge of limited access living in the city with a narrow alley and a fence in the backyard. But Ray and the crew were pleasant, punctual, and completed the job efficiently. Hauled everything away and cleaned up afterward. High quality work for the best price - what else can you ask for? Would use them again in a heartbeat!

Ray and his crew did a fabulous job removing a MASSIVE river birch from our corner which was growing into our sewer and foundation. This tree had five trunks and a huge stump. Ray and his crew were professional, on time, cleaned up, reasonably priced and left my property in better condition than they found it. I wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend him to anyone. I honestly don't think you could do better.

Ray responded quickly to our call, came out soon after to give an estimate. Was super professional and easy to work with. Came to do the work when he said he would and did it for a very reasonable price. We took out 3 trees and had three others trimmed so the crew was here all day. Easy to work with from start to finish and would definitely recommend and hire again. We had 3 estimates and his was also the best price.

Ray & his crew were great, I would highly recommend them. We received quotes from a few other tree service providers & Hellman’s was a good price for all the work that needed done - we had 15 trees removed from our property - one tree was over 100 ft tall. They were prompt, professional, courteous, efficient, & fast. They were also great with my two sons who wanted to watch all the action. Their clean up also needs to be praised- it doesn t even look like the trees were there!

We had a fantastic experience using Hellman's Tree Service. We had a large tree cut down that was on a hillside and some other large trees pruned/trimmed. They were extremely professional, did a wonderful job cleaning the area after the job was complete and provided a very reasonable price. I will use this company again in the future.

I used Hellman's to remove 3 pine trees including stump grinding. I was very happy with their service. They responded with their quote very quickly, showed up on time, and worked until the job was done. I also found their communication (both in setting up the appointment and on-site) to be very good. Highly recommend and would use them again.

Highly recommend! Best price out of three quotes by over $500. The tree looks great and they didn't leave a single twig behind. Great communication and competed job promptly. You can't go wrong with Hellmann's!

*Incredibly* reasonable price for the work. I had received about eight quotes, each of them 3 - 10x (!) the sum Hellman's gave me. It was stunning, actually. They were friendly, professional, and ridiculously fast.

My only (minor) quibble was that Hellman's never gave me an explicit day/time they'd come to do their work - it was more a "later in the week" notification. I was lucky enough to be home when they texted on the fly and said they were on their way.

With that said, my job likely was one they had to fit between bigger ones, so I get that it was easier to squeeze an impromptu visit in. And this was the first time I had tree work done, so the flexibility required of clients might just be standard practice - I don't know.

But for the service and cost, I'm willing to overlook a lot, lol. My family and I are very grateful for the work.
