Jacob was very detailed in his tasks. He ensured that I had no questions left before he left. You know someone cares about their customers when they not only do whats needed, but also shares all the maintenance tips with you. He answered all my questions very professionally, and did a phenomenal job. Definitely our go-to guy for the HVAC after this service we just received.

Virtuous Air is a hidden gem. Jacob was quick to respond, asked questions to understand the job, provided in-depth information to aid with the buying process (he clearly knows his stuff), and was kind and accommodating with some special requests we had. Okay so I gotta start by saying Jacob Johnson clearly cares about his customers.

How do I know this? I was right there with him as he THOROUGHLY diagnosed a very tricky refrigerant leak coming from the outside compressor which turned my humble home into a hothouse.

This booger was SO tricky, it had us BOTH convinced it was in the main outside unit coil which is usually, uh, oh, $10K for a new system, as repairs there are often next to impossible. Spray after spray of leak test….NO BUBBLES, but we could both audibly hear the leak. The leak detectives were seemingly quite stumped.

But wait, the plot thickens. Jacob did not give up and after better than an hour and dang near a full bottle of leak test we saw the bubbles we were looking for.

Drum roll please. The leak was in the copper line coming out of the compressor and NOT the main outside unit coil. Whew, I think I just saved about $9K!!!

Jacob quickly devised a plan that made sense to us both. We parted ways and he sent an invoice that I read and approved about 30 minutes later, never really thinking this busy solo AC warrior would be able to get to it today.

No more than two hours later the indoor temp had risen to 87F. The only things that may have been happy were the houseplants at that juncture. My wife and daughter sure weren’t.

Within another half hour there was Jacob at my home with the repair needed supplies and copious amounts of refrigerant that would be needed. He lit into it and performed the tricky pipe fitting work in tight quarters inside the outside compressor with much acumen. He then drained the old school refrigerant and filled up with the new good stuff(required). We had likely lost 70-80% of the refrigerant and it made sense to have ALL of the refrigerant the same type, so ALL was replaced.

The tricky copper line repair, refrigerant drain and refill, complete test was done in under 3.5 hours. Including the time spent diagnosing Jacob had given by my calculations close to six hours of his time!!!

The house cooled from 87F to 75F in no time at all. Plants said boo, people said YAY!! Let’s hear it for the people. Power to the people!

Lastly the price. I won’t list the exact number, but my 13 year old American Standard Platinum 2 Stage was given a new life. If I get a few more years of service from it, it’s definitely A HUGE win.

What stood out most was Jacob’s tenacity to stick with it and find the hard evidence of the EXACT leak location. It would have been easy to just throw up his hands and prescribe a new unit. That didn’t happen of course because of well I guess I will call it “virtuosity.” Get it?

In the end, as I sit hear at 128AM typing this, I feel very good about the outcome. Since I really didn’t sleep last night, I suppose I should now and close this review and my eyes for a while.

I truly hope everyone found it informative and maybe even a little entertaining.

We were needing to replace our heat pump since it was 20+ years old. We spoke to a couple of installers who spent minimal time looking at our system and then they sent over quotes. They never brought up that fact that our concrete pad was severely leaning and needed repairs or replacement. Nor did they check out the ductwork. It all left me feeling like I was about to spend a lot of money not really knowing what I was getting into. Then Jacob came by. He went over everything. He was very thorough and shared his wealth of knowledge. He also gave us options and set up the appointment with people to replace the concrete pad. It’s true, he really does care about his clients. I’m very thankful to him and the work he provided. I definitely will ask Jacob to do the yearly servicing as I feel like I’m in good hands.

Jacob is great! He identified the issue with my AC unit and clearly explained every test he used to diagnose the problem and made sure I understood the results. He also showed me where the failure was in the unit itself. It was clear that he was very thorough, knowledgeable, and professional, so I opted to have him replace the parts necessary to fix the issue. He went over all the work he would be doing and answered any questions I had. After securing the parts he needed, which was the same day he diagnosed the issue, he went to work the very next day. Once the job was completed, he went over the tests he performed to insure everything was working properly and to spec. I would highly recommend Virtuous Air Conditioning & Heating!

Don't be the next victim by choosing Available AC for service or installs. Originally I had Don White (1st mistake) install an Amana unit (a brand he recommended but has since quit selling them due to quality warranty issues) – 5 yrs. & 2 months from install, AC unit quits cooling - low on Freon – contacted Don, he wouldn't come until 8:30 am next day, slept in hot house - next day 7/27/16 Don arrives 7:50 am before my buddy was to be at house (I was at work) – he calls me & informed him how to get into house (2nd mistake) no one watching him do the actual service, he said the high pressure fitting to inside unit coil was loose – tighten fitting added 2.5 lb. 410A charged $218.
3 days later unit not cooling – low on Freon again – he wouldn't come until the next day – again slept in hot house. He arrived next day (Saturday 7/30) confirmed low Freon – initially couldn't detect leak around coil – went & added a small amount of Freon – falsely detected leak at coil – left saying he would check warranty on Monday – AC unit never cooled after he left – couldn’t stay any longer in hot house, finally deciding to buy two windows AC units from SAMs (2 story house).
Monday I was informed by Don the coil unit was not covered by warranty (2 months out, he never handed me the unit paperwork & he never instructed me to register the unit for warranty reason – if he had, then why wouldn't I? Don left the paperwork next to unit where I found it).
At this point Don’s asking $1200 for coil replacement. I wisely discussed the issue with a buddy who has been in HVAC business for years (still licensed but is currently semi-retired) – with this buddy’s assistance, the leaking Freon issue was troubleshot to the Schrader valve on AC unit (outside unit low pressure side – the valve used to refill Freon) Don had installed plastic caps not metal, this is why the system lost Freon. The valve core (similar to bike cycle tire valve) was replaced, issue is now resolved.
On 9/8, unit currently still cooling correctly, Don was contacted by phone requesting a refund for the obvious misdiagnosis. Don’s original service wasn’t the solution. I was attempting to resolve this issue in a business manner beneficial to us both but he refused. Don’s response was to hang up on me.
As a consumer who wasn’t treated fairly, my experience with this business was horrible.
Choose wisely, there are lots of AC companies in the Austin area – why take a chance on going through my ordeal?

Available AC replaced my entire system in Dec 2018. My installer, Ronnie, was fast, professional, and friendly.
In June 2019, I had a drain blockage and a problem with my thermostat. I was able to schedule a same-day appointment, and Ronnie again came over to help me out.

I highly recommend Available Air Conditioning.
