I called the (presumed?) owner on Friday afternoon, August 6, 2021 to fulfill my leasing obligation to the apartment complex to have the small apartment’s carpet cleaned prior to my move-out on the following Monday. After a frustrating experience of intelligibility and finally being able to comprehend the employee—her speech was not intelligible to me in either English or Spanish, and I am fluent in both—I was relieved to be able to schedule the appointment for the following morning at 10 A.M. I let the charge go zero on my iPhone, and started to recharge at about 9:20 the following morning, only to receive a text that the technician would be arriving at 9:30. I was kind of put off by this but did not say anything other than to text back that I would be able to accommodate them at 9:45 (trying to be accommodating and meet them half way). She said ok. At 9:38 the technician pulled up and knocked on my door—I reiterated “7 minutes. At PRECISELY 9:45 I let him in. I returned to my phone not two minutes later to find a text from (The Boss?) —TIMED AT 9:44), saying that their company had an appointment booked at TEN O’CLOCK—what had been verbally agreed to as MY appointment time—and insinuating that they would put me on the back burner for “later” because they had obviously and intentionally double booked. I found that to be incredibly unprofessional but waited to make a big issue of it until the “technician” spent a whopping 18 minutes in steam cleaning and charged me the $100 (Yes, it was mutually agreed to beforehand, but the lack of professionalism COMBINED with the surprisingly extortionate resulting hourly rate did not sit well with me). When I called (“The Boss”?) several times, there was no answer, and when I texted my extreme irritation that they expected me to be there 30 minutes early and threatened to leave me hanging, there also was no response. But when I texted, “100 bucks for an 18 minute steam cleaning job, that’s quite a profit,” I got a smart-aleck “thumbs-up” emoji response, as if to actually MOCK me.

I’ve dealt with thousands of merchants in my 31 years of adulthood, in 29 states and 53 countries; the smug and indifferent attitude and stupefyingly unprofessional service—to the point of actually threatening to break a verbal agreement that I recorded on my phone and could have used in a court of law—well; this sh*tshow ranks in my bottom five of a lifetime.
