I scheduled my annual heating unit check-up since I’m on the company’s discount plan.
Last year, Mr. Greenway replaced the heat exchanger and cleaned the blower motor.
This year, the technician showed up with his supervisor, completed the check-up, and then told me my blower motor needed cleaning again ($471) and that I needed to replace the inducer motor ($1,239) — a total of over $1,700.
While they were working, I checked other customer reviews and began questioning their conclusion. They didn’t try to explain or justify the recommendations; instead, they gave me a look that made me feel like they’d been caught red-handed.
I then got a second opinion from a reputable company (without mentioning that Mr. Greenway had already inspected it last year). That company confirmed everything was fine — the system was clean and operational.
I’m disappointed, but not surprised, because I’ve caught Choates doing similar things to its customers before.
For reference, a brand-new inducer motor costs under $200 and takes about 20–30 minutes to install. My blower motor was already cleaned last year.
In my opinion: don’t get ripped off—if something sounds suspicious, get a second opinion.
To top it off, this morning I received a text saying Mr. Greenway would be “glad to do the annual check-up”… even though they just did it.
**Signs a Company May Be Dishonest or Pressuring Technicians to Upsell**
- Repeated or unnecessary repairs
- Recommending the same service within an unusually short time frame (e.g., cleaning a part that was cleaned last year).
- High markups without explanation
- Charging several times the fair market price for a part or service, without clear labor or cost breakdown.
- Urgency without justification
- Pressuring you to approve repairs “right now” without giving time for a second opinion.
- Lack of reasoning or transparency
- Avoiding direct answers when you ask “why” or “how” a part is failing.
- - Suspicious body language
- Looking nervous, defensive, or avoiding eye contact when challenged.
- Inconsistent communication
- Offering or promoting services that were already completed, showing poor record-keeping or deliberate confusion.
- Pattern in reviews
- Multiple online reviews mentioning aggressive upselling or questionable diagnoses.
Takeaway:
When a repair estimate feels off, trust your instincts.
Ask for a clear explanation, get it in writing, and seek a second opinion.
Reputable companies value trust over margin padding — questionable ones rely on confusion and pressure.
And look at the bad reviews….obviously answered by an AI Bot. I received a call which I returned only to be on hold 10 min. Yeah. No warm and fuzzy. Another sign of trouble -
So glad we call because our sink was so stopped up I mean such a nightmare! But our technician was named Chris he did all he could to fix our plumbing problem even quoted us a very good price for the job! Thanks again Chris

Jason was my technician and was simply amazing. He was very knowledgeable of the water heater, and very thorough explaining the issue. Jason’s expertise put me at ease and I knew I was in the right hands. He was empathetic and realistic. Thank you Jason.

My technician Marcus was very prompt and courteous . He was professional, very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. My problem was fixed immediately. I have used Greenway for years and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend!

The technician came very quickly after we called. However, he quoted us $1400 to hook up a water heater. The water heater was already moved and ready to go it just needed to be hooked up. Total scam as the average price range for this service is $400-$600. I would not trust this company to give you a fair price for service.

Armando did a great job! He told me step by step what needed to be done. He shared photos and videos of the work. He finished quickly and our heat is working well now.

Price gouging. They make a business off of ripping people off that have no idea you can get the work they are trying to do for MUCH CHEAPER than what they are charging for the work. I signed up for the $23/month membership in hopes that it would be beneficial in some way but its not and it's a waste of my money because when they come out and quote for work needed, its very very high. They have came out on numerous occasions and quoted and I have never accepted a job because their pricing is insane compared to other reputable companies. The most recent, the guy wanted to replace my sink valve and faucet for $1,000!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯... I had a guy come by the next day and do it perfectly for $100.

I called the office and specifically asked if they worked on septic field lines and was told they did. Scheduled the appointment for them to come out and when they got here the technician stated that they did not work on septic field lines. Even though they did nothing I was still charged the service fee. Technicians were very polite and sympathetic but I do not think I should have to pay a service fee when you send someone out knowing that your company does not work on the system that was called in about.
Edit: I received a call this morning from the manager who was very professional and courteous. I did receive a full refund. I appreciate the time they took out of their days to actually read and respond to this review. -
Zach Smith the technician did a good job and was nice. I dont blame him. But I ask Mister Greenway straight up how much to do a laundry drain and wad quoted 79.95. A very misleading quote when final bill was $485 dollars. If they give actual quotes people might make different decisions.
They contacted me and made things right and was nice about it. I will use mister greeway in the future. Good customer service -

I live in Kansas and my elderly father who lives in Bartlett, TN developed a leak on the toilet valve and it could not be shut off and he was not able to get the water main shutoff . The technician showed up super fast and got it repaired by replacing the valve saving a lot of water damage. Really appreciate the quick response especially since I live out of state.
-
Very responsive to my issue from past installation. Armando was so great at communicating and understanding my issues and questions and communicating them to his manager. It looks like Mr. Greenway will take care of things properly.

Sewage was backing up in my yard and showers but I was out of town. My ex stayed at the house with our kids and had you all come out while I was gone. Quoted him $2,900 to flush the system so the tech could get a camera in to see what was going on. The cost was shocking and we should’ve seen it as a red flag but we’ve never needed a plumber before so thought that was standard. It was also an emergency since the ice storm was coming through the next day so we trusted that the very high cost would be worth it because you’d solve our problem. They flushed the system so they could get a camera down but then told my ex they couldn’t get the camera in yet quoted us $35,000 to replace the pipes! I’m very upset and disappointed. I’m now out almost 3 grand and still have raw sewage coming up. All that for nothing and your next and only recommendation is for 35k. When my ex called back a few days later to voice his concerns he was told that’s just what yall charge and that the tech never said the camera was part of the deal for the flush. Lies because I heard him over the phone. I feel completely duped.
