I called today and was able to reach Brady. I told him it was my mother in laws house but she had my granddaughter there and the ac had quit working and it was 88° inside the house. I asked if he had any suggestions on what I could look for after describing the issue and he walked me through location and amperage of fuse and also the thermostat and how to diagnose a short. He did not want to leave the house that hot with a child and thanks to Brady I was able to find the problem with his guidance and help and the house is now on its way to cooling down. I have delt with a lot of heating and a.c. people and most are there for the business and making a dollar only. I can honestly say I did not feel that way at all with Brady. He cared and was so patient and helpful in getting the issue repaired I will now be reaching out to them with all of our property management needs with heating and a.c. along with my personal and family home issues. Thanks again Brady you made this a much better long holiday weekend.

Dave came out and fixed our A/C. He was the nicest guy and gave us excellent customer service. He called us in the morning to let us know a time frame of when he would be over then called us 20 minutes before he came. He is very knowledgeable, kept his work area clean and gave us great tips to keep our heating and air conditioning in tip top shape! We really appreciated everything he had to offer and will use him in the future!

Had a wonderful experience with Bill's Comfort Systems! Katy Higgins was on the ball fast, efficient and super responsive. The technician Brett, communicated about his arrival super clearly and diagnosed and fixed the problem in no time at a great price. Will be calling them again (I just hope I will not have the need soon 😀)

Bills Comfort Systems is absolutely the best! Westley Jewett has been my service tech ever time I needed something. He is amazing! He works fast, professionally and is extremely knowledgeable. I’m always 100% satisfied.

They replaced a 50+ year old home made boiler heating system with an energy efficient furnace and a/c, along with humidifier and special filter. They had to install the duct system, as the old one was unusable, even though most of the basement was finished. We were amazed at how they could install the new ducts without cutting into the ceiling (fortunately, the hallways were drop ceilings). Bill and Kevin were extremely efficient, cleaned up after themselves and did a wonderful job. We are delighted how the system is working as the heating season is starting.

I wouldn't recommend Bill's Comfort Systems to anyone. We purchased an air conditioner and furnace from them in 2010. The air conditioner has been leaking freon ever since we bought the unit. We've had to have Bill's Comfort Systems come out twice (in 2012 and in 2014) and they added freon both times. The second time they came out, they charged a $200+ service fee for a unit that was less that 5 years old! The receptionist was incredibly rude, argumentative, and didn't even offer any solutions to remedy the situation when I called. Now, in 2016, we are having the same problem, but I will call another company because I'd rather pay someone who will actually stand behind their work and fix the problem.

Had a new water heater and ac/furnace put in a couple years ago. They did a great job then and I was happy with the with the work. Everything had been working great up until a few weeks ago when we found out the water heater stopped working. Contacted bills comfort systems in the morning. Found out it was covered by warranty. So, we had a new water heater by the end of the day. Great people and great customer service! We will continue to refer our friends and neighbors when they need it. Thanks Marcus!

This company rocks! A friend recommended Bill's Comfort Systems. I priced them and others and their price was the best of four companies. They worked with me on providing the best install for the air conditioner. They explored many options with me and took the time to resolve all my concerns and questions. They were patient and worked through delays caused by the other contractors' working on my house. Bill's know what they are doing.

The Anatomy of a Heist, w/ Receipts

Want to know how Bill’s fleeces desperate & unsuspecting customers? I'll dissect it for you.

To be fair, this may be common industry practice among many of these guys - wildly dishonest. Nonetheless, this is how it works, in all its gory detail:

Our furnace went out. Bill’s technicians showed up & pronounced the issue to be a failed induction motor. The technician shook his head that this was going to be expensive. So expensive it just didn’t justify replacing it & really what we needed was a new furnace. I asked for numbers. He went out of earshot & called home office & came back with a number: $2,000 to replace the motor & $5,000 for a new furnace. He fished to replace the A/C unit as well.

I pushed back. He shook his head, this was all the manufacturer’s fault: motors were unnecessarily expensive & a fact of life of high-end furnaces & mfg had us over a barrel. He felt bad but there was nothing he could do. Yada yada. All a big show.

I asked for an estimate. The estimate was very vague: ~$1900 for the part & ~$100 for installation & no details on the part. Wary of the pricing I asked why the part number wasn’t in the estimate. The tech said there was no part # & only the manufacturer had the part #, all false. I asked for some model ID so I could check pricing. This frustrated him but he snapped some pics of the furnace model number and IDs unrelated to the motor to satisfy me.

For the record, the induction motor assembly does have a part # & it was easy to see: a big pasted sticker on the unit - hard to miss. He just didn’t want me to know the part #.

I sent them on their way.

After a quick search online I identified the required part. Industry pricing for it was $815. Expensive, but not $1,900. Many used/refurbished units were also available online for $300-$500, which may have made sense given my furnace’s age.

I ordered a new assembly for $800 & got it two days later.

I thought maybe the part install required skill & considered calling a tech to do it, but a friend in the industry assured me: this was dead easy to install.

Sure enough. Found a YouTube video. Once I oriented myself, it took an hour. Totally modular & plug & play.

I’m the least handy person on the planet. I’d rather have somebody else assemble things from ikea. This motor was not hard to replace. A tech who knew what they were doing could do this whole job in 15-30 min.

So basically this was a job that entailed a part worth somewhere $300-800 & 30 minutes of work. They wanted $2000.

(For older furnaces like mine, used & refurbished parts are an entirely viable route, & any reasonable company that is looking out for their customers should offer these kinds of parts as an option, especially given how easy they are to swap out.)

    Was $2000 fair?

I get techs need to live, but the Bill’s tech, even on a good day, aren’t making more than $50/hr. If you generously pay Boss Man another $50/hr. Trip charge of $100 = $200 in labor/travel. Unit cost + tax on the unit + $100 upsell - call it $1000 for the motor assembly unit. All in, a fair price for this job, that still pays taxes & Boss Man & techs very well & margins on the unit, is $1200.

(This is for a new motor that wasn’t really justified - really should be a $600 job with a refurbished motor.)

    Instead, they charge $2000.

The difference is the price of their integrity. Smashing $800-$1400 out of every house they hit, over & above the level where they are already handsomely compensated, is just plain exploitation.

The problem is it’s just too good a money. They do it all day every day.

There’s an information asymmetry. They know what you don’t know. You’re worried & want to be safe. They take advantage of that & exploit your fear. You usually are desperate because it’s cold & your family’s freezing & they’re your fastest option to warmth. They exploit that.

Given what I experienced, I wouldn’t let these guys in my house again, much less entrust them with the safety of my family.

We have used Bills Comfort Systems for years. Their techs are knowledgeable and honest. They give great service and economical recommendations. They've now replaced our furnace, and a/c and our house is toasty in the winter and cool in the summer. If you are in the market for a new furnace or a/c, or need repairs done, I would highly recommend Bill's Comfort Systems. They are hands down the BEST around.

I am very happy with my experience with Bill‘s Comfort Systems. Their technician, Ethan, came out just two days after I called for service. Ethan was very pleasant and very knowledgeable with my superior fireplace. He got it up and running quickly and I was very pleased with what they charged for their service. I would highly recommend Bill’s Comfort Stems and Ethan to anyone needing services.

What a great Experience to be a customer of Bill's Comfort Systems. I'm preparing to finally finish my basement. When my home was built in the early 80's, the builders put my furnace at the end of the house instead of centrally located. I needed a new system, and to have the entire system relocated with new duct work. I also wanted a new wood burning fireplace, and this was something that Bill's offers as well. I received 5 separate bids, and overall Bill's comfort system was definitely the way to go. Marcus was very helpful and great to work with. He was not pushy, and did not try to up sell me something that was not in my best interest. He was very informative, and explained exactly what needed to be done. The crews were very professional and courteous, and had no problem with me hanging around watching them work and asking questions. (I'm always interested in learning about other trades.) I highly recommend Bill's Comfort System to anyone looking for a new HVAC system or fireplace.

Bills Comfort Systems is an absolutely amazing company to work with! After having a great experience with them in the winter, I knew exactly who to call when our A/C unit was not keeping up with the recent high temperatures! They sent a tech out to take a look, and I appreciated that they presented options of repairing or replacing with no pressure. We decided to replace (since our unit was quite old) and from the office staff, to the sales staff, to the installers it all went seamlessly! They were courteous, professional and informative. We are extremely happy with our new system and we will continue to refer them to family and friends! Thank you again!

Miguel did a full system for my uncle on the 21st of this month and he did such a great job that he asked me to help him write a review about it. He came in and was very courteous and answered every single question we had. It got to the point where he thought he was annoying the installer but Miguel assured us it was fine. When he was finished he went over the job with us and again answered all our questions.

I filed a warranty request through my builder (one of many) to have my fireplace looked at because it was not staying lit. Bill's Comfort Systems had Nick come to assess the problem. It ended up being the thermocoupler, but while Nick was here he did a full overhaul of the fireplace (cleaned the glass, touched up some of the paint, vacuumed it out). The fireplace looks and works like it is band new again. After having several negative experiences with other contractors for other warranty issues, it was refreshing to work with someone who cares about their work and their customers.

Brenden was helpful to assess the wiring of my fireplace to make sure it was running properly before the cold winter starts

Air Design has been my go-to for my heating and cooling needs for years with different homes. When I bought my current home, the AC wasn’t working right and we discovered that the AC unit installed wasn’t correct for the size of my home. I worked with Air Design (thank you Dan!) on getting an appropriate unit installed and it’s made all the difference. My favorite service offered is the bi-annual maintenance plan. I like to be proactive rather than reactive with home related costs. Each spring and fall Lance calls to set up a date and time for Air Design reps to check out the AC and furnace to ensure that everything is working properly and they fix anything needed as well. If I have an issue between those times, they also come. Kudos to Jordan, the service tech who regularly comes for this maintenance. He always explains what he is doing, and, what is needed, if anything, including change out the filters to keep everything in working order. Jordan provides excellent service and represents Air Design well. Thank you for being a trusted vendor.

First time experience with Air Design. I had a recommendation from a good friend of mine and so I gave them a try. The technician that came out was Hunter and he diagnosed the issue quickly and resolved the problem. He was very pleasant and competent. It was a very positive experience. I definitely will use them again.

These guys are fantastic! I had used these guys for years in my commercial property with nothing but courteous and professional service. After 28 years our HVAC system in our home needed to be replaced. There was no question for me. I spoke with Russ (great guy) who gave me a very honest quote for the whole system. He stayed in contact with me the entire way through. On the day of install Levi and Joe arrived right on time and got straight to work. They treated our home as though it was their own. Educated me along the way with what they were doing. They had the old system removed, and the new system installed both inside and outside within about 3 hours. When you choose to allow the Air Design group to provide you with the professional service I have grown to take for granted you will not be disappointed. Thanks again to the entire crew!

I have been an Air Design customer for 18 years. The technicians have always been courteous and competent. When we have had problems, they have come quickly and solved our problems. I highly recommend them! Recently Jordan and Gage installed a new furnace and air conditioner. The worked efficiently and courteously, and explained everything to me with clarity. They did a great job.

Great company to work with. They do quality work at a good price and are always very communicative. Especially like working with Sean who's come to service my system several times after the initial install.
