Solar Energy Company reviews in Tomball, Texas
-
I placed an order for a solar and battery installation in Houston with Affordable Solar Roof and Air back in December 2023. I chose them based on a reasonable price and excellent review history. It took them until mid-July, 2024 (~7 months) to get approval for the design from Centerpoint and the city of Houston. I think the Cityof Houston requested 7 revisions to the design before it was approved. Unfortunately the design was for a full house battery backup which is the wrong type for this installation (7.2 kW solar panels and 10 kWh batteries). There was no critical loads panel included, which was part of the original sales contract. The project manager tried to convince me on the phone that they would add the additional panel during the installation and there was no need to revised and resubmit any plans for approval from Centerpoint and the City of Houston. I did not accept this and asked for a revised plan.
It has been approximately 1 month since that conversation. I have sent numerous emails and voice mails that have gone unanswered. I called the 800 number last week asking for my deposit back. I was told this must go through the regional manager Jonathan Meeks and that he would call me back. There has been no return call. His phone number goes to voice mail and the mail box is full, so cannot leave a message.
Based on my experience with them I am baffeled that there are any positive reviews. Beyond the initial sales conversations (the saleman is no longer with the company) their performance has been severely lacking in communication and design execution. -
Stay away!
I found Affordable Solar Roof & Air through a website that recommends reputable companies in Texas, but my experience was anything but positive. I strongly advise you to avoid this company if you value your time, money, and peace of mind.
When the representative visited our home, he used their website to explain the number of solar panels that were needed to become entirely independent of the grid. We signed a contract for a system of 20 panels, designed to provide 8,000 kW of power. According to them, this would not only make us self-sufficient but also generate excess energy that we could sell back to CenterPoint. Additionally, by installing a Tesla battery, we were assured we’d have enough backup power during outages, hurricanes, or evenings.
Here’s where things went wrong:
1. Their contract only had information about the number of panels, total power of the system and warranty. There was absolutely no information about the battery, long term maintenance of the system, what the next steps were.
2. After taking our money, they left us to handle everything ourselves. We had to deal with CenterPoint, obtain permits, and even perform the final connection by ourselves. Despite multiple calls, they provided no assistance.
3. At one point, I received a misleading text message suggesting that all I had to do was to “lift a handle” to complete the setup. This was far from accurate, and I eventually had to get detailed instructions from another representative. Even then, the system still didn’t function correctly.
4. Though the battery was fully charged, we continued to rely on grid power. I made countless calls, but they couldn’t even help us set the system to use the battery properly. After struggling, I finally got it working, but the system still depends partially on the grid.
5. Worse yet, when I tested disconnecting entirely from the grid, the battery lasted for a few hours! This was a far cry from the promised solution, especially regarding nighttime power.
6. Another problem is when it is overcast. The system does not produce enough power to keep the house running and with a single battery during a hurricane it is not much different than not having the system at all.
Conclusion:
I cannot emphasize this enough—stay far away from Affordable Solar Roof & Air. They are not transparent, and their customer service is terrible. Sure, there are limitations on the technology, but they could at least have explained what it would take and how much it would cost to get a system that was entirely grid independent. -
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
I was desperate due to the fact that my electricity bill was as high as $780 for 1 month. My house is only 1,500 square feet. They placed panels on my entire roof ($95,000). I painted $84,000 for my home...
I was told that I might get an electricity bill that's $20 or a refund check for producing to much energy. ALL LIES. Then they used 2 different financing companies to get me financed. (the sales rep told me to my face " well we aren't really allowed to do that but let try anyways) then I had to pay $1,000 to have my breaker box up to code (they placed plastic tie stripes around the wires to make it look nice). For maybe 3 months the sales rep refunded me what the 2 financing companies were charging me because the panels were still not activated. Then my electricity bill was still very high and on top of that I was paying around $200 to both financing companies. Now that I have changed to a different electricity company my lowest bill might have been $165 but I'm still paying a little over $400 a month for the panels so roughly $565 a month for electricity. But that's not even the worst part. I was in a major car accident, my car was totaled, I missed a lot of work etc... I reached out to both financing companies and told them about my situation and asked for assistance and instead of them offering me anything they placed a lein on my home after missing 2 payments. If I had the time and energy I'd take the panels off myself and tell them to come pick them up. -
The one star is not applicable to their solar installers as they were exemplary.
My system consists of 48 panels and 8 batteries that are Enphase brand. They're quick to sell you a system and even quicker to leave you in the lurch. Getting anyone to do anything at all is like getting Congress to help anyone but themselves. They act put upon when you ask for updates. We were told a couple of months from the time we signed the contract until our system was ready for prime time. It took a year and a half with several of those weeks caused by Affordable Solar having to correct diagrams required by CenterPoint. Even after it went live, the guy who was supposed to give me the walkthrough literally couldn't answer simple questions and when I asked to speak with the electrician, his answer was and I'm quoting directly, "He doesn't have time for your questions".
I continue to struggle with grid dependence, despite promises to the contrary. I've given up getting anything useful from anyone there. I highly advise you to stay away from this company unless you strictly hire for solar installation. -
With us just moving to Texas we encountered our 1st storm / power outage and it was an experience I can say 🥺. Our neighbors suggested going solar and so I found this company through Google and boy am I so grateful ! David, goes by Dave, was the guy to explain how everything works and was Extremely knowledgeable in his field, very professional, arrived on time, nicely personable with being truly sweet to mine and my husband's 2 kids while we were talking with him. Then when the guys came out to install the batteries and panels Gera, Antonio and the other guys were so hard working! Very professional,
listened to good music when installing panels (actually it help put the baby to sleep 🤣👍🤗), and they were very informative with everything they were doing or need from us! I highly recommend this company for other family. We are truly excited to be apart of the solar family! -
I recently had my roof replaced by these guys and had a great experience. Very knowledgeable and helpful especially when dealing with the insurance company. They took my solar panels down, put on a new roof and reinstalled my panels quickly with no issues. I would recommend them to anyone.

We had to find a new solar company to remove and reinstall our solar panels because the company that installed them went out of business. We also needed to replace our roof. Spoke to Justin and he came over and sat down with me and my husband. He explained the whole process and was able to do everything within our budget. They had the roof done in a day and a half and replaced the solar panels a week later. Definitely would recommend them for your solar needs and roofing. Thank you Affordable Solar Roof and Air!

I shopped around for a while and they had the best deal. My salesman Ken was awesome. Walked me through the whole process.

Last week we settled on going with ASRA for our solar project. Ken A. was very helpful throughout the entire process, helping us navigate all the different options, equipment, etc. So far, very happy with the process, stay tuned as I will be adding additional feedback as we go through the rest of the process.
Update: The entire process was very smooth up until the inspections to get the panels actually turned on (permit to operate). The main lesson is that you have to be proactive in order to have everything go smooth. I had some conflicts between my panel install and my planned generator install, which caused confusion on both ends and some lack of experience on how to deal with more complex situations. Overall, we were able to get everything working, but as with every project, you have to be proactive or it will take longer and your project may not go as smooth as you'd like. -
Affordable Solar's install team and pre-install communication were great, but I’ve been disappointed by their design and engineering process (solar system). I was never consulted about panel placement, and no drone scan, shade analysis, or site visit were conducted before installation (an engineered shade report was provided months later). Generally speaking, the system is functioning well, however one array was placed in an area almost totally covered by trees for a large portion of the day and significantly underperforms — even on sunny days. I am not a solar expert, but even I could have told them the panels in question would underperform if placed as they are now (under huge shady trees - it's just common sense! This could have been avoided by reaching out to me and seeking real-world anecdotal information from this homeowner. Post-install, my repeated attempts to raise concerns over the past three months (through text, phone, and email) have gone largely ignored. I expected better accountability, collaboration, and a firm understanding of solar design best practices. Homeowners: insist on being included in the design phase and ensure that a site analysis and/or drone scan are conducted. Request a full shading analysis and insist that alternative panel placement options are provided before approving a final layout.

We've had their panels installed since July of 2023. Two of our panels stopped working in October 2023. Multiple calls and requests later, we have replacement parts but no one to install them. They promised some remote reset would fix it. Nope. Just want to get all my panels working and can't get anyone to respond.

We recently hired these gentleman to do a remove and replace job in Houston, TX. Not only did they give us a great quote, they were super informative, communicated the entire job and were helpful with any questions I had. I appreciate Justin M. a lot, he was great the entire way through and kept me up to date as well for each step.
If you need a Solar Company, these are the guys!!! -
Horribly unprofessional outfit. The point of contact during the sales process changed multiple times (maybe they were having staffing issues?). Unlike other companies who provided me with a formal bid and a meaningful conversation, I spoke with a representative for 5 minutes who told me to call him if I had any questions. This sales team is confused, and unprofessional. To add insult to injury, their auto-dialer has called me about 100 times. If their sales group is this awful - what would it be like to be rely on them for the next 20 years?

The salesman for Affordable Solar Roof & Air, named Erik Olsen is the greatest! He was very professional, well spoken, highly knowledgeable about Solar panels, installation process, impact on environment (green), and tax incentive. I highly recommend using Affordable Solar specially Erik Olsen. Happy New Year!

I purchased solar panels from them last July. They were installed in late August. Several panels were installed in wrong location. This was corrected. The wiring in my breaker box was not correct and had to have someone come fix it because several strands of the power cable were cut out at the connector. I had the panels insured on my previous policy due to a previous company submitting for a WPI-8 certification. I live in an area, Brazoria County, where it is required to be able to insure them. My insurance is up for renewal, which expires in 8 days, and I find out I can not insure my $64k investment. It took 3 days to get ahold of someone in the office to speak to. After finally speaking with the office manager (Brittany), I was told it would be taken care of and they would get the certificate. She told me it would be started on Monday. Fast forward to Friday, a week later, and the permit person in the office tells me that she can send me the plans and photos and the number of an engineering firm to get it done, that it is my problem now. They say because i don't live in an area where a permit is required for the work that the wind storm certificate was not done and is not their problem. This is regardless of the insurance requirements. I have obtained the number for the district manager and one of the owners. Neither have returned my calls or texts. If I could go back I would have stayed with the first company who understood the requirements for my area. Update: they have agreed to cover half the cost of the inspection and certification to be complaint with Texas Windstorm Requirements.

Been looking at Solar options for over 4 years now. After about 6 or 7 quotes and different companies I finally made the decision to purchase. Jeremy was my sales representative. He was always available to answer any questions, even on the weekends. Very professional, knowledgeable and delivered as promise. The technicians were very good and also helped with any questions or concerns. Affordable Solar made the process extremely easy and the job was completed a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. They did everything including dealing with the HOA, all I had to do is sit back and relax. Best price and service, it was a no brainer for me to buy from Affordable Solar roof & Air.

I worked with Matthew and team from affordable solar and they were great from start to finish. They even upgraded my panels at no cost because the ones I ordered went to back order. Excellent communication from their sales rep to installers to electrician to management. I give them my highest recommendation for a quality solar system.
-
Update: well as soon as I got it up there it took 2 months to turn it on because they didn't do something right with the county permit office. Now I found out they over charged me over $16k, I guess for their own pockets... And most of them flew the coop.
Moral of the story, check with the BBB before you buy.
But, I still like my solar. I have very seldom had to pay a light bill. All I pay for is the installation and the panels
Solar is connected. I am so thrilled to start producing my own electricity. All the guys that are with Affordable Solar are fantastic. From the sales Mario, to the installation, to the turning on Carlos, super great people. They are all so helpful and they really do a great job. If you have any questions I can answer just tell them to give you my number and I will talk with you. They have done that several times. -
STAY AWAY!! This is for the Houston (Tomball) location. These are the most unprofessional and unorganized people to work with. First, they showed up on the wrong day to replace our roof. I was not even home. Madison said she would tell the workers to stop and they would be back on the correct date. I told her if they could find a way to complete the repair (3 story home) without entering to bring up supplies as discussed then they could continue. I heard nothing back so thought they had left since that was the last communication and only found out they were on my roof when I came home from work to see them there. They also replaced the flooring of a balcony which was done completely wrong so they can back and redid it (again when I was not home) and took side panels off my house and the guard rail without informing me they would be removed. They then did a terrible job replacing them, did not seal it correctly and painted my house and trim with the WRONG colors. Then they tried to charge for the paint/supplies and weren’t going to leave the leftover paint! The area leaked again and when I called them they had someone come put a line of caulking on and said they would be back. When the next person came back he said he now can’t see where the leak was bc of the caulking. They tried to blame an area of our door that has some erosion (not even above the leaks) and on our ac ducts (there’s no ducts in the floor of the second level below a balcony and we just had brand new ac and duct work done without any issues) for the leaks even though the leaks are getting bigger in the original areas with the addition of a few new spots under the balcony directly since the repair. The operations manager , Justin, never showed up to walk the roof as promised after it was finished, never called back and Madison uses words like “bro” and “my bad” when dealing with issues. Go spend a little more somewhere else and stay away from this nightmare!
-
Worked with Justin, made everything easy to coordinate and was very communicative throughout the entire thing. Thank you Justin for making it effortless!

The install Team is awesome...but unfortunately that is the best thing I can say. If you want to be promised and sold one solutions and not have that delivered, that they can do. The worst part is I have made 1-2 attempts per week to get someone from thier team to contact me to make it right. No return calls, no answer to questions, the Sales Rep is no longer with the company and not allowed to speak to me. The Project Manager will answer calls, but he can not rectify the issue. If you use this company, make sure you have numbers for everyone on the front side and prepare to be ignored when they over promise and under deliver. Make sure you get contract and designs on the first visit....I am still waiting on all my documentation.
Time Cycle. Bought from Affordable Solar in October 2024 after another Solar Company tried to deliver wrong panels and switch the setup (Ues I expressed my concern with going Solar to this company after that experience, I was too trusting.) Panels were installed in April 2025. Took till last week May 2025 to be able to go live. System has not performed as guaranteed.
If the company would reply and work with me I would have given a better rating.
And be prepared to have holes left in your brand new Hardy on your Brand New Home.
